Chap 29 - The Confession

Kaizo had begun to grow more comfortable using his aura energy, incorporating it casually during Yumi’s training sessions. Both Yumi and Infinity noticed — it had been a while since they’d seen that mysterious power since the Apex Circuit, and its return carried a quiet intensity.

Yumi herself had reached the Advanced Stage of Kensei, completing the final tier of Zenshin mastery. At this point, she wasn’t just learning — she was refining everything Kaizo had taught her. Her everyday spars with Kaizo continued to polish the edges of what she’d become during this short summer.

Then, during one of those sparring sessions, something strange happened.

Yumi lunged forward, attempting to execute a clean Kensei punch — but as her fist cut the air, a faint dark-purple energy flickered from her knuckles. It was brief… yet clear enough for both her and Kaizo to freeze mid-motion.

  Kaizo (blinking): “That… looked like—”

  Yumi (uneasy): “Aura?”

Infinity (sighing dramatically): “Well. I suppose now’s as good a time as any to come clean.”

Kaizo (confused): “What do you mean?”

They sat down under the tree canopy, curiosity thick in the air.

Infinity (tilting his head): “You two remember the day we first met? When I, uh… bounced around the house and, accidentally, made you two—”

Yumi (bright red, panicking): “D-Don’t say it!”

Kaizo (calmly): “I couldn’t forget even if I wanted to.”

  Yumi (confused): “Why’s that?”

Kaizo: “I have a perfect memory.”

Infinity (grinning): “Oh yeah, I forgot!”

  Kaizo (deadpan): “How?”

[Author’s Intervention: Because Infinity’s personality is based off of Kaizo’s, he also has a perfect memory.]

That only made her redder — and Infinity cracked up laughing.

Infinity (between chuckles): “Right, well… When that little incident happened, Kaizo and I weren’t fully bonded yet. Which means there’s a teeny, tiny, bitsy chance that I might’ve… accidentally transferred some of his DNA into Yumi.”

The silence that followed could’ve stopped time itself.

  Yumi (flatly): “…You what?”

Infinity (coughing): “I said tiny chance. Don’t look at me like that! I didn’t actually think it would happen!”

Kaizo (rubbing the bridge of his nose): “Infinity, are you telling me she has part of my DNA?”

Infinity (defensive): “Only a little! But yeah — that would explain the aura reaction.”

Kaizo (to the audience): [“What a stupid fucking idea from the author… I like it.”]

Kaizo (through the IF link): “Can we confirm it?”

Infinity hopped down and placed a paw on Yumi’s stomach. His eyes glowed faintly. After a moment, he looked up.

Infinity (confirming): “Confirmed. It’s integrated — her body already accepted it as her own. (whispering) It’s also a lot more than I thought…”

  Kaizo (hearing him): “What?”

Infinity (pretending he didn’t hear him): “What?”

Kaizo (intrigued): “Let me test something.”

He gently placed a hand near where Infinity had checked and began adjusting the energy flow within her body — trying to stimulate her cells the same way he did with his Regen Protocol.

A faint pulse of energy spread outward. Yumi flinched slightly, but the sensation quickly passed.

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

After a few moments, Kaizo pulled back.

Kaizo (analyzing): “Her regeneration's there…but not quite on my level. Still, that means I can influence her DNA, just not rewrite it completely.”

Infinity (grinning): “So basically, Yumi’s now, like… 40% percent Kaizo?”

Yumi (groaning, covering her face): “Don’t make it sound weird.”

Kaizo (smirking): “Relax, Grace. If anything, it just means you’ve got stronger potential now.”

Infinity (proudly, crossing paws): “See? Accidental science for the win!”

  [Forest Clearing – Late Afternoon]

Kaizo and Yumi are standing apart, faint sunlight filtering through the trees. A thin shimmer of dark-purple energy flickers over Yumi’s hand but fades instantly. This has been happening since they had discovered she could use it.

Yumi (frowning): “Ugh. It keeps disappearing!”

Kaizo (calmly): “Damn, that sucks… Imagine having a once in a lifetime power and not being able to utilize it.”

Yumi (pouting): “Shut up! Can you be helpful instead of sarcastic?”

Kaizo (crosses arms): “When I use mine, it reacts to my intentions—and my will. The more I push my focus on it, the more it surrounds me. Why don’t you try that?”

Yumi (trying again, small spark flickers and dies): “…See? It hates me.”

  Kaizo (smirks): “Damn, that’s unfortunate.”

Yumi (groans, sitting back): “You-... Ah, forget it. I’m gonna go do archery again, you imbecile.”

Kaizo watches her flop back dramatically on the grass. He chuckles quietly, then goes back to lying down himself.

Kaizo (thinking): “You do you, Yumi…”

  [Forest Edge – Later]

Yumi, bow slung over her shoulder, walks quietly through the trees until she finds a clear patch of sunlight. She takes a deep breath.

Yumi (softly): “Alright, Dad… let’s go hunt.”

She goes through her usual warm-up—feet planted, shoulders loose, breathing steady. She’s been doing this quite frequently during her breaks after sparring with Kaizo, whenever she just needed to relax. Even before the training session with him or before she met him, this was her best way of having fun, but most importantly, remembering her dad. Normally, before firing her wooden bow, she imagines the shot first — the arc, the tension, the release. It was a great way of practicing her shooting motion.

  But this time, something responds.

A quiet hum fills the air as dark-purple and black energy gathers around her hands.

Yumi (focused, unaware): “…Nock… draw… release—”

An ethereal dark purple bow materializes, sleek and glowing faintly, and a matching arrow forms from the same swirling light. She releases.

The shot cuts through the air—silently, quickly and visually excellent.

A soft thunk echoes as it strikes the tree dead center. Ripples of violet light radiate out in perfect circles.

Yumi blinks, lowering her hand—still holding the glowing energy bow.

  Yumi (stunned): “…What the…”

She looks at her hands, then at the tree, then back again.

  Yumi (screaming, excited): “KAAAIIZOOOOO!!!”

[Moments Later – Back at Camp]

Kaizo, laying down on a rock, hears her voice echoing through the forest.

Kaizo (half-sitting up): “…She either found a bear or figured it out.”

Before he can react further, Yumi bursts out of the forest, sprinting full speed—eyes bright, hair wild.

Kaizo (deadpan, to us): [“I’m guessing it’s the second one—”[

She nearly tackles him as she stops, practically vibrating with excitement.

Yumi (grinning ear to ear): “You—you HAVE to see this! Right now! Come on!”

Kaizo lets her drag him back toward the clearing. A few seconds later, she stands ready, hands glowing faintly again.

  Yumi (concentrating): “Alright. Watch.”

Her bow forms again—dark-purple light humming through the air.

Kaizo watches closely as she draws the energy arrow and fires—another perfect bullseye.

Kaizo (low whistle): “…Well, I’ll be damned.”

Yumi (beaming): “I did it! I actually did it!”

Kaizo (smiling faintly): “Wow… that’s unique.”

Yumi (tilts head): “What do you mean?”

Kaizo: “It’s like your aura becomes something that suits you more effectively.”

Yumi’s bow flickers briefly before vanishing. She looks at her hands again, still glowing faintly.

Yumi (softly): “So… this is my aura now.”

Kaizo (grinning): “Yeah. Your own version of it, basically.”

Yumi (proud): “What if I called it something like an “Aura” Bow?”

Kaizo (leans back): “That’s the stupid shit I’ve ever heard.”

Yumi (smirks): “Isn’t that a little hypocritical? You were the one who called yours “Aura”, by the way.”

  Kaizo: “Touche.”

Kaizo chuckles, and in that moment, streaks of violet and black energy drifting through the canopy as the excitement and adventures between our two protagonists would only become better and better.
