Chapter 3: Underdog (part3)

  Narration;

Survivors called it (THE BLACK GENESIS), humanities worst nightmare came true, the day humanity’s story burned and something unrecognisable took its place.

The skies tore open with storms of fire and radiation so fierce it didn’t just scourge the earth– it erased reason itself. Oceans boiled, cities fell to dust. Of every living thing, forty percent perished in days…and those that survived wished they hadn’t!!

As from the ashes of the earth the world birthed nightmares never seen before.

Animals twisted into horrors, some the size of skyscrapers others far larger or smaller. Not only that but the forest grew carnivorous as well swallowing men whole, this turned the world into hell on earth. Entire nations were abandoned after they were lost to the radiation.

But the black genesis did more than just destroy.

it awakened something forgotten but never lost, something buried beneath human nature– the primal law of survival. Fear and death forced humanity to its brink forcing them to adapt, this process was called the (overdrive) period. A near death stage where humans evolved into one of four new homo branches.

  Homo balloter:(warrior race)

  Homo chimera:(the flesh born mutants)

  Homo arcanus:(wielders of arcane forces).

  Homo Deus:(the Demi-god).

The overdrive period at first took years before one awoke into one of the four branches, but as time went by…the time period was significantly reduced to 6 months after the babies birth.

  And yet…not all have evolved.

one in a million were born unchanged, just regular humans, only difference now was that they had gained resistance to the radiation that should’ve killed them. The only way to recognise such people were there emerald golden eyes.

but even among them, ash was quite literally different than any human being on earth. From the moment he was born Ash’s (overdrive) never stopped.

The crucial 6-month period where children either manifested there gift and awakened or were deemed powerless. Ash’s never stopped.

  It kept going.

  and going.

  and going.

Not just months but a whole 17 years of his life, if wasn’t an extended timer it was a storm.

A monstrous mutation roaring inside him– 100 times faster, stronger and more focused than any ever recorded. But nobody knew, not even ash himself was fully aware, he just knew he was different.

To the world he’s just a crazy teenager who somehow found his way to the top of an underground fighting system, with an unnatural grit and will power, they said he stumbled his way to the top.

But truth be told, those who saw ash fight or fought with him know very well what ash is capable of especially when his pushed to the wall. At deaths door, that’s when his overdrive kicks in and takes control.

  His body becomes a weapon.

In those final moments,Pain receptors shut down, frontal lobe responsible for reasoning switches off, blood flow adapts instantly meaning he can slow down to conserve oxygen and accelerate to feed his muscles with raw furry, adrenaline floods his system, unrestricted and unfiltered.

there is no thought of survival only instinct to kill before he gets killed.

He becomes a living machine– precise, brutal and unrelenting.

Even when his bones snap, muscles tear, tendons rip.

He keeps on going, he doesn’t stop, he can not stop. Until his opponent is dead.

  Aftermath;

As the crowd cheered and ash laid beneath a pool of blood…his body broken yet his face showed a glimpse of peace.

  Narration (cont’d).

this is the cost of his (overdrive).

once the objective is met and once the opponent is slain, ash’s body crushes.

every system collapses as he drops into a seven day coma, where his (overdrive) shifts from combat mode to regeneration mode.

It is not magic nor an ability, it’s a biological miracle.

No one knows how his body heals, no the doctors, not the scientists, not even the 12 families who control the world.

in there eyes ash is just a crazy teenager with golden eyes, a mark of the powerless.

To add ignorance to arrogance, they’re also unaware that every time ash falls into that seven day coma, he doesn’t just heal, he adapts or more like his body adapts…denser bones, stronger muscle fibres, tougher tendons, even his reaction speed increases.

And soon enough he won’t be human anymore.

scene cuts to right after the fight, as the crowd roared ash’s name as the underdog got wheeled out of the ring, high above the crowd, in the VIP lounge, sealed off by layers of soundproof glass and luxury, sat a man, alone in the shadows, over looking ash from far above.

The VIP lounge was drenched in dim, ambient lighting. Neon veins pulsed through the ceiling like blood vessels. Designed for the rich, the untouchable, the inhuman.

The man sat comfortably, legs crossed, twirling a half-full glass of deep red wine, its shifting surface catching the low light like a liquid rubies.

Ash’s final moments played across a silent monitor– Ryker’s body limp and shattered, ash collapsing, crowd roaring in delayed ecstasy.

the man didn’t cheer. He simply smiled.

“Interesting…so this the so called super rookie who broke our one golden rule.’’ He murmured, his voice deep, velvety and calm.

He leaned forward placing his glass delicately upon a stack of documents, each file marked with ash’s name and photo, many where marked (CLASSIFIED) or (RESTRICTED ACCESS).

“I came to witness his penalty by death but who knew I’d witness something so…Beautiful’’ he said wistfully.

  then–

  A presence.

From the shadows behind him, a figure emerged, clocked in black from head to toe, like a living shadow. The figure leaned in and whispered into the man’s ear, voice inaudible to anyone.

  Man gave a small nod.

“As I thought…it was a matter of when since from the start…’’ he stood up slowly his massive stature overshadowed the bit of light radiating from the glass window.

“Well then…I’ve seen enough…’’ he strode past the figure in black and instantly two more figures appeared on both his sides, one stepped in and draped a pristine white coat over him, the other lit his cigar.

the flames danced briefly in the reflection of his cold calculating eyes.

he took a drag before exhaling slowly, smoke curling around his face like phantom before turning his gaze back at ash’s face on the paused monitor. He grinned

“Ash was it?…if fate allows it…we shall meet again…’’

he turned and walked out of the exit. As he passed down the corridor, dozens of personnel bowed in reverence. None daring to gaze up on him.

among them was none other than the manger of sector-7.

  He paused next to him…

“The boy proved himself…to me at least…now three more remain…I shall see you at the summit…’’ The man said before walking off into the light.

the man didn’t look back, he didn’t need to…the pieces had begun to move.

  end of chapter 3.
