Henrik did not understand much about medieval battle.
No, to be more accurate, he did not understand at all about battle strategy of the ancient times
It is not like he studies battle strategy and he is not from the army and even though he knows how to shoot guns, that is from a superficial understanding.
Not to mention, even if he did study strategy, he clearly did not study ancient battle strategies and medieval battle strategies.
He watches some documentary on ancient Rome and ancient Egypt and watch some reenactment battle in those documentaries, but it is not like he understands much about strategizing battle
He did not know how to calculate how much is needed to supply battle lines, where the supply centre for an army should be situated at, how to make camps and all of this.
And right now, he is not even a captain or anyone of importance. Not to mention if this is the medieval era, common person like him has no chance of rising through the ranks.
Social mobility in the medieval era is not robust.
One of his uncles from his mother side brought him to a ranch once and teach him how to use a gun
But even then, he had forgotten many of it since living in Europe.
However, in a fight like this, he knows that there must be time for both sides to retreat. It is not like they would fight day and night without stopping.
After all, they are all humans.
Henrik targets to survive today.
Until night at least. Even if he died later, if he could be resurrected once again, he would surely know better how to survive
So, he must not exhaust all of his stamina.
And instead, Henrik is dodging the attack.
Sometimes, he rolls to the left, sometimes he takes a sidestep to the right, sometimes he just moves his body slightly to one of the directions achieving the effect of dodging every attack
Of course, in the earlier tries, this kind of method is dangerous
He would be dead by now.
But now, after nine tries, even though he dares not say he could dodge every attack, he could guess.
And with the squire hand being hurt, it is even easier. And the more desperate the squire to kill him, the more predictable his moves are.
Henrik is watching and waiting. The sword edges passing him and he dodges it and then he smiles.
“Now!” the sword in his hand moves and there is a sound of flesh being cut
He stepped inside and then without hesitation, he moves his hand, smashed his pommel into the squire jaw.
Argh!
In that moment Henrik sweep the squire legs. It is a move he remembers in a video clip he saw in some social media
He knows it would work.
He just never thought it would work this well.
In that breath of a few moment, Henrik had broken that person jaw, swept his feet and made the squire stumble and fall into the mud.
“It’s game over”
this is the same kind of situation of game over for him. The moment he stumbles and fall, and there is an enemy standing over him, there is no help
You could not escape this.
The sword lays helplessly beside the squire.
The squire finger is twitching. He had used all of his strength and now as adrenaline seems to be rushing out from his body, there is only extreme lethargy.

Henrik only look at the squire.
“I think I would see you again. Though, next time, this fight would become even faster. I know your moves now. I know your temperament. Next time…..next time, it would be even faster.” He thought to himself.
Henrik stood over him, his sword pointed toward the squire.
At first he hated this person.
But now, there is just this feeling o mixed accomplishment.
Like he had overcome a wall. And there is also relief. But also, a mix of fear. After this……he would walk a different path than before
An unknown path. And unknown path is always scary
Henrik is panting right now. In the distance, some of the peasant had finished their fights and some of the noble army also finished their fights.
Henrik simply looks at him and for the first time, he won.
And he did not have the leisure to trade conversation like “What is your last word?”
Henrik did not wait and slash the sword on the squire neck.
The blood spurted out from the wound on the neck and the squire look at him with undisguised anger.
Even as he is bleeding to death, his eyes are open looking at him like he had a great dissatisfaction at him.
Henrik understood that glance. He could not accept it. He could not believe it. He feels that it is unfair.
“Well, welcome to my world” Henrik thought to himself.
There is no such dramatic scene like he screams like in those historical dramas he had seen
Death is just like this.
It is nothing special. Not like the death of those nobles. Their death would be a stage and their words recorded and embellished by later generations.
For people like him and for people like this quire, they are just common people, and they are just numbers in the ruler’s military report.
Henrik himself did not have any attachment to this army, and he did not have much hatred to this squire.
After all, how could you hate someone you don’t know. Even if this person kills him nine times, he did not have much hatred
Maybe because there is no emotional attachment and entanglement, he could not hate this person
He is just relieved that he survives
The blood spurted out without stopping, the red blood drenching the mud darker, the body falls down, a word is about to utter but the only sound that came out is the sound of scraping of the throat
The squire looks at Henrik, look with that desire to kill but even that desire fades away, the fire of life extinguished and as the blood keep shooting out, the squire dies
His body twitches but the soul has expired.
Henrik sighed.
The obstacle to his survival has been removed, the death door that had stopped him for so long has been opened
But the war continues
..
“Something changed” this is the feeling that Henrik feels
Henrik was shocked
Not because he saw how the squire died, or that he had killed a person.
At first, he was shocked.
After all, the bloody death in the battlefield is not really the same as one would expect from television shows or documentary.
This is real death.
There are all kinds of organ sprawled around the area
There are limbs, there is brain matter, and then there is these sounds that make you feel uneasy, anxious and scared
There are tragic screams and all kinds of manners of death that would make you have nightmare for years
In his first few deaths, this battlefield looks more like a scenery of hell. Just that oppressive atmosphere alone made him feel weak in the knees.
Henrik before he appears in this world, while there are fights and there is some scuffle, he himself was not born in a generation of war.
There is relative peace in his time. There is still war but that is just something he never experienced
The first few times, just seeing the death and the manner of their death make his stomach feel queasy
But something else happens after he killed the squire.
He could feel his energy returning.
Before, he was panting.
He was already out of breath.
Dodging left and right, fighting and bracing, deflecting and avoiding, jumping and rolling, all of these actions already push him through the limit.
One must remember that he is a kid.
He already pushes his body to the limit and if this was a normal task, he would already collapse on the ground because of the exhaustion
But the adrenaline keeps pumping.
Every strike and every movement could be his last.
And someone who is being pumped by this adrenaline is like being injected with drug.
You could fight beyond the limit of your normal strength.
And that is what Henrik had done. He had used all of his energy just to win this battle. It is basically a miracle.
After all, on one side you have a trained squire.
He might not be as well trained as a knight, but he was certainly trained
he even has armours on his body, so he has some wealth.
Wealth and status, means he also have training. And compared it to Henrik. Suspected to be a peasant, maybe work in the farm or in a ranch
Not a blacksmith son judging by the lack of muscle and even though the skin is hard and coarse it does not seem like the kind of hand one would get by being a blacksmith
He expected to fall in exhaustions and then being trampled or being attack by the men at arms in the distance.
He expected that he would collapse
This…..right now, what is happening to him…. he did not expect
“What is happening to me?” he thought to himself
Right now, after defeating the squire, his breathing slowed down
Not gradually, but almost immediately.
Like he is being doused by some kind of a magic potion, his body which seems to be stretched to the limit suddenly feel like it reverted to its most original and natural state
The burning in his arms faded. Like water poured over blazing cola. And then his grip tightened around the hilt without effort
He looks at his leg and he smile. His legs steadied. He felt anchored and the mud beneath his boot no longer seemed to pull at him
The mud did not really pull at him but before, he was so tired that even the mud felt like it wanted to drag him down.
And then his heartbeat becomes calm.
Measured.
There is a change in his body that he himself did not know how to explain.
