Chapter 11: Secret

After a few moments, Kael’s friends slowly made their way out of the hospital room—relieved, smiling, and grateful that he was recovering far faster than expected. Soon, only Anya, Kael, and his spirit creature Kawa remained.

Kawa, still in the form of a red macaw, let out a disgruntled sigh.

Holder… I am returning to the belt pocket. I cannot continue looking like this. Being anything less than a Prime is… revolting.

Kael rubbed his forehead. Yeah… yeah, go ahead.

Kawa shimmered in red light, his form dissolving into particles before reverting into a Spirit Card. The card levitated gently through the air and slipped back into Kael’s belt pocket.

When Kael looked back, Anya stood tensely beside his bed, hands clasped, shoulders tight, eyes filled not with curiosity… but with worry.

  He frowned.

“Anya… what’s wrong? You’ve been anxious ever since earlier.”

Anya hesitated, just for a moment, before the dam finally broke.

Her voice trembled as she began.

“Kael… I need to tell you everything I saw in the cave.”

  Kael’s heart dropped.

Anya continued, her words slow, careful, but undeniably honest.

“When I ran to help you… I saw the Abberant attacking you nonstop. I was about to shoot it with my bow when…” she swallowed, “you suddenly stopped its tail.”

  Kael stiffened.

“You caught it. With your bare hand.”

Her eyes reflected the same confusion she felt then.

“And then… your aura exploded. It wasn’t normal. It wasn’t even close to normal.”

  Kael’s breath hitched.

  Anya continued.

“From your belt pocket, a Spirit Card floated up. It was… glowing in rainbow colors.”

  Kael froze.

All the blood drained from his face.

  She noticed.

This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.

  She kept going.

“Then I saw you cancel your spirit drive, your original spirit card. It was rainbow-colored too.”

Kael looked down, unable to respond.

His mind raced with excuses, explanations, half-formed lies, anything.

  But nothing came out.

Anya stepped closer, her voice softening.

  “Kael… I saw everything.”

  She drew a shaky breath.

“You didn’t just defeat the Abberant. You overwhelmed it. It was like watching something beyond human.”

  Kael swallowed hard, still speechless.

  The room fell quiet.

Then, Anya broke the silence gently.

  “I’m not angry.”

  Kael looked up, startled.

  “I’m not scared, either.”

She offered a small, reassuring smile.

“I know you must have had a reason for hiding it. Having one Prime is already impossible… but having two?” She shook her head. “Anyone would keep that secret.”

  Her eyes warmed.

“I just want you to know… I’ll keep it. All of it.”

Kael let out a long, relieved breath, one he didn’t even realize he’d been holding.

  “Thank you, Anya… really.”

  Anya smiled, softer now.

“You don’t have to carry everything alone, Kael.”

  Kael smiled softly.

  “Thank you, Anya.”

A few days later, Kael made a full recovery, faster than any of his friends.

  Even the doctors were shocked.

As he packed his belongings, preparing to leave the hospital, Kael tapped the Spirit Cards on his belt.

“Kylon, Kawa… about what the doctor said.”

  He lowered his voice.

“That my recovery was fast because of a passive ability, was that true?”

Kylon materialized beside him in a soft glow, his calm voice echoing in Kael’s mind.

“Yes, dear holder. That was my passive ability at work.”

  Kael blinked. “Your passive ability?”

  Kylon nodded gently.

“I possess Solar Restoration, a passive that accelerates recovery from wounds, injuries, illnesses, and even restores spirit energy when you are outside of battle.”

He floated closer, his tone patient and reassuring.

“What would take a normal human months… or even years to heal, takes you mere days as long as my passive remains active. I also possess two other passive abilities but your spirit energy can’t handle their power yet, holder.”

Kael stared at him in awe.

“No wonder the doctor looked like he saw a miracle.”

A sudden flare of red light burst from his belt pocket and floated close to him, Kawa emerging with his usual dramatic flair.

“Hmph! And my passive ability,” Kawa declared proudly, “is far more impressive.”

  He flicked his wings smugly.

“My passive ability, Ignited Soul, grants you strength ten times your normal power. Every strike, every movement, every ability becomes far more potent!”

  Kawa smirked, radiating pure arrogance.

“A fitting gift from a Prime Spirit such as myself.”

  Kael chuckled awkwardly.

Kylon, meanwhile, lowered his head in embarrassment.

“Please forgive him,” Kylon sighed. “He tends to… exaggerate his greatness.”

“Exaggerate?!” Kawa snapped. “I am greatness!”

Kael laughed as he slung his bag over his shoulder.

  “Yeah… I can tell.”

Kael stepped out of his hospital room, and immediately stopped.

Waiting for him in the lobby were Natalia, Kyle, Takeshi, Serafina, Anya, and Cain.

Even though most of them were still wrapped in bandages, they greeted him with bright smiles.

Natalia waved. “Finally! The miracle boy is out.”

Kyle crossed his arms, smirking. “Took you long enough.”

Takeshi gave a small nod of approval.

  Serafina bowed her head shyly.

“T-Thank you again… for saving us.”

Kael flushed. “Serafina, please… you’ve thanked me like twelve times already.”

She squeaked and hid behind Natalia.

  Cain chuckled softly.

“Well, it’s good you’re up. But classes won’t resume for a few days anyway, half the class is still recovering.”

He glanced meaningfully at Natalia, Kyle, and Takeshi, all wrapped in bandages.

  Then he looked at Kael.

“So? What will you do until everyone’s healed?”

Kael rubbed the back of his neck.

“First, I need to register Kawa. Then… visit you guys every day. And train.”

  His expression hardened.

“Watching you all get hurt… while I stood there weak… I never want that to happen again.”

Anya immediately stepped forward, bumping her shoulder against his.

“Then I’ll help you train,” she said brightly, her tone warm and encouraging.

Her sudden cheerfulness made a few people smile.

  Cain nodded approvingly.

“Training is good, but improving your gear might be even better. You’ve got plenty of Abberant cores. Visit the academy’s smithing course. They can help enhance your equipment.”

  Anya gasped in excitement.

“Yes! Kael, that’s perfect! While you’re upgrading your gear, I’ll upgrade mine too!”

  Kael grinned.

“Alright, sir. I’ll take your advice.”

With that, he waved goodbye and headed toward the exit.

Anya hurried after him, practically bouncing with energy.

As soon as the two disappeared outside, Natalia leaned toward Takeshi with a mischievous smirk.

  “Anya is so into Kael.”

  Takeshi snorted.

“Says the girl whose sister is into Kyle.”

He pointed subtly at Serafina fussing over Kyle’s bandages while Kyle, forgetting his usual “mysterious cool guy” act, fussed right back at her.

  Natalia bit back a laugh.

“You’re right. Looks like Cain really knows how to recruit lovers for the battle course.”

  Takeshi chuckled.

“At this rate, our class is going to be more dramatic than a romance holo-drama.”

  Natalia nudged him.

“Well… it is more entertaining than the Abberants.”
