Both Jian Zhi and Wǎn Lù stared at Lin Wei, their expressions a mixture of pure confusion and desperate expectation for an answer. She, however, was gazing upward, her attention captured by the majestic form of the Qilin shimmering in the Xīnyù's sky.
[Lin Wei]: "Xiǎo Jiān Zhì, how did the Serene Fury Qilin come to reside within your Xīnyù?"
[Jian Zhi]: "Oh, that. It was a consequence of assisting Lián to complete her Celestial Path more swiftly. While she confronted her trauma, I engaged and overwhelmed her soul beast. In the aftermath, her Apotheosis beast manifested here and informed me I could channel 20 to 35 per cent of its power in times of need." Lin Wei gave a slow, understanding nod, her mind already leaping ahead.
[Lin Wei]: "Did she possess a missing element? One that is dominant within you?"
[Jian Zhi]: "She was deficient in Metal, which is prominent in my soul." Lin Wei fell silent for a full minute, her spiritual form practically humming with intensity as she connected the disparate dots, reconstructing the accidental procedure that had unfolded.
[Lin Wei]: "It appears you conducted a process without conscious knowledge—a process that may hold the key to synthesising your own missing Water. The process is—" Just as the crucial words were about to leave her lips, the temporal limit of Wǎn Lù's Spirit-Pulse Resonance (魂脉共鸣 - Hún Mài Gòngmíng) expired. Her consciousness was violently wrenched from the Xīnyù and hurled back into the physical world.
(Beneath Jian Zhi's Bed)
Wǎn Lù startled awake, her body jerking reflexively. A sharp thud echoed softly as her forehead collided with the wooden slats of the bed above.
[Wǎn Lù]: "Ahh! [Rubbing her forehead fiercely] It cut out at the most critical moment! Damn it all, how much longer must I wait for an answer?"
Lǐ Róng and Xuè Lán materialised at the bedside, moving with urgent silence. They helped extract her from the cramped space and swiftly escorted her back to the privacy of the study. The moment the door closed, the couple's composure cracked, their faces etched with desperate need.
[Lǐ Róng]: "What transpired in his Xīnyù? Did you make contact with his mother?"
[Wǎn Lù]: "[A long, weary sigh] Yes, I met her. But she is… not ordinary. She is the only force in any realm capable of taming that obstinate brat. 'Mr. Deadeyes was as obedient as a chastised child in her presence. She can read thoughts—there is no hiding anything from her—and yet, he had managed to conceal his condition. But… [a warm, involuntary smile touched her lips] she resembled a goddess of courage and resolve. And she knows the cure. She questioned him about the two Apotheosis beasts in his Xīnyù. The Qilin is Lián's, yet it resides with him as an emergency resource. I hypothesise that this is directly linked to whatever he did for Lián. We must wait for him to awaken for the full explanation."
[Xuè Lán]: "Two beasts? And his mother can subdue our Dragon King? Whoa… that is nearly unimaginable, yet a profound relief to hear. That bastard… [her smile was sorrowful and fond] at least he can still feel the warmth of care and love somewhere within himself." Lǐ Róng pulled his wife into a firm embrace, his hand gently rubbing circles on her back to soothe the tremor in her spirit.
[Lǐ Róng]: "We will wait for his awakening. But, Your Highness… will he be calm?"
[Wǎn Lù]: "He should be. Otherwise… [she rolled her eyes with a nervous, brittle smile] you two can handle him, right? Good night. Let us hope he does not perceive this as an act of war." She did not wait for a reply, fleeing the room with haste.
(In Wǎn Lù's Chambers)
Alone, the tension finally bled from her shoulders.
[Wǎn Lù]: (Internal Monologue) "[A heavy sigh of relief] I pray he does not awaken enraged and seeking retribution. That moron nearly ended me today. I still have the fate of the Azure Mandate Empire resting on my shoulders. Whatever comes… I am ready to face him. [A determined *hmph*]"* Exhaustion, both spiritual and physical, claimed her, and she fell into a fitful sleep, her dreams haunted by calculations and the piercing gaze of a mother's spirit.

(Inside Jian Zhi's Xīnyù)
The sudden disappearance of Wǎn Lù left a quiet void. Lin Wei and Jian Zhi remained calm, undisturbed by the interruption.
[Lin Wei]: "It seems her allotted time concluded. Regardless, the process is called Soul-Substrate Doping (魂基掺杂 - Hún Jī Chānzá). It is a method for the artificial synthesis of a missing elemental component within the soul, facilitated by one who possesses that element in abundance. Just as you inadvertently performed for Lián, someone must now perform it for you."
[Jian Zhi]: "How is it executed, Ma? Must the assisting individual combat my soul beast?"
[Lin Wei]: "When you entered Lián's Xīnyù, did you allow your Apotheosis aura to radiate unchecked? That intense emission catalysed the formation of a minute seed of the Metal element within her spiritual substrate. As for its growth… she merely needed to exist within the sphere of your aura. The stronger and more sustained the exposure, the more rapid the elemental integration. For your condition, the variables will depend on the donor's aura radius and its density."
Jian Zhi nodded, his mind assimilating the data, constructing a flawless internal model of the procedure.
[Jian Zhi]: "The protocol is: identify a subject with a potent Water element, use their aura to implant a Water seed within my soul, then remain within their aura radius for integration and growth. Is my summation correct, Ma?" Seeing her son recite and verify the steps so clinically reminded her vividly of his childhood—a small boy parsing the world into logical sequences. A warm, nostalgic smirk touched her lips.
[Lin Wei]: "[Her smile widening] You still recite and verify processes just as you did when you were small. Aigoo, come here. [She opened her arms, pulling him into a tight embrace] My little treasure. Now, let us tour your domain and meet the family." For the first time in eight long years, mother and son walked side-by-side through his inner world, as they once had through bustling market lanes at dusk.
They first entered the Wood District. The air was saturated with the fresh, clean scent of leaves and rich soil, a fragrance that seemed to brighten the very light around them. Approaching them was the manifestation of his Wood element—a serene presence with the gentle, protective air of an elder sister. Her face lit with a soft, happy smile upon seeing Lin Wei.
[Wood Soul]: "Greetings, Mother. [She offered a graceful, polite bow.] I govern this district. I must apologise for failing to guide him properly. I could not temper this stubborn child, though I endeavour ceaselessly." Lin Wei stepped forward and hugged the elemental spirit, patting her back with maternal reassurance.
[Lin Wei]: "[Her voice warm] Do not blame yourself for his stubbornness. You are doing your utmost, and that is all a mother can ask. Now, let us introduce you to the others."
Accompanied by the Wood Soul, they journeyed on. They met the **Fire Soul**—a grumpy, resentful entity that glowered at Jian Zhi but became soft and pliant under Lin Wei's gaze. They visited the **Earth Soul**, a mature, nurturing presence that had spent years cradling Jian Zhi's lost inner child; the bond of shared motherly energy between it and Lin Wei was palpable and strong.
Finally, they arrived at the Metal District, a landscape of crystalline spires and weapon-forges. The Metal Soul rested within a castle of gleaming blades.
[Lin Wei]: "Xiǎo Zhì, this will be the optimal location to seed your Water element. Metal produces Water in the generative cycle. Water will then nurture Earth, Earth fosters Wood, Wood fuels Fire, and Fire tempers Metal. By planting the seed here, at the cycle's point of generation, you create a self-reinforcing system." She turned to the waiting Metal Soul.
[Metal Soul]: "Greetings, Mother. I… overperformed my function. I apologise for rendering him a soulless statue."
[Lin Wei]: "If you feel guilt, then repent through action. You will be the anvil upon which the new element is forged. Prepare to be of use." Her tone was not unkind, but it held the unyielding chill of tempered steel.
Having designated the site for the implantation and delivered her decree, the Hour of the Ox drew to a close. As Lin Wei's spirit began to fade, walking back toward the source of light, Jian Zhi's consciousness returned to his body.
He awoke as the first rays of the morning sun grazed his face. He jolted upright in bed. His fist clenched involuntarily, his jaw tightening for a fleeting moment as a sharp, hot spike of pure **anger** lanced through his chest—a sensation utterly foreign for eight long years.
[Jian Zhi]: (Internal Monologue) "What is this affective disturbance? The sensory profile is familiar, yet the dataset is nearly a decade old. Why is it manifesting now? A correlated variable: the intruder's presence. Hypothesis: Her soul possesses a high Water concentration. But who authorised her entry into my Xīnyù? Her Apotheosis is an Abyssal Water Phoenix. Conclusion: She is a high-probability donor candidate and possesses a technique analogous to my 'Dream-Weaver's Judgment' for Xīnyù infiltration."
With these questions forming a new and urgent problem tree in his mind, he rose and began his meticulous preparations for the day. It would be a long one, spent in the company of a princess who now harboured secrets within secrets.
