[SEMIFINAL: ALEX VS MAYA - CLIMAX]
[Nine-Tails Inferno] was Akari's ultimate attack.
All nine tails rose high, each blazing with different energy—red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet, white, black.
Then they converged on a single point above Akari's head.
And exploded downward as a column of multicolored fire that struck the center of the arena.
BOOM.
The shockwave shook the entire stadium. Spectators in the front rows were nearly thrown from their seats. The cameras trembled.
The column of fire expanded, becoming a sphere of elemental energy that grew to fill a thirty-meter circle.
Alex and Grim were directly in it.
"MOVE!" Alex shouted.
Both launched outward—Alex using [Shadow Step], Grim using pure speed.
[MP: 140/440]
They almost made it.
Almost.
The edge of the blast caught them.
[Massive Damage]
[Combined HP: 860 → 560/1,730]
Alex screamed—not just from pain, but from the sheer intensity of elemental energy burning through every nerve.
Grim was thrown like a ragdoll, crashing, rolling.
When the smoke cleared, both lay on the ground, barely conscious.
The crowd fell silent, waiting to see if either would rise.
Ten seconds.
Fifteen.
Then Alex forced himself to his hands and knees, coughing blood.
[Combined HP: 560/1,730] (32% remaining)
And Grim—incredibly—also rose, staggering but standing.
"THEY'RE STANDING!" the commentator roared. "AFTER TAKING [NINE-TAILS INFERNO] DIRECTLY, BOTH ARE STILL STANDING!"
Maya looked impressed. "Incredible. That should have knocked you both out."
"Almost did," Alex gasped. "But... we're not done yet."
"Together," Grim said, voice raspy but determined. "Still... fight."
"Can you do one more attack?" Alex asked.
"Yes. One. More."
"Then we make it count." Alex drank his last mana potion.
[MP: 140 → 340/440]
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
"Final play! [Shadow Step] + [Life Drain] + [Reaper's Strike]—full combo!"
Alex teleported directly behind Akari.
[MP: 320/440]
Grim charged from the front.
Pincer attack.
"Akari, [Ring of Fire]—defense!" Maya ordered.
But Alex had timed this perfectly. He arrived just as the flames began forming, before they were fully manifested.
He touched Akari's flank.
[Life Drain - Maximum Power]
[MP: 270/440]
Pale green energy flowed from the fox into Alex and Grim.
[Combined HP: 560 → 760/1,730]
[Akari HP: 3,200 → 2,800/3,200]
Akari howled—not from pain exactly, but from the shock of having her life force drained.
And in that moment of distraction—
Grim struck.
[Reaper's Strike - All Remaining Power]
The scythe cut in a perfect horizontal arc, striking directly at Akari's center of mass.
[Critical Hit]
[Akari HP: 2,800 → 1,400/3,200]
Akari staggered, falling onto her front legs.
"NO!" Maya ran forward. "Akari, [Phoenix Rebirth]!"
Akari's emergency skill—revive from defeat with 50% HP.
But Alex had expected this. Had planned for this.
"[Blood Weapon]—chain form!"
[MP: 220/440]
The blood from his earlier wound solidified into crimson chains that shot forward, wrapping around Akari's nine tails, binding them together.
[Phoenix Rebirth] required all nine tails to move independently to channel rebirth energy properly.
With the tails bound...
The skill failed.
Akari tried to rise, but her legs gave out.
She collapsed, unconscious.
The referee ran forward, checking.
Ten seconds passed. Akari didn't move.
"Knockout! Victory to Alex Carter!"
For exactly three seconds, absolute silence.
Then the stadium exploded.
Half the crowd roaring approval.
Half booing the "dirty" tactic of blood chains.
But all absolutely stunned.
The commentators talking over each other:
"INCREDIBLE! ALEX CARTER HAS JUST DEFEATED MAYA PARK! HE DEFEATED A LEVEL 52 NINE-TAILED FOX!"
"And that final combination! Coordinated use of Shadow Step, Life Drain, and Blood Weapon! That's master-level execution!"
"But look at the cost! Carter can barely stand! And look at his HP readings—he's in critical zone!"
True. Alex collapsed onto his hands and knees, barely conscious.
[Blood-Forged Bond ended]
[HP split back]
[Alex HP: 380/880]
[Grim HP: 380/850]
Both in critical zone.
Medics ran into the arena, checking both competitors.
Maya recovered first—she hadn't been directly injured, just exhausted from MP drain. She knelt beside Alex.
"Damn," she said, but she was smiling. "You're stronger than I thought. Much stronger. Well played, Carter. Well played."
"You... almost killed me," Alex gasped.
"Well, that was the idea." Maya laughed. "But you won cleanly. No tricks. Just pure skill." She looked at Grim. "And that skeleton of yours is absolutely incredible."
She stood, offering her hand to help Alex up.
He took it, letting her pull him to his feet.
"Marcus's semifinal is in an hour," Maya said. "Rest. Eat. Recover. Because that golden dragon... it's different. It's stronger than Akari. Faster. And Marcus won't make the same mistakes I did."
"I know."
"But hey." Maya squeezed his shoulder. "If anyone can beat him, it's you. You just proved it."
She walked away, escorted by medics for check-up.
Alex was taken to the medical room, where he spent the next hour being treated, fed, and basically prepared for potentially having to fight again tomorrow.
But first, he needed to see something.
---
[MEDICAL ROOM - TV SCREEN - 12:47 PM]
"Can you turn up the volume?" Alex asked the nurse.
She obliged, turning on the wall-mounted TV. It showed the second semifinal:
Marcus Steele vs Emily Chen.
Alex watched, memorizing every detail.
Emily fought valiantly. Her unicorn—Luna—used every support skill available. [Purifying Light]. [Starfall]. [Blessing of Protection].
But Marcus's golden dragon—Aurum—was simply in another league.
Level 57. Fully awakened. Every skill unlocked.
The "fight" lasted exactly two minutes and forty-three seconds.
Marcus didn't play. Didn't showboat. He simply... ended it.
Aurum used [Solar Breath] once. Luna barely dodged.
Aurum used [Solar Supremacy]—his ultimate attack.
The sky above the arena lit up like a second sun. Golden light filled every inch of space.
When it cleared, Luna was unconscious. Emily was on her knees, protected only by Luna's last-second shield that had absorbed most of the damage.
But the fight was over.
"Victory to Marcus Steele! By referee decision—Emily Chen cannot continue!"
The crowd roared approval. Marcus hadn't even broken a sweat. He waved like a rock star while Aurum roared triumphantly.
The commentators were ecstatic:
"And that's how it's done! Absolute domination! Marcus Steele moves to the finals without even being pressed!"
"The power of the golden dragon is simply astounding! Carter is going to need a miracle to defeat that!"
Alex stared at the screen, his expression unreadable.
The nurse noticed. "Nervous about the finals?"
"Should I be?" Alex asked.
"Honestly? Yes." She didn't sugarcoat it. "That dragon is... well, it's level 57. And you're level 24. That's a thirty-three level gap. That's..."
"Impossible," Alex finished.
"I was going to say 'very unlikely.' But yeah. Pretty much."
Alex didn't respond. Just kept watching the screen as Marcus celebrated.
Tomorrow, he thought. Everything is decided tomorrow.

[THAT NIGHT - HOTEL ROOM - 7:47 PM - 11:47 PM]
Alex had five visitors throughout the night.
First: Viktor
He'd appeared from the shadows—literally, using some kind of teleportation skill.
"You won the semifinal. Well done." Direct voice, no flourishes. "But Marcus is different. Level 57, fully awakened dragon, years of elite training. You'll need Grim's Awakened Form. Full power. No restrictions."
"And the judges' restrictions?" Alex had asked.
"Fuck the restrictions. If you're losing, use everything. The temple can arrest you after you win. But if you lose, it won't matter anyway."
Brutal logic but true.
Viktor had left as silently as he'd arrived.
Second: Valeria Kane
She'd knocked properly, waiting for permission to enter.
"Carter." Formal as always. "Impressive victory today. But I need to warn you—the Temple is watching. Very closely. If you use too much forbidden power in the finals..."
"What? They'll arrest me?"
"Yes." No hesitation. "Father Augustin has already drafted the arrest warrant. He's just waiting for sufficient cause. If you cross the line tomorrow, if you show more death power than can be explained..."
Pause.
"I won't be able to protect you anymore. Not even if I wanted to."
Alex had nodded. "Understood. Thanks for the warning."
Valeria had hesitated at the door. "For what it's worth... good luck. You're going to need it."
Third: Seraph
She'd appeared on the balcony—apparently she'd climbed the building.
"Hello again, Bearer." Smiling despite still being bandaged from her "defeat" in the Quarterfinals.
"Fragment 3 is in Fallen Citadel. I confirm it—I've been able to feel it more strongly since we arrived in this city. It's calling." She touched her chest. "After you win tomorrow, we can go together. Five people allowed, right? You, me, and three more of your choice."
"If I win?"
"When you win," Seraph corrected. "But first... survive tomorrow. That dragon is serious."
"Everyone keeps telling me that."
"Because it's true." Seraph had left via the balcony, climbing back down with agility that defied physics.
Fourth: Raven
She'd appeared through the window—not climbing, but apparently floating.
"Hello, sweetheart." Her usual flirtatious energy but with a serious edge underneath. "So. Finals tomorrow. Against little golden dragon boy. Need help poisoning the dragon?"
"Raven—"
"Just kidding. Mostly." Wink. "But seriously, if you need an edge, I have poisons that could slow even a level 57 dragon. No trace. No one would know."
Alex had considered—tempting, honestly—then shook his head. "No. If I win, I need to win cleanly."
"So noble. So boring." But she smiled. "Fine. Do it your way. Just... don't die, okay? I still owe you advanced blood magic techniques."
Fifth and finally: Emily
She'd arrived last, knocking softly at 9:30 PM.
"Hi," she'd said quietly. "I know it's late. But... I just wanted to say something before tomorrow."
"What?"
"No matter what happens tomorrow... I'm proud of you. You made it this far. Further than anyone thought possible." She touched his hand. "And whether you win or lose, you've already proven everything you needed to prove."
"Not if I lose," Alex had said. "If I lose, I don't get access to Fallen Citadel. I don't get—"
"Fragment 3," Emily had finished quietly. "Yeah. I've been researching. I know what you're looking for. And I know why."
Alex had frozen. "How—?"
"Because I know you, Alex. Better than you think." She smiled sadly. "And because I've read the same ancient texts you've probably read. About the Reaper. About the Seven Fragments. About what happens if they're all reunited."
Pause.
"Just... promise me you know what you're getting into. That you're not doing this blindly."
"I know," Alex had said. "And I'm doing it anyway."
Emily had nodded. "Then good luck. I'll be watching. And Alex..." She leaned in, kissed his cheek. "Thank you. For never giving up. Even when everyone else did."
She'd left, leaving Alex touching his cheek, confused about how he felt about that.

[HOTEL ROOM - 11:47 PM]
Now Alex lay in his bed, staring at the ceiling, replaying everything in his mind.
His system showed progress update:
[Tournament Progress]
Rounds Completed: 1, 2, 3, Quarterfinals, Semifinals
Current Position: Top 2 (Finalist)
Final Opponent: Marcus Steele (Golden Dragon, Level 57)
[Current Status]
Level: 24 (gained during semifinals)
HP: 880/880 (fully healed by medics)
MP: 440/440 (fully recovered)
Souls: 251.3/1000
[Grim - Status]
HP: 850/850 (fully healed)
MP: 360/360 (fully recovered)
Available Forms: Latent, Intermediate, Awakened (never publicly shown)
Alex looked at Grim, who was sitting on the windowsill in 80-centimeter form, the red lights in his sockets glowing faintly in the darkness.
"Tomorrow," he said quietly. "Everything is decided tomorrow."
Grim grew to a meter and a half, walked to the bed, the red lights blazing brighter.
"Together. We win. Together."
"Even against a level 57 dragon?"
"Even. Against. Dragon."
"We're going to need Awakened Form. Full. No restrictions."
"Then. We use. Everything."
"The Temple will arrest us. Viktor said as much."
"After. Winning. Doesn't. Matter."
"Doesn't matter being arrested?"
"Matters. Winning. Getting. Fragment 3. After... we handle. Temple."
Alex considered this. Grim was right. If he lost, he didn't get access to Fallen Citadel. No access, no Fragment 3. No Fragment 3, the entire reunion of the Seven stopped.
But if he won...
If he won, he'd have access. He'd get Fragment 3. And arrest would be... manageable. Viktor and the Circle would help. Seraph too. Maybe even Valeria, if it was convenient for her.
"Alright," Alex decided. "Tomorrow, we use everything. Awakened Form. Maximum power. If we win, we handle the consequences after."
"Agreed."
Grim returned to his spot on the windowsill, shrinking back to 80 centimeters.
Alex closed his eyes, trying to sleep.
But every time he did, he saw the golden dragon. Aurum. Level 57. [Solar Supremacy].
Can I really defeat that? he wondered.
He had no answer.
He only knew he had to try.
Because everything—the Fragments, the Reaper, fate itself—depended on winning tomorrow.
