Chapter 19: Second

"On the upside it seems that doing the chair thing earlier has completely nullified and prevented the growth of [Burning] for now, which is already a lot better than our last attempts."

  Hang on I think-

The chair burst into flames as the rest of it was Blazed by him, the second it started Blazing he started Fabricating the shadow as soon as possible.

  There!

"... You just managed to switch from the chair to the shadow immediately."

That I did. Doing good, right?

"Looks like someone is motivated to not accept that mission."

Of course I am. I'm not letting that happen again. No matter what I have to do. Murder aside of course.

  "Of course."

He finished Blazing the chair, the ropes, the gag, and his clothes. He didn't need them, and spent all of his Lux on shadows, creating a large surface the sun couldn't penetrate. They had completely avoided the sun's heat in its entirety. He turned to face the hole in the sky that Brother Shade had thrown him out of- There was a second one.

You have got to be kidding me.

"Check their stats, it might not be as bad."

The second one looked almost exactly the same aside from the mask. It had a teardrop instead of a grin. He brought up their [Character Stats].

"I see. You're going to die."

I'm going to die. I didn't even realise it could possibly get worse.

"Yeah. It can always get worse."

  I see that now.

  [Notice: New Mission]

  [Accept / Decline]

"That'll be another miniboss mission thing."

  Definitely.

Sister Spark: I see why you called me Brother.

Brother Shade: I wouldn't call another without reason Sister.

Abel: Did I do something in my past life to deserve this?

"I wouldn't know. But I don't think Lumex is cruel enough to forsake you with my fate. Probably."

  Abel: This is so unfair.

"Perhaps they'll let us go now that we've survived Lumex's wrath or something?"

  Really? That's your idea?

"You'll never know unless you try."

Abel: Any chance you'll be letting me go now that I survived Lumex's wrath or something?

  Sister Spark: No.

  Abel: Thought not.

  "It was worth a try."

It was a waste of time.

Brother Shade: You've seen far too much Kaelen.

Abel: I didn't see a thing, between the darkness and the sun burning out my retina-

Sister Spark: The sun didn't burn out your eyes Kaelen.

Abel: Tch. You don't know that.

Sister Spark: You're looking right at us.

Abel: I got lucky. So, what are you going to do? As I see it you can't enter the light without burning just like me.

  Brother Shade: *laughing* Can't we?

Abel watches in horror as they step right into light without even Fabricating any of the material he had used to block out the sun. Meaning either their clothes were made out of the same stuff as the Shadow Shield, or they were made out of other materials that could block sunlight.

"Well that's not good. Not that it's my problem, good luck. Let's see how long you survive."

Abel: Why is my luck this bad? How does any of this even work?

Sister Spark: Unfortunately for you we have no reason to tell you.

Brother Shade: I think we've had enough talk, right Sister?

Sister Spark: You are right Brother. It's time. You hold him down, I'll Blaze him and then Fabricate a physical Sigil.

Abel: I am here you know.

"They plan on Blazing us whilst we're still alive? I wonder if that hurts or not."

  I imagine it does.

Brother Shade lunges at him and manages to grab his arms and pin him, stopping him from moving no matter how hard he tries. Sister Spark started to come towards him.

"Blaze him! This is your chance Abel! You can Blaze something from any point of contact, not just your hands! Kill him now and we might be able to win!"

Abel knew what he had to do, there was really only one option after all. But he had never killed someone before and wasn't sure he could start. Not like this. -No, that wasn't true, he had killed Talyndra, even if it wasn't willingly. It was Kaelen who gave him the idea, but that didn't mean he wanted or was able to actually do it. The [Help Menu] had said you could Blaze a living human, and that seemed to be what they were going to do to him after all, so all he had to do was Blaze Brother Shade and then kill Sister Spark. Assuming she didn't Fabricate a weapon it shouldn't be too hard when he leveled up from killing Brother Shade. But if Brother Shade died she would definitely Fabricate something.

  "It's us or them."

  Abel: Forgive me...

"Most people assume you have to touch something to Blaze it, and that in of itself is true, but it isn't the full truth. You had to touch something, yes, but not with your hands, any bit of skin counted, though the exact definition of “bit” when it came to points of contact tended to get rather complicated and I never really bothered studying stuff like that back at school so I'm not 100% sure of what does or doesn't count, but I do know that this definitely does."

Though he didn't know if he'd be able to stomach killing a second time and then a third, he did know was that they made a grievous mistake by not having Brother Shade immediately Blaze him and try to get more Lux out of him by having Sister Spark do it instead. Abel was naked and Brother Shade was holding him, he was nothing but skin right now, and so in order to survive, Abel began Blazing at every point of contact between himself and Brother Shade.

  Brother Shade, screaming: -AAH!

A horrendous scream came out of Brother Shade as Abel Blazed him, killing him and taking all of his Lux. Sister Spark stops for a second in confusion, before dashing at Abel trying to stop him. But it was too late, Brother Shade was gone, and Kaelen had more Lux than he had ever had, and so he began to Fabricate. A sword, and then longer, and then compressed, and then longer, and then compressed- Over and over again he compressed a sword and made it perfect. He made it out of wood, highly compressed wood, it would take forever to burn. So he Blazed his Shadow Shield, setting his sword alight. He had made a flaming longsword, absolutely perfect in every way. Now all he needed to do was kill Sister Spark and get away.

"Why the hell did you spend almost all of the points on defense?"

Our defense is now over double her attack, you don't think that'll account for anything?

"I think I understand the plan. I still think you're going to die."

Me too. That [Advanced Future Sight, Level 7] is going to be bad. But we do have a flaming sword now.

Abel, frowning: I'm so, so sorry for all of this.

Sister Spark: You won't be for long.

Sister Spark Fabricates a long scythe and swings it at Abel. He tries to block with his sword, but upon the two weapons making contact the scythe sparks. A ball of fire engulfs a small area around the tip of the scythe like a miniature explosion, shattering his sword. Abel's eyes widen in shock as he jumps back trying to get out of range of the blade itself.

  "You were saying?"
