Chapter 15: Kaelen and Abel

  [>>> {Save State #1 Ending} <<<]

[Notice: Save State #1 has now finished replaying]

... Replay... It did exactly what it said it would, showing him everything from the first and original Save State, including Kaelen's thoughts, a large amount of which were similar to his own. Would that be because he now had Kaelen's body so his mind worked differently now? With Kaelen's body was he still himself? He had a lot of questions now, mainly-

Abel: Who was speaking at the end?

He was definitely not touching the other Save States, he had suffered them already and knew them well, he didn't need them and didn't want to experience death again, not when he didn't have to. He did know now, however, how Kaelen had managed to survive under the sun longer than he had. He had simply blocked out the sun. He felt stupid now, it really should've been obvious to him, if you're burning up under the sun then remove the sun from the equation.

  Kaelen: Took you long enough.

He spun so fast he could've sworn he snapped the neck at the sound, he ran over to the mirror and saw his body- Actually his body, the body he had back when he was Abel Cyrus- sitting in the mirror, speaking to him with his own voice, the voice he heard when speaking as Kaelen. As the creature had promised, it seemed him and Kaelen would now be discussing what to do about this body that wasn't truly his.

  Abel: Kaelen...?

He was surprised when he heard his voice. It was his actual voice, from when he was in his own body.

  Kaelen: Abel. We finally meet.

Abel: I... Have no idea what to say to you. How are you here?

Kaelen: I know you saw my pact with that thing.

Abel: I did, but that doesn't answer my question.

  Kaelen: Honestly I'm not sure.

Abel: Where have you been this whole time? Looks like you've been in my body.

Kaelen: I haven't been anywhere. You stole my body, that doesn't mean I got yours. It wasn't a trade, it was a one way robbery.

  Abel: ... I can't deny that.

  Kaelen: No. You can't.

Abel: Where do we go from here?

Kaelen: You give me my body back and then I continue with my life.

Abel: But if you take your body back won't your pact be invalid? Wouldn't you lose The Sigil of Resurrection?

Kaelen: You're guessing. We both know that neither of us have any idea what would happen if I get my body back.

Abel: I can't give it back.

  Kaelen: Too bad.

Abel: If I give it back then there's no guarantee that I'll even return to my home world, never mind my own body.

Kaelen: That's not my problem, I'm the one who's body was taken from me, not you.

Abel: Hey! I had no say in this either Kaelen, it's not like I chose to get Transmigrated!

  Kaelen: Again. Not my problem.

Abel: You can't do this to me, it's murder.

Kaelen: And let you murder me or Talyndra again?

  Abel: That's not fair.

Kaelen: Fair? You want to talk fair? Were you the one forced to make some one-sided pact with some unknown God or something?

Abel: No. But that doesn't mean I don't get a say in this. This is my body too-

Kaelen: It is nothing of the sort! You've had that body of mine for a matter of hours, I had it for two decades! It's not yours, it's mine!

Abel: You're not the one who's died four times in it.

Kaelen: Do you expect me to thank you for that or something?

Abel: It's your fault the first one occurred.

Kaelen: You didn't seem to do any better under the same situation. You did worse even.

Abel: I've suffered in this body! I deserve some claim!

Kaelen: You think I haven't suffered?! You deserve nothing, the body is mine by birthright!

Abel: Kaelen, we have to agree to something. I'm not giving up the body and neither are you, perhaps we can find some sort of split.

Kaelen: Split? You expect me to split my own body with some invader? It was never yours to begin with!

Abel: If it wasn't for me you would've died under that sun instead of having this chance here and now.

Kaelen: The only half-decent point you've made the entire time.

  Abel: Thank you.

  Kaelen: It wasn't a compliment.

Abel: We should split this body, it's the only way to guarantee keeping the Sigil whilst keeping the both of us alive. -Or at least as alive as we can be considering what the Sigil does and the situation we're in now.

Kaelen: What do you suggest? I'll consider it.

  Abel: 50-50 split?

This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.

  Kaelen: In what way?

Abel: How about deaths? I get a Save State, and then you get one, and so on.

Kaelen: No. Too easy to cheat, like what you're doing now. You're not trying to get around the problem and surviving by default instead of facing it head on.

Abel: Time? I get, say, eight hours? And we alternate.

Kaelen: Who sleeps? It's too easy for one of us to sabotage the other by sleeping in.

Abel: How about time, not including sleep?

Kaelen: Too dangerous, if we get into a situation and the time runs out, what happens?

Abel: True. Can you just accompany me? Like a ghost. I control the body and you just do you?

Kaelen: Sure- Only if we can do it the other way around. You're the ghost and the body is mine.

Abel: This is getting us nowhere. Do you have any suggestions?

Kaelen: How about giving me my fucking body back?

  Abel: Aside from that.

  Kaelen: No.

  Abel: You're so unhelpful.

Kaelen: My apologies, maybe I just don't really enjoy having my body stolen.

  Abel: Touché.

  Kaelen: What?

Abel: Nevermind. Look, I can't think of anything else so we'll just have to suffer one of those. That or we split up the body, I get one hand and you get the other and so on.

Kaelen: Disgusting. And what about parts like the nose where there's only one? It's too illogical.

Abel: How about you accompany me and we periodically switch out, just whenever?

Kaelen: You think I'll trust you to actually do as you say?

Abel: I do. Because I think you've been watching. You talked about my death under the sun like you personally saw it.

  Kaelen: You killed Talyndra.

Abel: Talyndra killed me, and I also didn't do so entirely willingly, also also I dealt with the consequences of that myself.

  Kaelen: ...

  Abel: Kaelen, please?

Kaelen: You get one try, if by the end of this Save State you've not given me reason to trust you then I'm taking the body by force.

Abel: I'm not even sure you can do that.

  Kaelen: I can try.

Abel: True. Do we have a deal then?

  Kaelen: For now.

Abel: Good. Now then, it's time for me to continue exploring the [Help Menu].

  Kaelen: Please no...

Abel: Unless you're willing and able to explain everything in it to me.

Kaelen: By Lumex, someone please kill me.

Abel: I don't think you can even die in that state.

A sudden knocking at the door stops him from actually continuing to explore the [Help Menu].

  Kaelen: Thank God.

Abel: That's weird. I don't know what to expect from this one.

Kaelen: Why would you, it's not like you've experienced this before so far.

  [Notice: Skill gained]

[Spirit Talker, Level 0 (+1) -> Spirit Talker, Level 1]

Kaelen: Really? Spirit Talker? Do I classify as a spirit?

  Abel: Probably yeah.

Kaelen: Can you stop talking? Shouldn't you go answer the door or something?

Abel: Oh shit! Right, yeah, I should.

He stands up and leaves the room, and turns to look at the mirror, the reflection of the real Kaelen in his original body looking back at him.

Abel: Are you going to come with or what?

  Kaelen: I'm trying, I'm trying.

The reflection's hands move out of the mirror, grabbing onto its edges before it forces itself out, a spectral ghost-like body floating towards him, staying midair. It was strange seeing his old body again, and knowing that it was possessed by Kaelen.

"To be fair, you're possessing my body too."

The way he was talking was even weird though, it was like he was speaking straight into Abel's head, though the mouth was moving.

"Technically it's my head, not yours."

Yeah yeah, whatever. I need to go answer that door. He left the room, being followed by his own ghost- or rather Kaelen Calder in the... Not flesh, before reaching the door to the house-

  "My house."

Abel: I'm aware. Could you, like, not?

"You may not want to talk out loud when you're talking to me, you'll make me seem insane."

True. Either way, he opened the door when the slamming got louder. It was Talyndra again, had he died without noticing it?

"I don't think so, we would've noticed dying. It tends to be hard to miss that kind of thing."

  Was she crying?

  Abel: Talyndra? Is something wrong?
