Chapter 8: A Kiss, A Punch, And A Stutter

The elven doctor gazed at Caelen with infatuation, showing clearly in her eyes. Caelen looked back at the woman, confused, and reiterated what he said before, unsure if she had heard him the first time.

“Um…I just told you, we’re here for my son. He hurt himself.”

“Yes, yes, never mind that. I want to know what I can do for you,” the elven doctor said as she stood up from her wooden chair and got closer to Caelen.

Standing up, the woman was shorter than I had expected. She was about the same height as Liora, so it looked awkward for Caelen to look down at her. Her body also wasn’t much to look at. She was flat-chested and barely had any curves. Not that I minded. Back on Earth, I would hire all sorts of different women to sleep with me. From big-bosomed to small, I didn’t discriminate in the slightest. That was just the kind of guy I was.

“Dr. Elasha, I really don’t understand what you mean by tha-”

Suddenly, while Caelen was in the middle of speaking, he was cut off by Dr. Elasha pulling him down to her level by the shirt and kissing him square on the lips.

I watched on with mixed feelings. On one hand, I was a bit jealous that Caelen was apparently such a chick magnet. Though I felt no attraction to her in the slightest, I could admit that Mira was at least somewhat decent-looking. That, along with the fact that he could apparently make women fall in love with him with no effort at all, to the point where they would kiss him, made me sort of upset. Why couldn’t I have that power?

Though after giving it a bit more thought, I eventually came to the realization that I might actually have that power too. After all, I did technically share the same genes as the man. Maybe I’d grow up to be the same way. Maybe in this life, I might actually be able to get women without paying.

If that’s the case, maybe being born this man’s “son” wasn’t such a bad thing after all.

With a slight grin on my face, I suddenly remembered that I wasn’t the only one in the room and decided to see what everyone else thought of the kiss. Looking to the side, Liora was unsurprisingly slack-jawed. I guess watching her father being kissed by another woman was surprising to her.

I then looked down at Mira, whose shoulders I was sitting atop. I figured she probably wouldn’t be too pleased about what had just unfolded. After all, the woman would get pissed over the smallest things. She really had no control over her emotions.

I was right, of course. Mira’s grip on my feet, which she was holding onto as she carried me, tightened. She then calmly sat me down and slowly approached Caelen and Dr. Elasha. She tapped Dr. Elasha on the shoulder. When the doctor turned her head to face Mira, she was met with a swift fist to the face.

  ***

“S-sorry about that,” Dr. Elasha apologized as she sat in a chair and held a hand to her face. She had cast a glowing green healing spell after being pummeled by Mira.

Huh, so I guess Caelen isn’t as attractive as I thought. Guess it isn’t in the genes after all.

We all stood around Dr. Elasha, though my height made it difficult for me to have a good view. Because of this, I reluctantly reached up towards Liora, and she took the hint, picking me up and holding me in her arms so I could see.

“I was actually trying to experiment with an infatuation potion, and I thought, what better way to test it out than to try it on myself.”

The woman spoke in a sophisticated and educated manner, despite her appearance and her earlier stunt, though it did make sense, considering she was a doctor and all. Though if I had seen her around without knowing who she was, I might have just assumed she was a child.

“Well, that doesn’t give you the right to force yourself onto my husband! I mean, honestly. We come here looking for genuine help, and instead, we get this!” Mira spouted off.

I could understand why she was so pissed, but to be honest, I found it amusing. I was glad that something bad was finally happening to her. I was also glad that it was making her so upset. She deserved it after what she had done to me.

Mira continued to yell at Dr. Elasha, doing her typical long-winded scolding, which I had learned to tune out by this point in my new life. Bored, I decided to glance over at Caelen and see how he was holding up. Unsurprisingly, he was holding up well. He was scratching the back of his head and had a stupid grin on his face as he giggled to himself. The man must have really enjoyed it. Though I couldn’t blame him. I would’ve acted the same way if a girl kissed me without me having to pay her.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

“Alright, enough already, lady!” Dr. Elasha snapped, seemingly already tired of Mira’s complaining.

Imagine what I have to go through…

“I’ve already apologized a million times. Just tell me what the issue is so you can be on your way!” the doctor continued. I guess she was already tired of us and just wanted to know why we were there so she could get us out of there ASAP.

Mira huffed, then turned to Caelen, who was still looking stupid with the same goofy grin on his face. “And you look like you’re enjoying yourself. Does the fact that this woman violated you even bother you?” Mira huffed as she crossed her arms, looking very annoyed.

“H-huh?” Caelen snapped out of his lust-induced daze. However, it seemed like he hadn’t even been listening to what Mira had been saying.

“Dad, you’re gonna make Mom even more mad,” Liora chuckled.

Mira, on the other hand, didn’t seem so amused. Though surprisingly, she didn’t say anything. She only shook her head in frustration. I was loving every second of it. Mira was finally getting what she deserved.

“For the last time, what’s your issue?” Dr. Elasha asked, annoyed. We had been wasting her time, so it was understandable.

Mira turned and faced the doctor. She looked down at her, annoyed, before putting it aside and saying, “Well, Doctor, before that little stunt you pulled, you were told multiple times that we’re here for my son. He hurt himself while playing with mana.”

Dr. Elasha, having finished healing herself, stood up. She stood in front of Liora, who was holding me, and peered into my eyes. I backed up instinctively, as this was really freaking me out.

“Now, how exactly did you hurt yourself, little one?” she asked.

I looked away from her and towards the ground. Up to that point, I hadn’t really spoken to anyone who wasn’t “related” to me in this life. I didn’t know how someone would act towards me or what they would think of me. It was way easier to speak to people in my past life when I could buy their kindness. But if I wasn’t paying people to like me, how would I be able to speak? I barely even spoke to the people in my so-called family.

“Well? Go on, answer me,” the doctor urged.

“Stop being difficult, Reyly, she’s asking you a question,” Mira said, glaring at me. She was already pissed off about the kiss, and what I was doing wasn’t helping.

I hesitated for a moment. On one hand, I didn’t want to talk to her. But on the other hand, I didn’t want to get hit by Mira.

What’s worse, risking being insulted and humiliated by this elf woman, or getting hit by the madwoman Mira?

I knew which one I’d rather deal with.

  “I-I…I hurt m-myself.”

“Yeah, obviously. We already established that. Now tell me how.”

Tears began to well in my eyes uncontrollably. I partly knew why, of course. This woman was speaking to me like I was an idiot. So what if I just restated what was already said? Didn’t she know how much it took for me to even get those words out?

  This woman’s worse than Mira…

  “I-I was using m-magic. I-I made myself s-stronger…but I…h-hurt my hand…on the w-wall.”

I stuttered through my explanation. It was so humiliating. It was so much easier to talk to Caelen, Mira, and Liora. At that moment, I wished that I had my previous fortune. If I did, I could save myself the embarrassment and pay her to forget the whole thing.

“Alright, I think I can decipher what you’re trying to say through all of that stuttering,” Dr. Elasha said.

  I swear, when I’m done with Mira, you’re next…

The elven doctor took my hand, which I tried to pull away to no avail, and began to examine it. Liora, who was still holding me, watched on as the doctor did her thing. Caelen and Mira also joined in. It was awkward being surrounded by everyone with all eyes on me.

“Alright, let’s see…” Suddenly, the doctor’s eyes changed from a light blue to a milky white. I wondered what she was doing. Although it was a bit shocking, out of all the things I had experienced in the past couple of days, it was probably the least surprising.

She analyzed my hand, flipping it over and taking it all in. She seemed to be looking into it, as if she had some sort of X-ray vision.

“Well, it doesn’t look too bad. Just a minor fracture. Nothing a decent healing spell can’t fix. Though, Mom and Dad, you shouldn’t be showing him how to do magic. It’s not safe for children as young as him.”

“Actually, for your information, we didn’t teach him a thing. He did it all on his own. And also, Doctor, I don’t appreciate you telling me h-” Mira was, thankfully, cut off by Caelen.

“Dr. Elasha, what she’s trying to say is that our son, Reylus, hurt himself by trying to copy what he saw us doing. We didn’t teach him anything.”

“I see…and little one, you mentioned that you made yourself strong. Do you mean augmentation? Surely that was not the case. Your core should barely be able to gather mana at your age. What are you, two? Three? You wouldn’t have enough mana to augment yourself in the first place.”

So not only did the woman embarrass me, but now she was also downplaying my talent. What did she mean I shouldn’t be able to gather mana? Maybe regular children in this world weren’t able to, but a prodigy like me was different.

“I-I did do it,” I stated simply while staring at the ground as I had been the entire time.

“Well, that’s not possible. I mean, even elves can’t utilize mana until around five years old. Look, there’s no need to lie. Just admit what really happened. I’m sure your parents won’t be too mad,” Doctor Elasha said before glancing at Mira.

“Well, one of them at least,” she added.

Now she was starting to piss me off even more. Accusing me of lying about my talent was absurd. I considered moving her up on my list of people to exact revenge on when I got stronger.

  “I’m not lying.”

“Alright, enough of this. I’ll just check your core myself. There’s no use in trying to hide it; my eyes can see all, little one.”

The elven doctor’s eyes then shifted from a milky white to a vibrant purple. I assumed that it was her eyes changing modes or something. Though I didn’t know what mode they were currently in, I was curious.

She then peered straight into my chest. She stared into me for a bit, seemingly analyzing my core, before her jaw suddenly went slack. She stayed peering into my sternum, slack-jawed for a moment before finally speaking.

  “I-I guess you weren’t lying.”
