The Curse Is Our Fate!

  Seventeen-year-old Saaniya

She looked around more carefully—then spotted Anamika, curled up tightly in a small corner beside the wardrobe, hiding her face in her arms.

Seeing her like that, Saaniya said, “Come out! Why are you hiding like a mouse over there?!”

Anamika slowly lifted her eyes and looked at Saaniya. She stepped out of the corner. As she stood up, the stains on her clothes became visible—splashes of blood. Her face, too, bore dried traces of it.

  But…it wasn’t her blood.

Even after seeing her in that state, Saaniya’s expression remained blank.

Without a flicker of emotion in her voice, still staring at Anamika, she said, “Take a shower and soak your clothes in soapy water… or the stains won’t come out easily.”

Hearing this, anger flared in Anamika’s swollen, tearful eyes.

She screamed, “You care about these stains?! But what about the ones that have left a mark on my destiny… on my hands, on my memories, on my identity—what about those bloodstains?!”

Saaniya sat down on the bed and replied, “Those…” (a faint, strange smile curved her lips) “Those… we can’t erase. No matter how much we want to. And remember… those splashes of blood you think are on your memories—they passed through me first. If you call yourself a sinner… then don’t forget, I sinned before you did.”

Anamika, lips trembling and tears in her eyes, said softly, “Then let’s go… let’s run away from here! Far, far away… somewhere she can never follow us!”

Saaniya laid back on the bed, looking at the ceiling. “Can you… can you carry the weight of my death

Anamika froze. “What… what are you saying?!”

To that, Saaniya replied, “No matter how much you try… or how much I try… or even if we both do—we can never escape her. She’ll find us.

She’ll never kill you—because your life is her lifeline.

She’s that same demon whose soul is locked inside a bird… a bird she keeps caged. And that bird… is you.

If you try to go far from her, she’ll destroy everything and everyone that gave you the strength to run.

Even if you try to kill yourself, the result will be the same.

No matter what you do… there will be blood— on your soul, your fate, and your memories.”

Anamika collapsed to the ground, her legs numb as if they didn’t exist.

Muttering to herself, she said, “So… there’s no way out?! I can’t run… I can’t die… Then how—how do I stop others from dying because of me?!”

Saaniya stood up, staring at a painting hung on the wall.

“The ones you believe in… she won’t touch them—not until you’re still within her reach because of them.

But the ones who believe in you—she’ll keep killing them.

Because she’s afraid they might take you away from her.”

Anamika’s eyes suddenly lit up. She rushed to Saaniya and said, “We can do this! Yes… we can!”

Saaniya knelt down, gently touching Anamika’s withered face and asked, “What are you thinking? What do you want to do?”

Anamika replied, “I’m cursed… Anyone who comes near me ends up dead.

Only I know this… But now—now the world should know.

Fear is greater than love. Help me plant fear… Against me.”

In that moment, there was a fire in Anamika’s eyes—one that Saaniya still remembers, even after all these years.

  Years had passed since then.

But now—drunk, stumbling on a deserted road—Saaniya remembered every single detail as if it happened yesterday.

And while recalling it all, she laughed to herself and said, “We thought… we thought that after escaping that woman, life would be beautiful again.

But… I was wrong. Before leaving, she poured so much blood into our memories… that even when we try, we can’t live in the present.

We did everything… We pushed people away… Made them hate us… So they wouldn’t come near us… Wouldn’t come near you.

But it was all pointless. We were wrong, Anamika… True love is madness—it’s stronger than fear.

He loved you… and lost everything. Yet he still smiled… Still found joy in tiny little moments.

And here we are… We’re still living under the weight of guilt.”

Images from the past came rushing back—of Anamika screaming and sobbing…

Saaniya laughed… but the truth was—her pain and guilt had crossed every boundary.

  She couldn’t even cry anymore.

MeanwhileThe weather had suddenly turned gloomy—she stood in her balcony, staring at the sky.

She whispered, “Come back soon, Saaniya… I’m scared. I need to see you… I need to know you’re okay.”

She dialed Saaniya’s number—but the phone lay forgotten on a hotel table, unnoticed by anyone.

  Anamika grew more anxious.

She didn’t know who else might be with Saaniya at the school reunion party—

because after school, she had never stayed in touch with anyone.

And Saaniya never told her… that Aditya and Aniket were her old classmates— or why they had been so important.

Anamika had never dared to look up at anyone—fearing that even one glance might curse them.

That’s why… even after meeting Aditya again, she didn’t recognize him— Didn’t remember that he was the same boy… who had confessed his love to her six years ago.

  d… and to live freely?
