Volume 0, ch 1. The Awakening
POV: Amit Kumar
"The view from here... it’s something else entirely," I said aloud, my voice carrying over the edge. I was perched atop a small hill, maybe a hundred meters high, looking out over the horizon.
"Especially in this February chill," a soft voice replied from beside me. "Soaking in the shimmering sunlight to warm up feels like a different kind of bliss."
I looked at the girl standing next to me. She was striking—nearly six feet tall with an olive complexion and dark hair that cascaded down to her waist. Her athletic physique was a testament to her grace. She was my fiancée, Maya.
"You’re right about that," I agreed, nodding.
We had just returned to our village after finishing our 12th-grade board exams in the city. The grueling months of preparation had kept us away from home for far too long. Now, breathing in the pure, untainted air of the countryside while taking in this scenery felt like a luxury.
I pushed myself up from the stone I was sitting on and took a slow, panoramic look around. Behind us lay an endless expanse of wilderness—dense forests and rolling mountains dominated by towering ancient trees. It made sense; I lived in Jharkhand, one of the most heavily forested regions in India.
Below us, nestled amidst the dense greenery, several villages were visible in the distance. These weren't the stereotypical clusters of mud huts or slums; this was a modern rural landscape. Concrete buildings and contemporary architecture dotted the horizon, equipped with every modern amenity. I could even spot my own two-story house from here, barely a hundred and fifty meters away.
At eighteen, I stood a full six feet tall, sharing the same olive skin tone as Maya.
"How much longer are we going to stay up here?" I asked, scratching my beard thoughtfully. "Let’s head back. Mummy and Papa must be waiting."
I turned to Maya as I spoke. She nodded in agreement, but for a fleeting moment, I caught a shadow of sadness in her eyes. I understood why.
My mind drifted back to eight months ago, when we first met at my uncle’s wedding. It was only later that I discovered she was the niece of my soon-to-be aunt. We had barely started talking—just the beginning of a relationship—when she told her parents about us. In a whirlwind of events, our engagement was finalized alongside my uncle's wedding.
But tragedy struck barely two months later. While Maya’s family was traveling together, they met with a horrific car accident. Her parents and her brother—all of them—perished in that crash.
Since then, she has lived with us, studying and growing up by my side. I shook the heavy thoughts from my mind, trying to push the past away.
Just then, I spotted three figures at the base of the hill. I recognized them instantly: my younger brother, Ajit, and my two closest friends, Ankit and Rocky. Ajit and Rocky were both sixteen, about two years younger than me, standing at five-foot-six with the same olive complexion. Ankit was seventeen, slightly taller at five-foot-nine, with a deeper, duskier skin tone. We had grown up together, thick as thieves since childhood.
"Hey! You lovebirds!" they shouted, their voices echoing up the slope. "Forget your friends the moment you step into the village, did you?"
I was about to shout back a retort, but the words died in my throat. Something shifted in the air. A strange light flickered in my vision, accompanied by a sound that didn't come from the world around me, but from inside my head.
Before I could process the words, the world turned pitch black. Darkness swallowed the hills, the trees, and Maya.
When I finally forced my eyes open, I wasn't on the hilltop anymore. I was standing in the middle of a vast, empty plain, stretching at least a hundred meters in every direction. I spun around, frantically searching for a familiar face, but I was utterly alone.
A booming voice suddenly resonated across the void, and a translucent screen shimmered into existence before my eyes.
"Listen, denizens of this universe. Invaders are descending upon your world. It is now your duty to defend your existence."
"To survive, you will need power. I am here to facilitate that growth."
"From this moment forth, status—whether king or beggar, rich or poor—means nothing. Your future is in your own hands. Will you be a King who rules, or a follower who obeys?"
"You are granted a seven-day Training Period. During this time, the effectiveness of all training will be magnified tenfold (10x). Use this golden opportunity wisely. We shall meet again.”
I stood there, paralyzed, my mind reeling in shock. I couldn't believe what was unfolding before my eyes. A chilling thought struck me—was this exactly like the web novels and stories I had read? Was our universe truly being invaded, and were we expected to fight back?
As I recalled those fictional tales, my breath hitched. I never wanted this to be real. Those stories were thrilling on a screen or a page, but facing such a brutal reality was a nightmare I wasn't prepared for.
Before I could spiral further into panic, another screen flickered into existence.
Without a second thought, I tapped [Warrior]. From everything I knew about these stories, I knew I had to be strong. Strength was the only way I could protect my family. The only way I could keep Maya safe.
Immediately, a status window overlaid my vision:
I hesitated for a heartbeat. I didn't fully understand what these 'Chakras' were, but in this new world, hesitation felt like a death sentence. I pressed [Yes].
The moment I made the choice, a violent transformation erupted within me. It started as a faint hum but rapidly surged into a searing heat. I felt distinct points of warmth ignite along my spine: at the very base, near my lower and upper abdomen, in the center of my chest, at my throat, between my eyebrows, and finally, at the crown of my head.
"What is... what is happening?" I gasped.
As I struggled to make sense of the sensation, my perspective suddenly shifted. It was an out-of-body experience; I felt as though I were hovering outside myself, looking down at my own physical form. Within that shell, I could see seven distinct points of light glowing like miniature stars. As I focused on them, I realized they aligned perfectly with the spots where the heat was most intense.
I watched in silent awe as the seven points of light began to stir. Slowly at first, then with increasing speed, they started to rotate. They expanded into glowing vortices, spinning with such intensity that they looked like miniature celestial storms contained within my body.
As the frantic motion settled into a steady, rhythmic hum, I realized each vortex had grown to the size of a cricket ball. I stood there, mentally suspended, staring at the incredible sight of these seven swirling cores.
The system had called these 'Chakras,' and now I could see why. The one at the very base of my spine glowed with a deep, primal Red. Above it, near my lower abdomen, the second pulsed with a vibrant Orange. Higher still, the third shone a brilliant Yellow, followed by a lush Green at the center of my chest. My throat held a serene Blue vortex, while the point between my eyebrows radiated a piercing Indigo. Finally, at the very crown of my head, the seventh chakra shimmered in a majestic Violet.
Before I could wrap my mind around the rainbow of power within me, the world plunged into darkness again. My vision cut out, leaving me momentarily blind to the empty plains.
When I finally opened my eyes, I found myself lying flat on the ground where I had been standing. As I pushed myself up, a wave of discomfort washed over me. I looked down at my hands and legs, confused. My shirt and trousers were straining against my skin, the fabric digging in painfully as if the clothes had shrunk.
But as I looked closer, I realized the truth—my clothes hadn't shrunk. I had grown. My entire frame had expanded, filled with a newfound, raw power.
As I stared at my transformed body in disbelief, a new system notification chimed in my mind.
I was still trying to wrap my head around the previous notifications when another screen flashed before me, demanding my attention.
So, I have to choose a Class now. Just like the novels I used to love. Despite the chaos, a small spark of excitement flickered within me. I began to weigh my options. My mind drifted back to my childhood—memories of crafting makeshift bows from tree branches and playing in the woods. Without further hesitation, I tapped [Archer].
Immediately, another notification appeared, and the System’s voice echoed in my mind once more.
I blinked, momentarily confused. "Create... my Astra?"
The text on the screen pulsed in sync with the mechanical voice.
Following the System's instructions, I closed my eyes and began to visualize. I pictured a formidable six-foot bow, its limbs curved into a sharp, aggressive 'M' shape. I imagined the tips tapering into lethal, recurved points, sleek and intimidating. I even focused on the crystalline string, imagining its tension and strength.
As the image solidified in my mind, the System’s voice resonated again, as if speaking directly to my soul. "Is this the form you desire?"
"Yes," I replied internally.
The moment I confirmed, I felt a familiar surge of heat erupt from the base of my spine. It was the Prana from my Earth Chakra. I could feel the energy crawling upward like liquid fire, passing through each gate. It surged from the Earth Chakra into the Water, then through the Fire, Air, and Space Chakras. It paused momentarily at my Third Eye, saturating it with intent, before finally erupting into my Crown Chakra at the very top of my head.
Then, my vision went black once more. I had no idea what was happening to my body, but I could feel that intense heat radiating from my Crown Chakra, as if the energy were physically pouring out of my forehead.
When my sight finally returned, I stood there, utterly mesmerized. I couldn’t process what was hovering before me.
Suspended horizontally in the air was a bow—exactly as I had visualized. It was breathtakingly beautiful, forged from a shimmering silver material that seemed to catch the non-existent light. Intricate, multi-colored lines etched themselves across its surface like veins of power. As I looked closer, I saw circular marks embedded in the bow’s frame. They were identical to the Chakras within my own body, as if my internal energy centers had manifested as physical sigils on the weapon. However, the seventh Crown Chakra mark was nowhere to be seen.
The others—Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Indigo—were scattered across the weapon, some near the tips and others toward the riser.
When I finally reached out and grasped the bow, it felt as solid as cold iron, yet strangely familiar. It didn't feel like an external object; it felt like an extension of my own soul.
Immediately, a flood of knowledge surged into my mind, imprinting itself onto my consciousness.
This Astra is forged from the five primordial elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space. Space acts as the binding force, holding the other elements in perfect harmony. Through the influence of the Third Eye, the bow has attained a nascent consciousness, and it was the Crown Chakra that fused these disparate forces into a singular, physical form.
I was still reeling from this mental download when another notification appeared. I stood there, stunned; this was no longer just a feeling—it was exactly like a LitRPG novel or a video game.
So many racial abilities! If my race is listed as 'Human' and I have all these skills, it implies the existence of other races. This isn't just about a universe of 'Seven Cosmic Chakras' cultivation; the system specifically highlighted my race.
My first priority was to test [Elemental Manipulation], but I had no idea where to start. I closed my eyes, searching for a spark within me, waiting for my body to show me the way. Fire, I thought. Let there be fire in my hand.
Instantly, I felt a stir. A surge of energy erupted from my Yellow Chakra—the Fire Chakra—and raced upward toward my Crown Chakra. From there, the heat flowed down into my palm. I watched in awe as a small flicker, no larger than a candle flame, ignited in the center of my hand. I was stunned. It was real.
I need it to be bigger, I thought, pushing my intent. The flame responded, swelling until it was the size of my entire hand. Remembering the novels I’d read, I tried to condense it into a 'Fireball.' The flames swirled into a compact, glowing sphere. With a flick of my wrist, I hurled it at the ground, expecting an explosion.
Instead, the moment it left my hand, the flame flickered and vanished into thin air, as if the wind had simply swept it away.
I stood there, confused. Then, the description from the system flashed in my mind: I could manifest elements, but their true power was meant to be channeled through my Astra. I couldn't simply throw them like a mage.
I decided to try the other attribute of the Fire Chakra: Strength. This time, I focused on enhancing my own body. The Prana from the Yellow Chakra began to circulate through my muscles. A comfortable warmth spread through me, and suddenly, I felt an incredible surge of power—as if I could lift a mountain with my bare hands.
[Prana of Petals Remaining: 95%]
I realized then that this power wasn't infinite. Every move, every enhancement, was fueled by my Prana of Petals, which stood at a base value of 2 in my status window. I had to be careful; in this world, running out of energy meant becoming defenseless.
Next, I turned my attention to the Water element. Following the same mental process, I drew Prana from my Water Chakra. Droplets of moisture began to coalesce in the air above my palm, slowly merging into a shimmering sphere of water. The moment I cut off the flow of Prana, the sphere destabilized and evaporated into nothingness. I tried to trigger its second attribute—Recovery—but since I wasn't injured, the energy simply hummed under my skin without effect.
[Prana of Petals: 92%]
Then, I focused on Earth. As I channeled Prana from my Earth Chakra, a thin layer of fine dust and grit materialized over my hands. Deciding to test its second attribute—Defense—I waited for a visible shield, but nothing appeared. However, when I touched my arm, I realized my skin had become unnaturally dense, as if my muscles were reinforced with stone. It was a passive reinforcement.
This is perfect, I thought. If someone ambushes me, this passive protection might save my life before I even have a chance to react.
[Prana of Petals: 90%]
I moved on to the Air element. A miniature vortex began to swirl in my palm, cold and sharp. When I activated its second attribute : Dexterity, my perception of the world suddenly shifted. Everything around me slowed down; as I moved my hand in front of my face, it felt as though I was watching a slow-motion film. I tried to sprint, but my body felt sluggish despite the heightened awareness. I quickly realized this wasn't a speed boost; it was an increase in Perception and Muscle Reflexes, sharpening my reactions rather than my raw velocity.
[Prana of Petals: 85%]
A new idea struck me. What if I combined them? I activated both Fire Prana (for Strength) and Air Prana (for Reflexes) simultaneously. As I took off running, the difference was night and day. With the raw power of Fire pushing my legs and the heightened perception of Air allowing me to navigate, I felt like a blur. The scenery rushed past, but I could see every detail with crystalline clarity. It was exhilarating—I finally understood that to truly master this power, I would have to learn how to weave different Pranas together.
