9 - The Mayors Request

For the Faes amusement he got the barkeep to juggle some coins, at first the barkeep dropped a coin every few seconds, this would last for the next hour, until they managed to actually get used to juggling. This probably wasn’t helped by the speed insisted upon by the Faes compulsion. With the juggling started the Fae resumed singing.

The Mayor introduced himself as the man in charge,

True power doesn’t need to be visibly large,

How could he help our Hero today,

Just share the details and he’ll show the way,

Making sure the Town doesn’t descend to hell,

Is his vocation and he does it incredibly well,

The Hero is looking for a way to get back to lands known,

Yet every question he asks his hopes are blown,

Not knowing which direction to walk,

Feels more oppressive with each person that does talk,

Once again the libraries maps get a mention,

A lack of money for access to that section,

So our Hero asks if there is any work he can do,

To cover the amount of the libraries due,

Conversation turns to a Quarry a half day march East,

Where the dead roam and upon life they feast,

Clearing the place has a large bounty of gold,

Upon this idea with his new skills the Hero was sold,

The Mayor warns him to be silent and careful,

To be precise and take his time with each pull,

Overconfidence will not give good results,

As it fatally reveals all your faults,

The Mayor offers our Hero a bed to rest before going,

To the horrors within the Quarry that are growing,

In the morning rested and fed, our Hero leaves,

On his way he admires how the world breathes,

The trees swaying and leaves rustling,

Birds and small creatures are constantly bustling,

The Town is clearly good for this place,

I pulse of energy of unparalleled grace,

The day was peaceful, and a joy to see,

  Everything living their life free,

This lasted for quite a few hours,

Until the disappearance of the flowers,

The air turned thick and sickly,

And so his pace increased quickly,

It wasn’t long before he found his first skeleton,

The evidence of a fight the victim had not won,

Not all of its flesh had fallen down,

Some contained by the ripped gown,

Surrounded by an aura that induced fear,

His bodies desire to run was quite clear,

That was until his swords harp sang,

Dispelling the fears hold with a simple clang,

And our Hero drew his sword ready to fight,

Quickly making sure this was the only one in sight,

With a single slash he knocked off an arm,

Yet this didn’t seem to stop it from causing harm,

Its other arm gripped the Heros shoulder,

With strength great enough to break a boulder,

While his toughened skin did not break,

Pain still bloomed, punctuating his mistake,

He used a kangaroo thrust which sent his foe back,

It was time to end this before damage started to stack,

  The Skeleton approached once more,

Along the path its feet tore,

An over head strike hitting its skull,

Off it flew with clunk most dull,

While the body crumpled to the floor,

The Skull continued to wiggle some more,

The Hero crushed the skull with his heel,

And finally everything here was now still,

It was clear that the head was the place to hit,

To put them back into their unholy pit

With this knowledge gained he knew he could win,

He’ll send all the undead into the bin,

The Quarry waited to be cleared,

  Of those that mortals feared,

With the Harps power to guide him,

He felt failures chances were slim,

So with confidence he did stride,

Towards the secrets the Quarry did hide.

The ladies focused their senses on the unseen,

To find what information they could glean,

They found tiny traces of magic they didn’t know,

On their faces the confusion did show,

This would take some time to unravel,

Before they could drop judgements gavel.
