[1] A Trembling Silence
The room had gone still. Sasha’s voice hung like a ghost, her vision of the future painting dread across every face. Daniel’s throat felt dry, Tom scratched the back of his head nervously, and Jackson’s usual grin had disappeared.
Then Victor spoke, his voice smooth but firm.
“Visions are tricky things,” he said, folding his hands behind his back. “That orb was born from chaos. Illusions, tricks… who’s to say what you saw wasn’t simply its echo?”
Leo chuckled lightly, arms crossed, his golden eyes flashing.
“Exactly. Fear spreads faster than fire. Don’t let one glimpse of ‘doom’ chain you. The future bends to strength.”
His aura flared just enough to rattle the windows, and yet… the tension eased.
Still, Sasha’s eyes lingered downward. No… that wasn’t an illusion. I know what I saw.
Whispers crept through the dormitory halls:
“They’re heroes.”
“No, they’re the cause of all this!”
The air of doubt remained, but the leaders had kept the cracks from shattering—at least for now.
[2] The Astronaut at Sunrise
The next morning, golden light spilled over the mountain ridge near the dorms. Noir stood alone, his hands glowing faintly as a rift shimmered open and shut before him.
“Portal magic, huh…” he muttered, sweat dripping down his chin. “Never thought this could cut like a blade and shield like armor.”
He swiped his hand sideways—space folded, a slash carving a boulder in half. With a flick, a shimmering barrier wrapped around his body.
“Hah. Offensive, defensive… I guess being an astronaut wasn’t enough adventure.”
A yawn echoed from behind. Daniel stumbled in with Tom and Jackson, hair sticking in every direction.
Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
“You guys started training this early?!” Daniel groaned.
Tom smirked. “We’re late because you take a century to get out of bed.”
Jackson added, “Yeah, Dan, you’ve got the spirit of a hero… but the alarm clock of a corpse.”
“Shut up.” Daniel grumbled, but his lips twitched into a smile.
[3] The Council’s Burden
Elsewhere, the grand chamber of the Academy Council echoed with silence as Victor sat before Rupert Stone, the stern-faced headmaster, and the other professors.
Victor’s tone was calm, but his words sharp.
“Four days since the orb appeared. Four days since humanity unlocked this… curse. Some can’t control it. Some have killed. And creatures from that rift? They won’t wait for us to learn.”
Stone’s gaze hardened. “And your proposal?”
Victor leaned forward, his eyes unreadable.
“Acceptance. Training. Unity. This is not the world we knew, and pretending otherwise will kill us. We must tell humanity the truth. Power has been given to us—whether by gods or demons doesn’t matter. The choice is ours: paradise or hell.”
The chamber held its breath. Then one by one, heads nodded. Orders flew. Messengers prepared to spread the word across nations.
The world was about to change—officially.
[4] The Lone Veteran
Far away, on a wasteland cracked by storms, Leo stood shirtless, his fists wrapped in tattered bandages.
Each punch split the clouds above. Each step fractured the ground beneath.
BOOM—a crater formed with one strike, dust rising like thunder.
“If only I had been strong then…” His voice cracked with fury, another punch shattering stone into dust.
“I won’t be weak again. Not now. Not ever.”
The land trembled with every blow, the world itself bearing witness to his vow.
[5] The Mind Awakens
Back at the mountains, Daniel sat cross-legged, sweat dripping as he tried to focus.
“Breathe in… control your thoughts… control your will…”
His aura flared wildly, then steadied. And then—he lifted, his body floating inches off the ground.
“Holy crap, he’s flying!” Tom shouted.
Jackson nearly fell over laughing. “Bro skipped all the beginner tutorials and unlocked the cheat code!”
Daniel’s eyes shot open. “I-I’m actually doing it!”
Then his concentration slipped—THUD!—he crashed into the dirt.
“Ow…” he groaned.
Tom grinned. “Congratulations, Dan. You’ve invented face-first landing magic.”
Even Daniel laughed, despite the bruise forming on his forehead.
[6] The Rift Opens
Later that day, the group gathered in the training field. Selena, Sasha, Noir, Leo, Victor, Daniel, Tom, and Jackson—eight souls standing together under the open sky.
The air suddenly split. A tear in space itself opened, shimmering black and crimson.
Then came the voice. Deep. Ancient. Piercing into their skulls.
“This is the dawn of a new era. History repeats. The Great War begins. Live… or die. Protect your universe, or fall with it. Among you lies the chosen one.”
The rift sealed shut. Silence crushed them.
Everyone’s eyes drifted toward Daniel. His chest tightened, heat rising to his face.
“W-wait… me?!”
Leo stepped forward, his presence overwhelming, but his words steady.
“Then it’s decided. You’ll train harder than anyone. From this day forward… you’re our leader.”
Daniel froze, his heart pounding.
“…H-HUH?!”
The team stared at him. No one laughed. No one disagreed.
The path of destiny had been set.
