The car stopped in what could be described as a luxurious building , but heavily militarized . As they got out of the car, Joy and the pets in tandem, Goji could not help but look around . From what she saw, this was a hotel requisitioned by the military and where a significant portion of hunters stayed when not deployed . It also served as a center of information for the citizens and was where civil officials stayed too . They moved through a bustling first floor as they made their way to the elevator, and Joy pced what Goji could see at a pretty high level . The sounds of the working people soon faded behind them as the group of two girls and pets waited for the elevator to stop. After a while in silence, the elevator halted on a high floor, and Joy guided Goji to an apartment. As they entered, Goji could not help but be surprised by the interior . In one word : luxurious . A big TV caught her eye , along with a rge kitchen and, behind a staircase, a second floor where the bedroom was. The couches looked soft, and the table looked like something from an old castle. She could see all of the city from the windows. While she investigated the apartment, the two dogs, three kittens, one rabbit, and one lizard had already made themselves at home, lying on the couches and carpet, enjoying the soft textures. Before Goji y in bed, she quickly walked over to Joy, who was standing in the kitchen, having taken cold water from the fridge.
-Hey ... Joy? What is this? I practically know nothing about humans and their homes, but after all the reading I did, it's pretty obvious this is luxurious . Can you expin it to me? *Goji said with a strained smile at the luxurious home she had been given.*
-Well, for the expnation, we should sit, no? *Joy replied as she already sat on a stool around the kitchen isnd, with Goji quick to follow* So, in your contract it says that the U.S. Army will take care of your necessities in exchange for your services, right ? Well, those services will include battles through the different ongoing fronts, like an emergency mobile unit. We will send you on what could be considered dangerous missions where our troops are being defeated in hopes you can turn the tides, with the support of the standing troops and teams of hunters at your back . We have learned that a heavy hitter can change entire outcomes, as seen in Cairo, Egypt , and the U.S. Army sees you as one possible heavy hitter. That's why you are treated with luxuries, like lobster before being deployed but constantly. *Joy expined simply enough that it was easy to digest and didn't go off on tangents, something Goji appreciated.*
-That's very helpful,Joy.Anything else I should know? So i can be prepared?
-Well, you will have to attend some military meetings and offer advice, as you have won against a powerful monster that wiped out practically all hunters in Hawaii. But I will be with you to help you with the politics and stuff, and if you are deemed suitable, maybe they will use your image for propaganda, you know? Some posters , some interviews, maybe meetings with famous people . After all, people need someone to look up to, and we are in L.A. , Hollywood- the biggest propaganda machine is beside us *Joy said too calmly as she finished her gss of water.* Oh , and I need to teach you how to use technology-phones, computers, and other things . It's basic stuff you need to learn . In fact, we will start now. *Without missing a beat, she took out her phone and sent a message* Done ; they should bring a phone and a ptop here for your use . Don't worry, I will teach you.
-Do I have a say in this? *Goji asked, a bit too stunned to resist.*
-Theoretically yes, you have a say in this, but because it's essential to your life in human civilization , I have too many arguments to convince you, so I advise you to desist from further opposition.
With the logical sound of Joy's voice, and after thinking for a moment, Goji just nodded in agreement. After all, it was something she needed to know for the betterment of her life and to avoid making a fool of herself. After a while , a man knocked on the door, and Joy received the electronics that she had ordered. By this point , it was te at night, and Goji could only deem the experience stressful . She didn't know phones were so weak that they could snap with just a bit of force. She also didn't realize she was so clumsy with her fingers when using electronics. Hours and two phones ter, she was finally deemed good enough by Joy, who herself was tired of teaching her how to use it. After a short goodbye , she left Goji 's apartment for her own on a lower floor. Now, Goji stood alone in this luxurious apartment . Her pets were resting quietly in the living room on top of the couches as she moved quietly toward the second floor and y in bed. She felt weird. From the moment she nded in this world, there was always some danger, some objective, enemies to fight. Now, in this secure location, she felt strange . When she was in her universe, she didn't feel like this. In fact, she didn't feel much besides rage, irritation, pain, or simply void . These new feelings that had come with her new body , or from the title of Last of Her Species, made her think more. In this silence , she could no longer escape her thoughts . Would she someday go back? Should she pay attention to what the title Last of Her Species had given her... and maybe use it? How does one make friends in the first pce? Could she just ignore all of this and try to be like in her original universe - a force of nature, feared and without sentiments? To this st question, she could answer that from the moment she was transformed into this form, there was no coming back to what she originally was .
