Interlude continued

Whisper quietly sat at her breakfast table sipping her tea. She stared off into nothingness as her thoughts were directed inward. A new Nephilim had been born. Who, she did not know yet. He had been very guarded when she reached out to him in his dreams. Even though she tried to enter his mind, she was rebuffed. Some skill or object kept her out. This was good for him, but just made more work for her. It didn’t matter though; she would find out. She always did. Hopefully, it would happen before he died.

She had imparted the nature of the Nephilim to him in the dream vision. Showing examples of Nephilim at different stages of their life.

Ascension, the acts required to become truly immortal. Nephilim rarely reach this stage, but when they do, they become unstoppable.

The time of crisis. Every Nephilim faces a time when they are sick of their path and leave it behind. When they do, they no longer progress and if they don’t return to their path, eventually die. Fully half of all Nephilim don’t return, but those that do become even more powerful.

Finally, the true beginning of Nephilim-hood. Completing their quest and getting their Path. The Path they would follow for the rest of their mortal life ending in either death or ascension. The path was violent and unforgiving. Most Nephilim failed their paths and eventually died. Whisper had watched over countless Nephilim fail their paths. The lucky ones died, while the unlucky went on to decades or even centuries of knowing they fail and falling into decrepitude. The Path was everything to a Nephilim.

And yet. This new Nephilim seemed to deny any obligations to a Nephilim’s Path. He looked upon the examples as if they did not pertain to him, nor did he feel he had any requirements to follow in their footsteps. There was something special about him. Whether good special or bad special, she would have to wait to find out.

Whisper stood up and walked out the front door of her house. A vast vista of stars surrounded her small house. Seven stars encircled her house, each moving in a different orbit that never crossed the others. There was no ground, no sky. It was only her house and space.

Whisper didn’t need to breathe or eat or drink. She had ascended long ago. Many called her the Nephilim’s private god, but that was nonsense. She had rejected that title because she wanted no strings attached to her. She did not interfere in a Nephilim’s Path, most of the time. She did not reward, nor did she punish. She simply observed.

Whisper called a spirit to her. The 50-foot-tall spirit bowed to her. “How may I serve you, Whisper of the Seven Stars.”

“Betelgeuse. I want you to find someone for me. There is a new Nephilim. He came to being on a human world, heavy in magic, and filled with monsters. Take your people and send them out in search. I need you to find this one. He has not yet reached his path, and I need to guide him until he does. Find him. Find him quickly and return to me. Don’t interfere with him. I will go to him after you find him. Now go and return quickly with the knowledge I seek.” Whisper dismissed the towering spirit.

Betelgeuse left Whisper’s presence by teleporting to his palace. Betelgeuse was the leader of The People, as they called themselves. He called his myriad servants together. Spirits of all shapes and sizes, ranging from small marble shaped, to gigantic ship shaped beasts. Colors never seen in the mortal plane were seen. All his spirits came, each and every one.

“The People have been tasked to find a new Nephilim by Whisper of the Seven Stars. He is on a heavy magic world that is ruled by humans. We cannot fail in this task. The last time a spirit realm failed Whisper, the realm was destroyed. We will not let this happen to us. Everyone is to stop what they are doing and focus on this task and this task alone.”

A lone voice asked “In all the cosmos where do we look? We need a starting place.”

Betelgeuse looked to the stars, raised his hands up in pleading. “Give me a sign o’ magnificent one. A sign to aid us in fulfilling your task. We beseech you.”

A quiet voice answered. “He is located in the Trivaliar Universe. The largest galaxy. No more can I give you.”

Everyone heard the voice. The task just went from impossible to nearly impossible, when meant they had a chance.

“Mischom, move the palace to the Trivaliar universe’s largest galaxy. When we arrive, I expect everyone to start the search. Prevat will coordinate the search activities. We must succeed or we will all be destroyed.”

Spirits moved to prepare for the search. Everybody had something to do and went about doing it.
