The doors groaned shut behind them, sealing out the twilight haze of the Dimming Wilds. A damp, earthy scent filled Kaiden's nose, thick with mildew and age. The temple stretched before them in ruinous splendor: shattered glass mosaics, twisted vinework, and light-drenched statues with mold around the surface. No natural sun illuminated the space, just the steady pulse of bioluminescence in pale blue veins that lined the walls.

“Looks like this one's designed to mess with skill chains,” Ironstride muttered, eyeing her HUD.
“I’ll manage,” Kaiden said. Though even as he said it, the Photosphere again, like it knew something before he did.
Their boots echoed softly against the cracked stone tiles as they moved deeper in. Roots had split the floor in jagged trails, and strange fungal spires rose like frozen lightning from corners. A flicker of movement to their left sent all three to battle stance.
Four creatures lurched forward from the shadows. Once humanoid, their bodies were now overgrown with sunstone-plated bark and brittle flowers that wilted with every step.

“Watch their shoulders,” Ironstride barked. “Those petals flare before they charge.”
Kaiden moved first. His scythe arced forward in a two-point spin as he activated Twilight Rend, the crescent slash slicing the first Sunblight Guardian across the torso. It staggered, its bark chipping apart, but its return swing slammed Kaiden across the shoulder, forcing him back and depleting [18 LP] from his health. Another leapt forward, claws raised. Ironstride intercepted with a shield bash, absorbing the blow with a grunt as her aggro ability triggered. Her HUD pulsed red as a [22 LP] was removed from her health.
Naō lobbed a Corrosive Draught between the last two enemies, coating their bark in a bubbling acid that sizzled with effect.
DEF -10%, DoT Active (12s), Lightbound Carapace weakened.
Kaiden darted in under cover, chaining Bleeding Horizon into the weakened flank. His scythe cleaved through the first Guardian, trailing black liquid that ignited in a delayed blast shattering it completely. The blast radius caught the second, leaving it stunned. One down, three to go.
But the temple wasn’t done with them.

Kaiden grimaced. The Photosphere was charging faster than usual. Liri, who had stayed back, clutched her small hands together. She watched him with silent urgency. Another Guardian barreled into Kaiden's side. The hit broke through his mid-guard, sending him sliding several feet and dropping another 32 LP.
“Shut it down,” Ironstride yelled back as she grappled a Guardian with a shield-lock. “Don’t let it collapse."
Kaiden grit his teeth. He feinted to the left in an attempt to retreat, letting the enemy overextend its power, then dashed in with Riptide Fang. His scythe surged with twilight water and pierced the Guardian through the torso. The enemy shrieked and burst into light.
LP Restored: +5% | Cooldown Reset
With a spin, Kaiden launched Abyssal Bloom, a flurry of strikes surrounded by shadow petals. Each hit drained life from the enemies, softening their defense with each slash. The remaining Guardian fell, crumbling to the floor.

They took a moment to breathe. Kaiden dropped to one knee, breathing hard as his Overflow Mode simmered. He was already down to 28% LP. He was cutting it too close each and every time.
Naō passed him a higher-grade tonic. “They're ramping up the difficulty. That overflow collapse condition’s new."
Kaiden drank the tonic given to him. “They're reacting to the Photosphere. I can feel it.”
They moved deeper. At the edge of a flooded corridor, Ironstride pointed to a rusted console embedded in the wall, an old-world control panel almost overtaken by moss.
“Log panel,” she muttered.
Naō stepped forward, pulling out a flask. He poured a thick green liquid into the moss-choked port. The panel hissed. The screen glitched, then lit up.

The ones attuned to the solar tide will blossom or burn. We thought we could redirect it. Create warriors from what was decaying. But the roots took more than we gave. In time, even the children started to react to it.
Kaiden stared at the text. “The children started to echo...?”
Ironstride frowned. “Whatever they were doing here, it wasn’t standard magic. Sounds like some kind of infection.”
Liri stood still, her hands shaking. “They tried to offer stability, but the rot took control over everything and everyone.”
Kaiden looked at her. “How do you know that?”
She blinked. “Everyone remembers the history. It always repeats itself.”
Before they could question her further, the entire temple rumbled.

A massive armored creature descended from the ceiling, cloaked in moss and bearing a great shield made of tree barks. The moment its feet hit the ground, light surged through the arena.
Light Delay: Cooldowns increased by 20%
Photosphere Instability: Active (Overflow Bonus halved during collapse)
The Aegis slammed its shield down, sending out shockwaves that clipped Naō for [-34 LP]. Kaiden dashed to the side, activated Hydrosphere, and summoned a dome of water-dark energy.
Ranged attacks deflected | Overflow Skills boosted +20%
Ironstride slammed into the boss from behind with Linked Chain Defense, granting nearby allies temporary DEF boosts. Kaiden saw the window and lunged forward, chaining Bleeding Horizon and Twilight Rend back-to-back. The hits slashed across the Aegis's legs, but only half damage was registered. Reflection kicked in, sending 12 recoil LP back to him.
Naō flanked, applying Stunburst Phial. A bright flash of concussive light that froze the Aegis for a breath.
Stun Success: 2.2 seconds
Liri stepped forward, holding her pendant. A faint pulse surged from her to Kaiden.
Follower Passive Activated: Shadowlink Pulse
When Nyte is below 50% LP, Overflow damage +10%, LP Drain -1%
Kaiden felt the pull immediately. He moved with practiced eased, and effiecny, chaining his attacks into a final combo. Following up finally with, Drown the Sun. He poured all remaining HP into a sweeping flood of lunar-dark water. It tore through the Aegis, blinding it, drenching the floor, and healing the others with the LP he sacrificed.
Kaiden collapsed, 1 HP flickering in his bar.
The Aegis let out a broken scream and fell.

Kaiden crouched panting. The Photosphere had stopped igniting power.
Ironstride leaned over him. “You good?”
“Barely.”
Liri crouched beside them, eyes wide. Her voice was soft. “Someone is listening.”
The temple walls seemed to lean closer and far above, something unseen hummed.

A ripple of translucent shadow unfurled from his scythe. For an instant, he saw his own motion replayed in reverse; every strike from the battle ghosted in pale light before dissolving into water-smoke.
In the shadow's memory, the blade remembers what the body cannot.
Text scrolled across his vision.

He ignored it. The ache in his arms felt almost human again.
Naō crouched beside him, flask still in hand. “That hum, gone?”
Kaiden listened. The vibration had faded into silence. Only the slow drip of water echoed through the hall.
“For now,” he said, rising. “But whatever’s under this temple... it’s awake.”
They exchanged looks and turned toward the dark corridor yawning beyond the fallen Aegis.
The glow of Kaiden’s Photosphere dimmed to a heartbeating pulse as they stepped forward, leaving the shattered guardian behind.
