Chapter 91: Rulu’s Request

After hearing Rulu's words, those present began murmuring among themselves in hushed discussion. General Li also fell into deep thought. After a moment, he made up his mind and spoke aloud: "Fellow compatriots, leaders of the Rebels — I believe what young friend Rulu has just said, and I am willing to support him as your leader. I hope you will join me in doing so."

Seeing General Li take this stance, the resolve of those present began to waver. The Bald Scarred Man said: "Since General Li has spoken, I have nothing more to say. Let this young man called Rulu be our leader."

"It doesn't matter whether he's Huaxia or not — as long as he can lead us to bring down the Sanctuary."

"Exactly. Rulu may be young, but he's extraordinarily capable. He single-handedly subdued that Governor Suwen and rescued all of our people. Who else could have done that?!"

The others also voiced their agreement, expressing their willingness to accept Rulu as their leader. General Li said: "Good. Since no one has any objections, it's settled. I would very much like to stay longer and discuss further matters with everyone, but there are many things awaiting my attention, so I must take my leave. As for what we've discussed today, I'll send someone to follow up with you ter."

Having said this, General Li slowly rose from his seat, and the others stood as well. Captain Guan said: "General Li, you are a busy man. We're sorry to have taken up so much of your time on our behalf."

General Li smiled and said: "Think nothing of it. Farewell for now, everyone — and you too, young friend Rulu. Until we meet again."

General Li and those who had come with him then departed the stone chamber in an orderly fashion. Everyone had intended to see him off properly, but General Li insisted it was unnecessary. So they only walked him to the door before returning inside and taking their seats again.

"Rulu, now that we're all on the same side, why not stay with us today? Let us throw you a celebratory banquet." Captain Guan said warmly to Rulu.

Rulu said: "I appreciate the kind thought, Captain Guan, but I can't linger here too long. I need to return to Blue Sea City after nightfall."

  "Such a rush?"

"Yes. I mentioned earlier that I have an important matter to take care of. In order to see it through, I'll need to leave Blue Sea City for a month — possibly longer. So for quite some time, I won't be in contact with any of you."

"What — you'll be gone that long?" Captain Guan was visibly surprised. "Then what about what General Li just discussed? You're our leader now. Without you here, many things simply won't be able to move forward."

Rulu said: "That's alright. While I'm away, Captain Guan, I'd like you to take my pce and handle things."

"That… that won't do!" Captain Guan looked utterly taken aback.

Rulu said: "Actually, Captain Guan, you're the most suitable person for the role. My reason for wanting to be your leader was simply that I dislike being under anyone else's command. You're far more experienced in that regard than I am, so there's no need to decline."

"But… but—" Captain Guan still wanted to object, when the Bald Scarred Man cut in: "Captain Guan, there's no need for modesty. I believe you're more than capable of handling this."

"That's right — the fact that Rulu is asking you to lead shows he trusts you. There's no reason to refuse."

The others also expressed their support for Captain Guan. After all, he commanded considerable respect among them. Rulu was exceptional, but he was still an outsider of unknown origins. Given the choice, they were far more comfortable with Captain Guan as their leader.

Captain Guan scratched his head and said with a touch of uncertainty: "Alright, since everyone feels this way, I'll humbly accept the role."

Rulu said: "Then it's decided. There's also one more thing I'd like to ask of you, Captain Guan."

Captain Guan said: "Rulu, you're our leader now — just say the word."

"I'd like to take Kallen with me and borrow her for a period of time — about a month, or possibly longer."

"You want to take Kallen?!" Captain Guan hadn't anticipated this request at all. He hesitated and said: "That's a personal matter for Kallen — it should ultimately be her decision. Kallen, are you willing to go with Rulu?"

As he spoke, Captain Guan turned his gaze toward Kallen, who was standing to one side. Kallen was also caught off guard. She stared bnkly at Rulu and said: "Ru… Rulu, what is it you need me to do? Why does it have to be me?"
