Marineford - The Clash of Titans
The ice beneath Whitebeard and Kaido cracked with each step they took toward each other. The air itself felt heavy, compressed by the weight of their Conqueror's Haki pressing against the world.
Whitebeard moved first.
His bisento came down in a devastating arc, the massive blade wreathed in concentrated tremor energy that distorted the air around it.
Reality itself seemed to warp near the weapon, space bending and twisting. The attack wasn't just physical, it carried the power to shatter the very fabric of existence.
Kaido raised Hassaikai to block, lightning crackling along its spiked length like a living storm.
The collision created a shockwave that flattened everything within a hundred feet. Ice exploded into dust, particles thrown hundreds of feet into the air.
Marines and pirates were thrown backward like leaves in a hurricane, some knocked unconscious before they even hit the ground.
The execution platform groaned, massive cracks spreading across its reinforced stone foundation.
The sky above split wider, the divided clouds creating an ominous cross pattern that stretched from horizon to horizon. Sunlight streamed through the gap while the rest remained dark with storm clouds, creating an apocalyptic view.
But this time, something was different.
Kaido's feet slid backward across the ice, carving deep trenches ten feet long. His eyes widened, the first hint of genuine surprise crossing his face.
"You have truly changed old man," Kaido said, his grin widening even as blood dripped from the wound on his shoulder.
"Much stronger than before! This isn't the sick old man I expected! WORORORO! This is what I wanted! I'll beat at your full strength and show the world who is truly strongest."
Whitebeard's laugh boomed across the battlefield, that deep sound that had terrified enemies for decades.
"Gurararara! You think I became the strongest man in the world by luck, brat? Let me remind you why Roger and I ruled these seas! Let me show you the peak of this world!"
He swung again, faster this time. His bisento carved through the air with enough force to create a vacuum in its wake, the displaced air creating a visible shockwave.
Kaido blocked, but the impact drove him back another fifteen feet, his heels digging trenches in the ice.
Whitebeard pressed forward, not giving Kaido time to recover. His bisento struck in rapid succession, each strike powerful enough to split mountains.
The tremor energy accumulated with each blow, building like an earthquake gaining strength.
"World Shaker!"
Whitebeard planted his bisento and punched the air with both fists simultaneously.
The atmosphere cracked like a mirror, visible fractures spreading from his fists in massive spiderweb patterns.
The tremor energy didn't disperse, it concentrated into focused beams of pure destructive force that warped reality as they traveled.
The attack slammed into Kaido's chest with the force of a tectonic shift.
Kaido coughed blood, a massive spray that painted the ice crimson. His dragon scales—legendary for their impenetrable defense—cracked audibly, fragments falling away to reveal burned flesh beneath.
The impact drove him backward fifty feet, his body carving a trench through the ice until he crashed into a pile of rubble.
"KAIDO-SAN!" King's flames erupted with agitation, burning so hot they turned from red to blue.
"Boss!" Queen's mechanical eye whirred frantically, analyzing the battle with growing concern.
"He's actually losing!" Jack's voice carried disbelief and fear.
But Kaido rose from the rubble, his grin manic, blood pouring from his mouth and the cracks in his scales. His eyes gleamed with something beyond excitement—this was pure joy.
"YES! That's it! That's the Whitebeard I wanted to fight!" Kaido's body began to shimmer, scales rippling across his skin as he initiated a transformation.
"Let me show you what I learned after our last fight!"
He gripped his kanabo with both hands, lightning crackling along its entire length. But this wasn't normal lightning, it was black, infused with advanced Conqueror's Haki that made the air itself disperse.
"Raimei Hakke!"
Kaido vanished. Not with speed alone, but moving so fast he literally disappeared from perception.
He appeared directly in front of Whitebeard, his kanabo already descending.
Thunder didn't just boom, it detonated. The electrical discharge was visible as a massive black and purple explosion that lit up the entire battlefield.
The shockwave from the impact alone created a crater fifty feet wide.
Whitebeard took the hit full force, crossing his arms to block. His Haki-coated forearms absorbed most of the impact, but the thunder explosion still burned his skin, still made his muscles spasm from the electrical current.
But he didn't fall. Didn't stumble. His feet remained planted.
"Good hit, brat!" Whitebeard's grin was fierce, almost proud. "But you'll need more than that!"
He grabbed Kaido's kanabo with one hand, stopping the follow-up strike completely. His other fist, wreathed in tremor power and Conqueror's Haki so thick it was visible as black and white energy swirling together, pulled back.
"Is that all you've got?!"
The punch connected with Kaido's jaw.
The sound was like a cannon shot multiplied a thousand times. The air around the impact point literally exploded, shockwaves rippling outward in visible waves.
Kaido's head snapped back so hard it looked like his neck might break. Blood erupted from his mouth in a massive spray. Several of his teeth flew out, spinning through the air.
Kaido was driven backward and down, actually forced to one knee. His kanabo slipped from his grip, clattering on the ice.
He caught himself with one hand, breathing hard, blood dripping from his mouth and nose.
For the first time in the battle, Kaido looked hurt.
"Impossible..." A Marine Lieutenant whispered, his rifle falling from nerveless fingers. "He's overpowering Kaido the Beast. Whitebeard is actually winning!"
"That's the world's strongest man in his prime," another Marine said, his voice filled with awe and terror.
"That's the monster who fought Roger to a standstill. That's the man who could destroy the world if he wanted."
Pirates on both sides stopped fighting to watch. Some Whitebeard Pirates had tears in their eyes, seeing their father at his peak again.
Beast Pirates looked on with growing fear, watching their seemingly invincible captain take devastating damage.
Whitebeard stood over Kaido, his bisento raised. "Ready for another round, boy? Or have you finally learned some respect?"
Kaido rose slowly, wiping blood from his mouth. His grin returned, wider than before. "Respect? WORORORO! I respect you more than ever, old man! You're everything I wanted to be! This is what it means to stand at the peak! But I have grown stronger too!"
He transformed fully, his body expanding and elongating. Scales covered his entire form as he became a massive azure dragon, easily two hundred feet long. He coiled in the air, his presence overwhelming.
"Let's see how you handle this! Bolo Breath!"
Kaido's mouth opened, heat building inside like a furnace gaining power. Energy concentrated, visible as a red glow that grew brighter and brighter. Then he released it.
A beam of fire erupted from his mouth. Not just fire, but pure heat given form. The attack was as thick as a building, the heat so intense that ice vaporized before the beam even touched it.
The air itself combusted, secondary fires erupting along the beam's path.
Whitebeard planted his bisento and crossed his arms. His Haki flared, coating his entire body in black armor. The beam hit him full force.
The explosion was catastrophic. Fire and steam erupted in a massive column that reached the clouds.
The shockwave knocked down everyone within two hundred feet. The ice beneath Whitebeard melted instantly, creating a pool of boiling water.
When the steam cleared, Whitebeard stood in the center of a massive crater, his coat smoking, his skin reddened from heat, but still standing. Still grinning.
"That stung a little, I'll admit!" Whitebeard's laugh echoed. "But you'll need to do better than that to put me down!"
"WORORORO! Then I'll just hit you again!"
The two Emperors clashed again, each strike shaking the island, each collision creating explosions that could be seen from miles away.
Whitebeard's tremor power against Kaido's raw might and elemental fury. The battle between legends that would be spoken of for generations.
King, Queen, and Jack watched their captain's struggle with growing concern. They were currently engaged with Aokiji and Kizaru, the two Admirals holding them back from interfering.
King blocked another ice spear from Aokiji, his flames melting it before impact. But more spears came immediately, forcing him to keep defending.
"We need to end this quickly," he said coldly, his voice carrying to Queen and Jack despite the chaos.
"If Kaido-san falls here, everything is over. The Beast Pirates, our territories, everything we've built."
"Yihahaha!" Queen's laugh was strained, forced. His mechanical eye whirred as it tracked Kizaru's light-speed movements. "Easier said than done! These guys are Admirals for a reason!"
He fired a volley of plague bullets at Aokiji, each one capable of causing devastating disease.
Aokiji created an ice wall to block, but Queen's real attack came from his mechanical arm, a laser beam that punched through the wall.
Aokiji dodged with minimal movement, ice already forming to create another barrier. "Arara, you're quite troublesome with all those gadgets."
Jack charged forward, his mammoth trunk swinging at Aokiji with devastating force. His Haki-coated attack shattered the ice barrier completely, creating an opening. "Then we fight harder! For Kaido-san! We can't let him fight alone!"
Aokiji created another ice wall to block, but Jack's momentum carried him through. "You're persistent, I'll give you that."
Kizaru appeared beside King in a flash of light, his leg already descending and coated in Haki. "Have you ever been kicked at the speed of light~?"
King's flames erupted, meeting the kick. The collision created an explosion of fire and light that lit up the battlefield. "Your light is annoying, Admiral Kizaru. But it's not enough to burn me."
His sword came around in a devastating arc, each swing releasing crescents of fire. Kizaru dodged with lazy efficiency, but King's attacks were forcing him to actually move, to take the fight seriously.
They traded blows in rapid succession. King's flames countered Kizaru's light beams.
Queen's plague weapons and lasers forced Aokiji to maintain distance, preventing him from using his freezing powers at full strength.
Jack's raw physical power and durability made him a constant battering ram, breaking through defenses and creating openings.
But Aokiji and Kizaru were holding their ground. They weren't trying to win quickly, they were conserving energy, keeping the three commanders occupied.
"Borsalino," Aokiji said quietly, freezing the ground beneath Queen's feet to slow him down. Ice spread in intricate patterns, creating a field of crystalline spikes.
"You should head back. With Sakazuki down and Sengoku-san being held back by those strangers, we need someone to stabilize the plaza. The regular Marines are getting overwhelmed."
Kizaru dodged another strike from King, his expression thoughtful behind his usual lazy demeanor. "Are you sure you can handle all three alone? That seems quite troublesome~ They're not exactly weak opponents."
Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.
"I'll manage." Aokiji created multiple ice clones to confuse Jack, each one solid enough to fight independently. "Besides, you're forgetting something important."
"Oh?" Kizaru kicked King away, creating distance with a light-speed movement. "And what's that?"
Aokiji smiled slightly, a rare expression on his usually stoic face. "There's one Marine who hasn't made a single move yet due to his family issues.
His grandson was on the execution platform, remember? But now that both Luffy and Ace are safe..."
Kizaru's eyes widened in understanding behind his tinted glasses. "Ah. That's true. Garp-san is finally free to act. How scary~"
Just as he finished speaking, a booming laugh shook the entire battlefield.
"BWAHAHAHA!"
The sound was like thunder, like the earth itself laughing. It carried across the entire plaza, cutting through the chaos of thousands of combatants fighting. Marines and pirates alike froze mid-swing, mid-shot, mid-movement.
Everyone recognized that laugh.
"You pirates think you can just do as you please here?!" The voice was powerful, commanding, carrying decades of authority and absolute confidence.
"This is Marineford! The heart of Marine Justice! The fortress that has never fallen! Aren't you getting a little cocky here!?"
Garp the Fist walked toward the center of the battlefield, and his presence changed everything.
Conqueror's Haki erupted from him like a volcanic explosion. Waves of pressure radiated outward, visible as distortions in the air.
Weaker combatants on both sides immediately collapsed, foam bubbling from their mouths as their minds couldn't withstand the pressure.
His entire body was coated in Armament Haki so dark it looked black, so concentrated and refined it seemed to absorb light itself. His muscles, still powerful despite his age, rippled beneath the Haki coating.
His eyes were sharp, focused, the eyes of a man who'd fought the strongest beings in the world and survived.
"All Marines!" Garp's voice boomed across the plaza, reaching every soldier, every officer. "Fall back immediately! Rescue the wounded! Get them to safety! That's an order!"
Marines immediately began retreating without question. They moved with practiced efficiency, veterans dragging wounded comrades away from the fighting, medics rushing to stabilize critical injuries. They trusted Garp completely, absolutely, without a shred of doubt.
Gion tried to come and help him, but Garp just shook his head.
"Don't worry about me, this old man has plenty of breath left in this old bones. I'll take care of the pirates myself!" Garp cracked his knuckles, the sound like breaking stone, like a mountain settling.
His grin was fierce, anticipating, the expression of a man about to do what he loved most, fight.
Whitebeard paused in his assault on Kaido, turning to look at his old rival. A grin spread across his rejuvenated face. "Garp! Finally decided to stop sitting on your ass watching?!"
"Whitebeard!" Garp's grin matched his, two old warriors who'd fought each other countless times. "You look thirty years younger! Did you make a deal with the devil? Sell your soul for another shot at me?"
"Something like that! Gurararara! Want to test if I'm as strong as I used to be?"
Kaido, still in his dragon form, coiled in the air. His eyes found Garp, and his grin became even more manic. "Garp the Fist! Another legend from the old era! WORORORO!
This war just got infinitely more interesting! Three monsters from the old era, all in one place!"
The Beast Pirates watching from across the battlefield tensed. King, Queen, and Jack saw Garp's entrance and immediately intensified their assault on the Admirals, desperation creeping into their attacks.
King's flames burned hotter, hot enough to turn blue at their core. "We need to break through now! If Garp enters the fight at full strength, Kaido-san will be fighting two monsters at once!"
Queen fired everything he had, creating a wall of attacks. "I'm trying! These damn Admirals won't give us an opening!"
Jack transformed fully into his mammoth form, his massive body charging with the force of a landslide. "Then we make an opening!"
But Aokiji and Kizaru were ready. Ice walls rose, thick and reinforced. Light beams cut through the air with surgical precision.
The three commanders found themselves pushed back, unable to reach their captain, unable to help.
Aokiji's expression was serious now, no trace of his usual laziness. "You're not getting past us. Garp-san is entering the fight, and we're going to let him clean up."
Kizaru nodded, his light sword forming in his hand. "Just accept it~ You've already lost."
Garp walked to the center of the battlefield, and thousands of pirates stared at him.
Whitebeard Pirates, Beast Pirates, escaped convicts from Impel Down who'd followed Luffy. They surrounded him from all sides, weapons drawn, Devil Fruit powers active, Haki flaring.
A young pirate, maybe twenty years old, laughed nervously. "It's just one old man! There's thousands of us! We can take him!"
"Yeah!" Another pirate raised his sword. " For starting a new era! Charge!"
They rushed Garp from all sides, a wave of bodies and weapons and powers.
Garp's grin widened. "You brats have spirit. I'll give you that. But spirit alone won't save you in these seas.!"
He moved.
Not with Devil Fruit power. Not with tricks or techniques. Just pure physical speed and strength refined over decades of fighting the strongest beings alive.
His fist shot out, Haki-coated and devastating. "How about I show you brats my Fist of Love!"
The first pirate to reach him was sent flying, his body ragdolling backward so fast he became a blur. He crashed into ten others, the impact killing several instantly from the sheer transferred force.
Garp's other fist came around. Another pirate went flying, his chest caved in from the impact.
Then Garp really got started.
He moved through the crowd like a hurricane given human form. Each punch sent pirates flying, their bodies broken, their weapons shattered.
He didn't dodge attacks, he took them head-on, his Haki-coated body shrugging off sword strikes, bullets, even Devil Fruit powers.
A pirate with a Zoan fruit transformed into a massive bear, roaring as he swung claws the size of dinner plates.
Garp caught the paw with one hand, stopped it completely, then punched the bear in the face. The Zoan user went down, unconscious before he hit the ground, his transformation reverting.
"Is that all?!" Garp laughed, his voice booming. "I've fought sea kings stronger than this!"
Three pirates attacked simultaneously from different angles, their coordination perfect. Garp grabbed one by the face, lifted him, and used him as a club to beat the other two. All three went down in a heap.
"Plasma Fist!" A pirate with a Logia fruit attacked, his arm transforming into plasma.
The attack should have been devastating.
Garp's Haki-coated punch went straight through the magma without being burned, hitting the pirate's real body beneath.
The Logia user coughed blood and collapsed, his elemental form flickering out.
"Logia fruits don't mean shit if your strength is weak!" Garp's lesson was punctuated by another punch that sent five pirates flying.
A group of twenty pirates tried surrounding him completely, attacking from every angle at once with coordinated strikes.
Garp planted his feet and crossed his arms. "Let's clean up the battlefield a little."
"Galaxy Impact!"
He punched downward with both fists.
The impact created a shockwave that rippled outward in all directions. The ice beneath him cracked in a massive spiderweb pattern spanning two hundred feet.
Every pirate within that radius was thrown into the air, their bodies ragdolling from the sheer force.
When they fell back down, none of them got up.
"BWAHAHAHA!" Garp's laugh echoed across the battlefield. "You want to be pirates?! You want to challenge the Marines?!
Then show me what you've got! Make me work for it!"
More pirates charged, and Garp met them head-on.
His fist caught a sword strike, the blade shattering against his Haki-coated knuckles.
His elbow smashed into another pirate's face, bone breaking audibly. His knee came up into someone's gut, the impact lifting them off the ground.
He was surrounded by dozens, but they couldn't touch him. Every attack was blocked, countered, or simply ignored. Every pirate who got close enough went down, unconscious or dead.
A particularly brave pirate with Observation Haki managed to predict Garp's next move, dodging the punch by inches. "I saw it coming! I can fight him!"
Garp's grin widened. "Good! You've got potential, kid!"
His next punch was faster, stronger, completely unpredictable. The pirate's Observation Haki screamed warnings but couldn't keep up.
The punch connected, and the pirate went down like a puppet with cut strings.
"But potential means nothing without experience!" Garp's lesson was delivered with another punch that sent three more pirates flying.
Whitebeard Pirates watching from the sidelines were stunned. They'd fought in Roger's era, had heard stories about Garp, but seeing him in action was different.
"He's... he's actually fighting thousands of us alone," one division member whispered, his voice shaking. "And he's winning."
"That's the man who cornered the Pirate King multiple times, and captured him." another said, his grip on his weapon loosening.
"That's the Hero of the Marines. We can't beat him. Nobody can beat him one-on-one."
Marco watched from above, his phoenix form allowing him to see the entire battlefield. "Pops was right. Garp is a monster. Maybe not as strong as Pops or Roger, but he's close. Damn close."
Garp continued his rampage, his laughter echoing across the battlefield like thunder.
A group of fifty pirates tried a coordinated assault, attacking with perfect timing and positioning. Garp met them head-on, not bothering to dodge.
"Meteor Fist!"
His punches came so fast they looked like a meteor shower, each one creating shockwaves. Pirates were sent flying in all directions, their bodies crashing into ice, into rubble, into each other.
Within seconds, all fifty were down.
Garp stood in the center of hundreds of unconscious bodies, his breathing steady, his grin never fading. "Who's next?! Don't tell me you're all tired already! We're just getting started!"
The remaining pirates hesitated, fear creeping in. They'd just watched one man take down hundreds without breaking a sweat.
"What are you waiting for?!" A Beast Pirates officer shouted, trying to rally them. "There's still thousands of us! He's just one man! He can't fight forever!"
But even as he said it, his voice lacked conviction.
Because they were all thinking the same thing, this wasn't just a man. This was Garp the Fist, the man who captured Gol D. Roger, the man who'd refused promotion to Admiral multiple times because he didn't want to serve the Celestial Dragons directly.
This was a living legend of the seas, and legends didn't die to mere numbers.
Garp cracked his knuckles again, his grin widening. "What's wrong? Lost your spirit already? And here I thought pirates were supposed to be brave!"
His Conqueror's Haki flared again, pressing down on everyone, challenging them, daring them to attack.
Some pirates broke and ran. Others stood their ground, weapons shaking in their grips. A few brave ones charged, screaming battle cries, knowing they'd probably die but refusing to back down.
Garp met them with that same fierce grin, his fists already moving.
The battle continued, one man against thousands, and the man was winning.
