Chapter 89: The Student Council

Evangeline Galaxidae, she was there sitting on her desk while reading some files, physical files, as in she had the whole thing, folder, paper and even a pen there for writting, who even used these things in this age? Wasn’t it easier to summon the files on a smart device? Or to use magic skills?

Either way, once Elizabeth walked inside she noticed that Asher and Selen stood on the far end of the room, behind Evangeline, or to be precise, Asher stood to the front and to the side of Evangeline’s desktop.

Selen stood at the side of Evangeline and behind her, staying guard.

Lily walked past Elizabeth and stood at the other side of Evangeline, now in one side stood Lily and in the other stood Selen, two people guarding the left and right.

“Evangeline Galaxidae,” Elizabeth said once she walked inside, Magnus then walked past her and stood like Asher, in front and to the side of the desk.

Five people stood in front of Elizabeth now, Asher Sterling, Magnus Embersteel, Lily Hartley, Selen Dawnstrike and Evangeline Galaxidae.

Each was more powerful than the one before…or so they should be; Elizabeth still couldn’t very well read their status without forcing her way.

“Elizabeth…” Evangeline said, leaving the papers she was reading and looking at her, “Ashcroft, Brighton, Starlight…Saintsworths….Or would you rather we use Starbright?”

So she was posturing about knowing?

“Starbright is the name my parents gave me,” Elizabeth answered, “So? What title should I use? Galaxidae? Galaxidae? Servant? Heir? Scion?”

Elizabeth didn’t know that many of Evangeline would be able to make her words viable as a threat, although…. “Actually, let me make sure of it. What title should I use?” Elizabeth said smiling.

This would be one of the first times she did this after the change of style of casting.

“That is meaningless, we are under the Aegis of [The Servant of Akasha], no information will leave-” Selen said looking down on Elizabeth.

Evangeline however didn’t seem insulted or angry, instead her eyes seemed to shine with anticipation, so Elizabeth took that as permission.

“Identify,” And used her Skill, unlike how she did it usually letting the [System] take hold and guide her mana, she focused first the mana, channeling from her upper dantian into her eyes, from there she shaped the mana into the form she needed.

While her Skill usually sent the mana in the form of a wavelenght that hit the targets and spread across her targets, granting her the data of who she wanted, but this time she couldn’t do that.

Instead, she shaped the mana in the form of a spear, infused it with her will, and let the mana be condensed; when it was about to overload, Elizabeth changed the properties of the mana into one of Thunder.

And like that, she allowed the Skill to fly.

Elizabeth had infused as much mana as she could, so this was an skill with the might of an S-Tier entity, so she felt the mana drainers attempt to latch on it, alas, she wasn’t using ambient mana, so while they wanted to latch, there was nothing to latch on.

Even so, no one seemed to move, they all believed in the protection that Evangeline granted them…”Pierce,” Even so, Elizabeth spoke. And the mana answered to her call.

The spear of mana that was formed from the skill split into five different arrows, one per member of the Student Council. Elizabeth felt the skill latch, and with that a stream of information came forward Elizabeth.

The reaction from each student council member was varied as it was interesting.

From Evangeline, Elizabeth felt the mana attempt to analyze what she had done; it didn’t attempt to safeguard the information that Elizabeth had taken but instead attempted to analyze how Elizabeth had done that.

From Lily, she felt the mana attempt to Burn the data that Elizabeth had acquired, but Elizabeth merely shifted the mana from Lightning to Wrath’s Fire. That was enough to let Elizabeth’s mana to survive and send the data back.

From Selen, she felt the radiance from [Holy Mana] attempting to purify her Skill, like with Lily, she merely swapped the properties of her mana from normal Lightning to Divine Lightning. It not only allowed Elizabeth’s mana to survive, but also allowed it to return faster to her side.

From Asher he attempted to take control of the Lightning mana that Elizabeth was using, so she changed the properties from Lightning to Fire, and then used Space Mana to teleport it away from him.

She didn’t have full confidence in fighting against someone who used only Lightning Mana; she had full confidence in her own Lightning, but she had learned the hard way that using an element against a specialist of that element was the epitome of failing because of her own hubris.

Magnus however was easier to deal, since he didn’t react at all, and merely read something on his tablet, was he perhaps reading the interation between the mana and him?

No matter what, the end result was the same.

"You!" Selen, like what Elizabeth expected was the first to flare in anger, she shifted to her [Archangel] mode with three pairs of wings behind her and an angelic halo that seemed to want to glitch out any second.

"Starbright!" The second one to react was of course Asher, his hair turning to a plasma-like state and his eyes narrowing.

What Elizabeth hadn't expected was the fact that Lily silently joined the fray, while her hair didn't shift, her body didn't change and even her uniform remained the same.

What changed was the fact that the air around her had explosively raised to great temperatures while leaving a bubble around the members of the Student council unaffected.

Elizabeth, of course, did not have such a nice temperature, but her body had long ago stopped caring from such petty changes in the temperature, and even if she didn't have The Gem of Wrath and The Gem of Fire at her disposal, she could very well regulate her temperature with spells.

So this? This didn't affect her at all.

"Stop," Even so, at the end it was Evangeline the one who stopped the members of the student council, "The same goes for you Magnus, it's too soon to reveal your hand."

  That, however, interested Elizabeth greatly.

"She may find out from the data she got from that…Spell? Or was it a [Skill]?" Magnus said as he lowered his tablet.

"Stop the device," Evangeline said again, "I'll not repeat myself a third time."

  Device?

"....Fine, ALBIREO power down." Magnus said, and from that, Elizabeth perceived the faintest mana interaction between Magnus and his tablet.

“[Acknowledged Master, powering down the orbital / interdimensional laser.]”

The what now? Also, why was that voice so…similar to how Alexa spoke?

"So? What data did you manage to get Elizabeth?" Evangeline said looking to Elizabeth with great interest.

  What data?

"Heh, that will not be for free." Elizabeth smirked at Evangeline, "What are you offering [Servant]?"

"An answer for an answer, you answer my question and I'll answer yours." Evangeline said extending her arms, "And any question you make can include them of course."

So Elizabeth would have free reign to ask about any member of the Student Council? That…sounded like a good deal when in reality it wasn't, the other members were meaningless, since they all followed Evangeline's lead. The only relevant one was Evangeline.

"Fine, ask your question then." Elizabeth said, she needed to think her question well…

"How much data did you get?" Evangeline asked as her first question, to be honest, Elizabeth had expected a very different question, but this? This was a freebie.

"All of it, I know your names, titles, status, job and skills." So Elizabeth answered.

"Impossible!" Selen jumped, "No one can glimpse as much data from a mere low level [Identify]!"

"This is not a low level [Identify], it is an Identify. What you use as [Skill] is not the same as what I used as Skill." Elizabeth smirked, "Also that would be two questions I answered wouldn't it?"

Evangeline nodded, so Elizabeth took that as an implied yes, you can ask two questions.

So she did, "First question, are you enemies to Rossie or Rena?" That one was important, more important than anything else, "Second question, are you loyal to the [Galaxidae]?"

And that one was important enough that Elizabeth made sure to use [Idea], something she had stopped using quite ways ago, but that was very good to make sure what she was asking came across as she wanted it.

"We aren't enemies to any [Hero's Companion]. Rossaline Singh and Watanabe Rena are two such entities, so we will never be antagonists to them. So long they continue working as [Hero's Companions], then we will be their allies." Evangeline answered.

"Well, Selen never acted like one, nor did any of you when Rena was suffering." Elizabeth grumbled accusatory.

"What happened to Watanabe Rena was terrible indeed, but that happened to a [Hero's Companion] while under her [Hero] 's watch, it was supposed to happen. If it had been someone who wasn't a [Hero], then we would have acted to rescue her…But anything that happens to a [Hero's Companion] because of their [Hero] can only be contested by another [Hero]." Evangeline added to her answer, "That is why we didn't help Akira when you, another [Hero] took Rena from him."

"Then you wouldn't have acted if Akira had managed to take Rossie from me?" Elizabeth said as the realization hit.

"No, we would have not." Evangeline answered. "As for if we are loyal to the [Galaxidae], we aren't. We only serve [Akasha], as do the [Galaxidae], so long our goals align we will work in tandem, if they split, then we will act independly, we may even be hostile against each other if the situation merits so."

So…she wasn't an ally? Till she was? That was a bullshit answer.

"And I answered three questions, so I have one extra to ask…Selen, you can take one if you want." Evangeline said with a smile, "As for my question of this round…Why did you come?"

"How did you manage to pierce Evangeline's Aegis?" Selen didn't even take a second to think before asking. Such a boring question.

"I come to verify if you were an enemy or not, your...workers have been antagonists to me and have shown that they care not for those that I care," Elizabeth said glaring at Selen, "I found recently that some members of the [Galaxidae] orchestrated an attack against those that work for me, so I want to know if you as a Galaxidae are or not an enemy."

Then turning to Selen, Elizabeth added to her answer, "As for how I pierced it, just like how Evangeline can guard data from people reading it, I can too glimpse at things that others can't. Evangeline may be a [Servant of Akasha], but did you forget who I was?"

"The [Inheritor of Akasha]...was it?" Magnus said, summoning the same blue screen that Elizabeth had allowed them to see before, "Not that it shows on your data anymore."

"Yes, now it's my turn again." Elizabeth had found that they weren't enemies to Rena or Rossie, but that was far from enough, if Elizabeth didn't ask this one then Rossie would be mad at her, "Are you my enemies?"

"So long you aren't labeled as an enemy to [The World] then no. We will not become your enemies," Evangeline answered before anyone else could, "Now, are you an enemy to [The World]?"

  Well, that was just rude.

"If [The World] minds her own business and doesn't mess with us then no. I don't mind keeping our relationship amiable." Elizabeth decided to answer. She wasn't sure if that purple-haired woman (Not Aura but Crystal) would get this from Evangeline.

"...So you did meet [The World]..." Evangeline said with her eyes shining with great interest.

"Is that an additional question?" Elizabeth asked, she would like if it wasn't.

"No, it is not. Ask your question Elizabeth," Evangeline said.

Now...she found that they weren't enemies, that they wouldn't attempt to become ones so long Elizabeth kept her probably very dangerous thoughts as such and didn't act on them.

"What can you tell me about the [Galaxidae] and their goals?" So Elizabeth decided to go for what she had come, the other things were extras after all.
