Chapter 32. Ravens roost . Part 2.

Jack remained where he was, his gaze still on the group of kids as Carla half ran over, a kind smile on her face. She stopped in front of Mika and Kate brushing a hand through their hair, the same kind and gentle smile on her face. "Sorry girls," she then looked at Kaede and Fumiko with mischief as she added "Momma had to talk with uncle a bit, adult ears only." she then giggled a bit seeing the pout forming on both Fumiko's and Kaede's faces. It was clear to all three involved it was a joke but a well timed one and thus perfect to relieve some tension.

"How about we find the family of three that looks after and maintains the property?" Izumi asked, giving them all a way forward and moments later they were back to exploring their new home grounds, though with an actual goal in mind this time. As they checked the place out, they kept an eye out for any of the three housekeepers. Unfortunately, they were to be dissapointed, as they were fated to fail in their task until half an hour later when they all gathered at the front door to the mansion itself where Jack already awaited them. Based on his calm and relaxed expression though it was hard to tell he would not be content with waiting a few hours more.

During the time kids explored the garden, Jack had slowly walked towards the main mansion, taking in his surroundings as well, though he was deep in though as well, already thinking of places he should choose as gateways to several concealed reams he would construct once enough matter for such actions would be collected. of course a sealing formation should be formed beforehand, though thanks to his previous escapades in the divine realm in future that would not come to be, he had plenty of such formations in mind, though once again he was lacking the necessary matter for it all.

Secondly, Jack's eyes roamed towards the second group that was exploring the garden right now- namely the farmer five and, surprisingly, Viki, who had quickly formed a bond with the farmer squad as though they were always meant to click. 'I suppose as a half dryad, Viki must have some innate affinity towards anyone whose class has something to do with growing plants and the like.' he thought, forming a rudimentary, yet mostly logical reason, banking the idea to be explored at a later time when he would not be so swarmed with more immediate issues to solve. Right now that would mostly involve things regarding security and redecoration of rooms their new owners deemed necessary, as well as forming a couple of training fields and perhaps even a gym or two since he had the capabilities for such actions. And, once again thanks to his time in the divine realm, he could automate large parts of their new home thanks to his knowledge of superior mana devices and mana generators that were used to feed them.

"Haaah!" he sighed "I will be quite busy in the coming few weeks it seems, assuming kids will start bringing me some better stuff to dematerialize."

"Actually....." he suddenly dragged the word out, a rather ingenious idea coming to his mind to solve the problem he previously had considered a great obstacle for their development. Then, with a smile on his face he proceeded forward, now gazing upon the main mansion and appreciating it's non brown colors. He was somewhat at a loss though, for no matter how he looked at the place, either the main building or the whole property together, he could not come to a decisive explanation as to why this particular place would be named Raven's roost. In the end, he just sighed and put that confusing question aside and decided to simply ask Ramia the next time they would meet. With that, he slunk inside a rather cozy looking garden chair near the man entrance of the mansion as he waited for everyone to finish their preliminary exploration of the garden and other buildings, while at the same time messing around with the fresh solution to most of his supply problems.

  --------------------------

The main mansion building was a four story high building, nothing too impressive when compared to the height of engineering genius that could be observed back on earth, nor all that impressive when compared to a few of the more standout buildings in this city alone, less so in the capital cities of the more advanced and developed nations and even less so still when compared to the divine realm. Still, the mostly white, marble like stone that it was built from radiated a special kind of warmth when one looked at it, elevated thanks to the mostly brown city all around them. Relatively large, clear glass window rows filled each of the floors, no doubt providing the rooms within with plenty of sunlight and fresh air should said windows be kept open. Nothing so far indicated that cold winters with large blankets of snow plagued the region, though Jack would not be surprised if a century long winter suddenly assaulted the plane and forced everyone within to adapt or perish- he had heard stories more weird and bizzare in the divine realm.

The main entrance door was well crafted, seemingly without a single splinter present to assault the soft tissue of unaware visitors and a clear lack of creaking as it was opened spoke volumes of how well maintained it was, clearly the housekeepers believed it was a must to maintain the mansion to the best of their abilities. Jack had noticed that the path leading through the garden could have used some extra attention, though now he was also well aware of the main focus of the housekeepers. With only three of them here, some areas were bound to be taken care les and less, though he would soon solve that particular issue as well.

"Greetings master!" three voices clearly resounded the moment Jack stepped inside the building, followed along by everyone else of his group, only to be met by the housekeeper trio, bowing to them and greeting them. With that said, the housekeepers rose from their bows and locked their eyes on Jack, clearly informed of his features as the new owner of the place.

"My name is William." the only man of the trio spoke as he placed his right arm over his chest and made a slight bow once more. He was a middle aged man of average height, with brown hair and blue eyes. Short, brownish stubble covered his chin and upper lip, giving him a presence of a layman or some similar working man. He was neither too thin nor fat, indicating access to at least decent meals for the family.

"My wife Alana." he then gestured towards the middle aged woman right next to him. She had natural dark gray hair pulled in a simple ponytail, a somewhat gentle face and green eyes. A few wrinkles could be seen in the corners of her eyes, a clear indication of the rather large workloud she was no doubt dealing with, including both the work around the property and taking care of the family as the one lording over the hearth.

"Mansion master." she curtsied with the introduction, displaying the clearly high class etiquette she had been taught. There was some hidden grace within her movements that could not be suppressed even by the rather worn out skirt and shirt she was wearing.

"And our daughter Marta." William introduced the last person present, as numerous eyes locked on the girl no older than sixteen. She had light brown hair, somewhat a paler version of Williams colour, green eyes she had inherited from her mother, though there was a spark of inquisitiveness that betrayed her youth and lack of real hardship and hard work. She had a lithe figure, no doubt still waiting for that one last growth spurt to properly fill out her curves to reach her mother's' proportions, though neither was Alana all that blessed in that regard. She could, at best be considered average in curve department, though she was prettier than one would expect from what was essentially servants or peasants.

"Jack is fine. Most of us here are gifted, and will live here from now on." Jack started, introducing everyone, adding that it was fine if they needed some time to memorize all their names. There were more than ten of them and none were some young master types to be offended over such a small matter. "I believe there was some sort of an arrangement between your family and the previous owners, seeing as you are still taking care of the place. Do enlighten me if you would be so kind so we can see if maybe there is a chance we could come to a similar one that satisfies us all."

"Yes sir. We would be more than happy to do so." William replied, pulling out a contract and presenting it to him. "Our previous agreement. I might not understand and misrepresent some nuances of it were I to recount it." he explained the reasoning behind his actions, earning a slight smile from Jack.

"No worries. This actually helps us more, since as you said, you might have missed something that could be quite important." Jack replied and quickly read through the contract, then passing it over to Izumi and Emi. "Check it out and tell me if you see something underhanded towards William's family. We have no need for such obscure methods should there be any."

The two girls went over it for a few minutes, during which Jack gave the rest of his group the go ahead to explore the first floor, leaving second and third to be explored later when Emi and Izumi were free so the best rooms would not unfairly be called dibs on without them there to discuss it all. Since Emi and Izumi did a lot of work for the group, it was only fair they got priority on picking their rooms.

With the rest scattering around, Jack, Izumi, Emi and the housekeeper family moved towards the nearest study and sat down around a rather large sized table. Neither of the trio had the time to appreciate the rather light and happy colour scheme of the inside as they were locked in on the contract and its content. In the end, Emi concluded there were no nefarious clauses added to the obvious system contract and that the contract itself was acceptable for Jack and his side. There were a few slight additions to the contract, such as confidentiality clause that prevented information about the property, its new residents and things happening inside to be extracted, in return providing the family of three with additional monthly stipend and extra allowances for space taken, basically removing any concern the family might have about them growing larger. William and Alana were still young enough and Marta was stepping in that age where all girls start dreaming of their own, ideal man and family of their own. So long as Marta's husband to be would be willing to accept the same contract, they could grow their family in Raven's roosts employ.

William did apologise about their inability to keep the entirety of the property in the best shape, but Jack dismissed the concern of the man, perfectly aware that with just three pairs of hands it was not reasonable to expect them to be able to do that. Jack also told them to maintain their focus as is, but also to leave the now filled room maintenance and cleaning to their new occupants. A bit of discipline and the basic level of chores were entirely natural to expect said occupants to perform and take care of. There was no way Jack would allow the kids to be spoiled too much and develop bad habits because of his inactivity.

Once the family of three and their issues were resolved, Jack sent Izumi and Emi off to joint the rest of the group and raid the upper floors to choose their rooms while he himself took the time to take in his surroundings. Unlike the outside walls that were smooth, the inner ones had all manner of reliefs engraved in them, with some rooms having their walls painted in single colours, forming a special sort of feeling for anyone who stayed in them. Light green rooms with motifs of leaves and grass, conjuring similar feeling to that of resting in a field of grass right next to a forest. Rooms in bright yellow colour that made one feel as if they were now in a field of crops right before harvest. There was even a light blue room that made one feel as though they were floating in a pleasantly warm water, as if bereft of worldly troubles.

It was clear each and every sensation was caused by very particular and quite complex magical formation, and while said formations would escape most peoples senses, Jack's spirit was far beyond what would ever be expected to roam this plane, thus said formations and their principles were laid bare to him. Yet another pleasant surprise that Jack would happily tap into to perhaps acquire new inspiration for awesome inventions that would either strengthen his own or kids foundations.

Whether it was thanks to his high spirit, or because of his age, Jack noticed he could appreciate the building itself at a much greater level than everyone else, though he did not chastise anyone for it. Instead, he kept on exploring at his own leisure, ignoring the chaos that was forming as war for rooms began. Thankfully, Jack had Carla, Alonso and his farmer squad to squish any conflict at the base of it, limiting the chaos to relatively low levels.

The stairs towards upper floors were made of the same white, marble like stone and seemed as though they were cut from a single, overly large slab, causing Jack to wonder just how long ago was this building made and just who and how had they brought the material over here, or was it perhaps here to begin with, in which case a whole other plethora of questions arose, for based on a quick scan of the marble like slab that now served as stairs, Jack stared to doubt more and more the possibility of it being brought here, though once again he stacked the question away to be explored another time, returning his focus to the building at hand.

Ascending to the second floor, Jack noticed that study and guest rooms that filled the first floor were now replaced with bedrooms, playrooms and a small number of utility rooms, all allocated with surprising amount of thought behind them, ensuring that whoever lived here would not be inconvenienced in any way no matter which bedroom was occupied. Each bedroom had their own large scale closet attached to them alongside a personal bathroom, all decked out with rudimentary and quite crude, for Jack's divine realm standards of course, though perfectly functional magitech that ensured said bathrooms were kept quite clean and fresh. Something Jack would have upgraded eventually, but would serve for now.

The rest of the day was spent in a similar fashion, as everyone within the group scoured the mansion, picked their rooms and proceeded to write down things they would like changed about said chosen room, no doubt piling up tasks for Jack to deal with- he was the crafter and supposed guild to be leader. It was only natural he took a large part in resolving their imminent troubles so the guild could start their exploration and development.

Thankfully, the farmers were the easiest to satisfy, since they desired for almost no immediate changes, only to be shown which corner of the garden could they start transforming into their first herb garden. As it turned out, much to Jack's glee, after numerous talks with Viki, Alonso and pals were quite eager to try and grow Crystal karias. Not only had they heard how much Jack liked the plant, but Viki had shown plenty of confidence in her own ability to facilitate precisely that plants growth. Thus, since farmer squad was the first one done with their selection, having picked rooms no one else seemed to vie for, they searched Jack out with their request, thus off together they had then gone, in search of precisely the spot Viki believed to be the best for growing Crystal karias.

Unfortunately, even with scouring the entire garden more than once, the group did not find a prime spot for the plant. A couple of places were decent ab best, though that was still leagues above what Vikia had to work with back in her shack of a shop. Jack simply smiled and asked her to do with what they had for now and, if possible, to create elaborate explanation on what kind environment she believed would best be suited for Crystal karia's growth, pointing out that Viki did not have to limit herself to the surroundings of this place. If she believed ocean's floor to be the best place, she should write it as such, and so on and so forth. Jack did not need feasibility. What he wanted was her gut feeling.

With Farmer squad and Viki satisfied for the time being, the group returned to the mansion where most of disputes had died down and the remaining group had found a room to call their own, or in Kaedes and Kenji's case- a single room for both. With a wicked grin, Jack called the lovebirds over, leading them away from the rest of the group and once they were out of their sight and earshot, he brought the other two closer to himself, taking on his best shady merchant expression as he theatrically glanced around a few times before finally reaching inside his inner pocket- a gesture clearly more made for dramatic effect than actual purpose since he would take whatever he needed to out of his spatial ring anyways.

"I did promise you two something a while back did I not? I am happy to announce that I have finally managed to scrounge up enough matter to deliver. here you go and enjoy." Jack spoke as he fished out a rather simple looking gray ring and handed it to Kaede who stretched her hand out on reflex though there was a questioning expression on her face, clearly confused about any promises made by Jack he had not kept. Said confused expression was quickly replaced by a full blown blush that colored her face scarlet once she held the item, no doubt reading its description.

Ring of true protection(epic)- There are as many explanations of what true protection actually means. Some would say it's providing adequate defence for ones body, others would say the same about mind, others still would cite one's soul as the most in need of such protection. For a young and healthy couple still in the very start of their adventurous lives however, said protection lies elsewhere. To be allowed to have all manner of spicy escapades and not to worry about dire consequences that would irreversibly change their lives some nine months later- now that is the true protection. Go young lovebirds and conquer the bedroom so legends could be told of your actions generations later- While worn by a female, prevents conception and provides additional vigor.
