Chapter 6: Huzzah! part one (17)

  Chapter 6: Huzzah!

The group walked out of the meeting room, The Swords of Darkness walking behind Calvaria’s group. The other group had told them their party name, and Calvaria’s group of three had told them the name that they had come up with on the spot. It was Darkness, in case if anyone was wondering.

They were walking down the stairs as a voice peeked out form the rest of the dim and white noise of the adventuring guild.

“Miss Calvaria!” it was the guild receptionist, her chest that was somehow rger than Anna’s bobbing as she hopped above the heads of adventurers’.

Calvaria’s blood ran cold, colder than it usually ran as she was undead, for but a moment as she felt someone’s gaze bor into her. She turned her head to see Anna with an air of a smile underneath her cheap helmet. The coldness didn’t fade, though.

Calvaria had a feeling that she maybe shouldn’t stare at the woman’s just any longer. It was also just pin rude, so she would have stopped anyway. Her Emotional suppression skill didn’t kick in though, as she wasn’t spooked enough for it to do so.

After the guild employee made another noise of urgency, Calvaria turned her head back to the woman with a most-definitely-average bust size. The woman then spoke up. Her tone of voice was slightly urgent, as if her job were on the line.

“Miss Calvaria! A Mister Nfirea Bareare here to request a job from you!” she said rather loudly.

The Swords of Darkness seemed shocked by this revetion. Calvaria and the other two members of her newly named party simply looked at each other, before they remembered who that was supposed to be.

They had spoken to the other adventuring group in the meeting room about several things. The main thing that they had spoken about was the fact that they were obviously outsiders to this city. The one thing that they had talked about other than that, was really only talents.

Nfirea Bareare was the most infamous, or rather famous talent holder in the city. He could use any magic item without training or, assumedly, level and job requirements. That was rather useful, everyone agreed to that.

Before Calvaria could walk down to her level, to ask some questions about said job that had just been asked, and to possibly decline, as she wished to hold onto her reputation as a honorable personage. Yet, a young man arrived.

He had hair covering the eyes of his face. his hair was a deep blonde or brown, and he smelt of homemade cologne. Well, high quality cologne, but it still smelt of its infancy. Calvaria shook her head in her mind, getting back on track.

He was just about to speak, when Nabe jumped in front of Calvaria, and put her hand on her bde handle. Calvaria frowned at such an action, as it was antagonistic to diplomacy, and Karate chopped her on her head.

She leaned in close after the doppelganger clutched her head. Actions like these couldn’t happen, and she made sure to tell her this. Nabe seemed extremely remorseful at this.

“What are you thinking?” she hissed into the other woman’s ear, “don’t antagonize the locals!” she hissed once more.

She then turned from the, now saddened, Nabe to the boy who was she supposed was Nfirea. She then spoke, her tone was that of a business woman. Her hand raised to indicate that she wanted him to hear her words first.

“I am the copper ranked adventurer, Calvaria. I assume you, young man, are Nfirea Bareare?” she asked him, and he nodded. “Alright, then I am afraid that I may have to reject your job offer as I already have a job with these adventurers behind me,” she said, then indicated with her hands to the Swords of Darkness.

Peter decided that he wanted to put his two cents in. He leaned in, and spoke his mind to her in a hushed tone. He was ever-so slightly directing her gaze to the young man’s face. There was a slightly dejected look on the potion maker’s face.

“This deal is good for you! You can more easily spread you name like this,” he said his piece.

Then Calvaria decided to expin what she thought. After all, it wouldn’t do to bring miscommunications into the mix, would it now? She sucked in a slight sigh and spoke.

“Yes, but I would be going back down on our deal that we’ve made. I wouldn’t want that. After all, what use is my word then?” she stated, the man had no idea how to respond to that.

She then looked at the pensive look on the young man’s face. Nfirea seemed like he had something to say at this moment. Calvaria could feel a headache coming on, yet Emotional Suppression took care of that and she sighed as the skill activated. She then decided to fix this.

“Ok,” she said exasperatedly, “how about we talk about this more in the meeting room? there we will be able to hash out the details in a better pce other than the middle of the guild hall?” she asked both groups, and they nodded their heads.

  …

“Ok, alright! The job would be you, Calvaria and your party, accompanying me to a vilge called Carne to collect some rather rare herbs that make rather potent healing potions,” Nfirea expined, and this got a nod from Calvaria.

Several thoughts went through the undead overlord’s head as she listened. The first thing was that she herself wasn’t really interested in this. at least, not right now. Sure, it would boost her and her party’s reputation. Yet, she couldn’t make as many connections, nor could she spread the word of own death cult, that she invented for the purposes of, “correcting,” the more self-destructive cultures of this world.

Yet if she went with both, she would be able to spread the name of her faith to many more people. After all, if Nfirea Bareare and the Swords of darkness heard of it and at least spread its name to those who would hear her out.

Any publicity was good publicity, at least that was what the corpos said. She had reason to listen to their proverbs this time, at least. Though, it did leave a slightly bad taste in her mouth. She then spoke up.

“What is Peter’s group was brought into this deal?” she asked Nfirea, and he tilted his head to the side.

“The Swords of darkness have both a ranger and a druid on their party roster. We only have three members, and we only have basic detection spells that aren’t well suited to this job. If they came with, it would be easier,” Anna picked up on Calvaria’s thoughts.

“That’s actually a good idea,” Nfirea said, intrigued, “what do you think? Mr. Peter Muak?” Nfirea said with a slight business tilted tone of voice.

After Peter heard this, he closed his eyes and thought for a minute. Then he looked around his own group, getting nods from their heads. He then smiled and stretched out his own hand.

“You got yourself a deal!” he said, and Calvaria smiled underneath her helm.
