Chapter 5: School, part one (14)

  Chapter 5: School

Vistilia walked down the hallway. On each of her sides were many doors that led to the many cssrooms of the first, second, third, and fourth years. There was twenty rooms in all, five for each year.

In effect, it made the school feel rather filled. Like it was supposed to be crowded all the time. Of course, this wasn’t the only school in the city, there was 15 other schools just like this one. The design of the rooms and the building itself made her think that the builders didn’t think that there would be this many people in the city itself.

She shook her head of such thoughts. Now was the time for schooling, not for wondering things like that. Yes sure, she might be an adult in the body of a child, yet she still hadn’t been to school since she was young in her past life. In fact, she was slightly confused as to why all the Isekai protagonists acted like they remembered everything from their past life.

As she got to the st room, simply marked, “One of first,” she noticed the sounds of paper coming from the room. This was the room that the secretary had suggested for her. Vistilia stepped inside, only to see a rather rge room lined with desks her size.

The room was strangely college-like. The floor descended slightly, and reached the central area where the teacher’s desk was. Behind the desk was a board of bck stone, what Vistilia could only assume to be the bckboard. The person, to whom she could only assume was the teacher, was hard at work writing on a piece of paper.

The floor was den with a very forgiving wood. It was probably a softwood, in all honesty. It was light, with light reflecting off of its polished surface. The desks were next in her line of sight, and they were rather normal. While she found that strange, she brushed it off as she stepped into the cssroom.

As soon as her foot stepped onto the floor, a creak could be heard. The teacher raised his head slowly at the sound. Vistilia locked eyes with the man, and he let out a slightly tired sigh as he leaned back in his chair.

His hair was a dark brown, with brown eyes as well. His hair was long, with a slightly tired look to it, as if he hadn’t the time to comb it out, only the time to run his fingers through it. He wore a white linen shirt, with pigment stains along the bottom rim. His entire aura reeked of tiredness, like he was close to retirement.

He managed to put this aura away though, and put a smile on his face as if the entirety of the world’s problems had been solved. He spoke, his voice surprisingly was very light, as if he had no weight on his shoulders at all. It was rather strange to see this sudden change in vibe.

“Hello little one, what’s your name? are you in the right pce?” he asked, his voice kind, “sometimes kids go to the wrong cssroom, it’s rather common.”

“The dy at the front said that I was early. My name is Vistilia, daughter of Leris. I was told to come at 9:00 am, instead of 9:30. So I’m here, where do I put my lunch?” she asked, her tone of voice calm and collected as always.

The teacher nodded his head, and looked down at his desk. There, he checked the many papers with many names on them. While he did so, Vistilia looked around the room. It was then that she noticed the amount of desks, it was around fifty after she counted them. She was about to ask why there so many, when he spoke.

“Yes, you belong in this css. Just pick a seat and you can put your packed lunch in your desk. It opens,” he expined, and went back to his paperwork, “Simply sit there, and wait for a few minutes. When everyone gets here, I’ll give you a name tag for your chair, alright, Miss Vistilia?” he said, his tone light and whispery.

She nodded her little head, and walked over to the nearest desk. The room, while rge, had a isle down the middle of it leading to the board and the exit. It was a rather well put together design, if a bit adult-ish. Vistilia doubted that children could really learn in such a mature looking area. Yet, the school was built this way, so it must have been effective.

She looked at the room some more as she opened up the oddly earth-like desk, and studied the room as she put her lunch in the desk that held all the books that she would need. The books looked simple enough, with basic words and numbers and pictures.

She looked away from them, then to the rest of the room. It was ten that she noticed the name tag on the desk that the teacher sat behind. How she had missed such a thing, she would never know. The tag itself read, “Mr. Gleytwor.”

It was then that she moved her gaze to the ceiling, in which it was peaked. Covered in a dark blue pster, so as to mimic the sky, or at least one would assume to mimic the sky. It filled her mind with images of the road that her family had driven down.

The walls were covered in a dark green pster as well. With images of trees and animals decorating them. It was a rather childish form of decoration, in retrospect. Yet then again, she supposed that it was supposed to be so. After all, this was a room for children.

It wasn’t that long until a bell from some far-off tower chimed, as there were many bell towers to tell the time, and the sounds of doors being opened could be heard. Vistilia, all this time, had been reading one of the books in the desk she now sat at. from what she could tell, all the desks had these books in them. Many of them were simply books about letters and other such things. Some were fairy tales, made to educate the cssmates she was to have.

Vistilia herself had been taught by her father since she was three years old to read and write. While she could still do math, she had yet to be educated in the symbols and such of this world. She could still do math though.

It was then that she heard the sounds of the teacher grabbing things from his desk and putting them away in the underside of it. As he looked up, he smiled at her, and spoke. His voice calm.

“Now, your cssmates are going to get here rather soon, and I am hoping that they will be as polite as you,” he said, maybe a bit too loudly for her ears.

She could hear their feet as they stepped into the cssroom, their lunches and other such things held in their hands as the fifty children looked around the room. Vistilia turned around in her seat by the aisle to look at them. Her eyes meeting many of theirs, and they looked away for some odd reason.

Ther many children had many different looks about themselves. Some had dark skin, some had light. though, all of them looked around the room in a mix of wonder and trepidation. A strange feeling bubbled up from Vistilia’s gut at this, though. It was like a feeling of dread.

Many of the kids didn’t seem to want to be near her. While yes, she was used to other people ignoring her, she had actually wanted to get these people to like her. she wanted people to talk to. Yet, after a minute or so, someone entered the room who she knew.

  …

Gaia had been in this room before. In fact, she had sat in the very chair she was looking at right now. While she felt bad for accidently telling Vistilia that the first day started at 9:00 am instead of 9:30, it seemed like she didn’t mind. At least, she it looked like she didn’t mind at all.

As she walked down the aisle, and sat to the left of the girl to whom she thought of as a good friend already, she smiled at her. Yet then, she noticed something. The other kids seemed to be avoiding her. She wondered why?
