“Hey! I created an outline of how the laws should work and started with the basic laws. I didn’t just leave it to you!”
Brightfire says “True, you laid the groundwork, I will give you that. Have you checked on it since?”
“Actually, yes! I am still connected to the network. I get reports!”
Brightfire says “Really? And you actually check them?!”
“Well, not everyday, but yes, I have been checking them!”
Brightfire says “Alright, I take it back. You aren’t just leaving everything to us, just most of it.”
“That’s better.”
Brightfire says “Wait, just how are you still connected to the network?!”
“Oh, I made some modifications so that my crown could use the gate network to stay connected to the normal network.”
Without a word Brightfire takes off her crown and hands it to me while giving me a look. I keep my mouth shut and get to work on her crown while Grimgar is laughing at me. Making the change is easy enough, but I make a few other improvements while I am at it.
As I am working on the crown I can vaguely hear Grimgar and Brightfire talking about the laws. When I finish the crown and hand it back to her, I find that Kirito is awake and in her lap. I’m guessing she intercepted him to stop him from disturbing me while I was working.
All it takes is me patting my lap once and he jumps over and starts licking my hand. I give him some attention while Grimgar and Brightfire finish their conversation. Asuna shapeshifts, shrinks, and joins Kirito on my lap to beg for her share of attention.
She has been acting more mature while taking care of him so it is easy to forget that she is still young. As I am petting her and Kirito, I realize I haven’t been giving my other kids the attention they deserve. In the soulscape I either help them practice or let them run around playing together.
None of them have complained about it as far as I know, but I still need to do better. I will start tonight and spend more time playing with them in the soulscape. That will have to do until I get back from this trip, then I will spend time with them.
For now, I will make sure to give Asuna and Kirito the attention they deserve. It also gives me an excuse not to pay attention to the conversation about the laws. I will happily leave that to Brightfire, that kind of conversation is way too boring.
Unfortunately, the conversation keeps up until the caravan stops for the night. Grimgar politely refuses to join us, he wants to contact his people and relay some orders. He does however agree to join us for dinner, it is hard to turn down delicious food.
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.
Luckily, the conversation over dinner is more normal with no mention of the laws. Grimgar excuses himself as soon as he is done eating and Asuna takes Kirito to bed with her. As soon as we are alone, Brightfire and I head into the bedroom and start having some fun.
We keep things limited so that Brightfire doesn’t end up completely exhausted. Once we are done, I open the soulscape and invite everyone as usual, but Lin doesn’t show up. I am guessing that means that she has already entered the archmage trial and won’t be joining for a while.
Once they arrive, I call the kids over, wait until they are gathered around me, and then use my imagination to modify myself. I give myself a dozen extra arms and make them all stretchy to increase my reach. Then I use them to start petting and scratching all of the kids at once while my wives watch.
I literally smother the kids with affection and their reactions tell me that they are loving it. After a while of that, I shapeshift, shrink, and start a game of tag with the kids. I keep the game going until the kids are exhausted and then after they leave I spend time with my wives.
“How did the summoning go? Should I be inviting Leafa and Damona?”
Mercy says “The summoning went well and they are working on getting used to our world. Don’t invite them yet, let them get comfortable first.”
Myria says “Leafa wouldn’t answer anyway. She is busy getting to know the tree. We couldn’t even get her to join us for dinner.”
“I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at that. What about Damona?”
Sero says “Oh, she has been busy trying to get all of us in bed.”
Kreno laughs and says “Not just trying!”
Myria says “She simply doesn’t want to meet you until Leafa is with her.”
“Alright, that’s fine. As long as she isn’t causing problems.”
Mercy says “No, no problems. In fact, she has already made several good suggestions. I think she is going to be quite useful.”
“That’s good.”
Mercy says “So, how come I didn’t get an upgrade to my crown so that I could keep up with my work?!”
“Um, because I didn’t think of it?”
Mercy says “Well, when Sero and Kreno switch places with Brightfire, they will be bringing our crowns to be upgraded! Also, we are going to need something for Damona and Leafa to be able to access the network.”
“Oh, right, I can do that.”
Mercy says “Good answer! We may not need it right now, but it would be nice to have just in case.”
“Sure, but this is not for everyone, just us. Too many people trying to use the gate network to communicate would cause problems.”
Sero says “Does that include the two of us?”
“Of course. I already said that except for making it official, you two are my wives as well. I realize that me also having a relationship with your other selves might make this a little weird, but I hope you don’t doubt that I care for you.”
Kreno says “I sure don’t! Don’t mind her, she is just wanting reassurance.”
Sero says “Don’t say it like that! You are making me sound so needy!”
I laugh as I move over, take Sero into my arms, and give her some extra affection. I do my best to give her the reassurance that she needs, but it is hard with Kreno continuing to tease her. However, it seems that Kreno goes a little too far and Sero turns things around on her.
Not only does Sero instigate the fun, but she takes charge for once and orders everyone else around. She leads everyone to focus on Kreno, but she doesn’t seem to mind. If anything, I would say she is enjoying her sister being the dominant one for once.
It definitely puts a different spin on our fun and to my surprise Sero stays in charge the rest of the time. I thought for sure she would go back to normal after the first round, but that doesn’t happen. She manages to stay in charge for all of the rounds we go through before ending the soulscape.
