Unfortunately, my lightning did a number on their hides and they are now worthless. Not that they were all that good to begin with, they are fairly low rank beasts. Their meat is also half-charred and doesn’t smell at all appealing, so I ignore it.
I get back into the air and resume flying around looking for something worth hunting. Although, this time I pay a little more attention to make sure nothing surprises me again. I’ve been overconfident again, if I wasn’t immune to poison I might have been in trouble.
I fly around unsuccessfully until the sun starts to come up, then I turn back to camp. Lizzy is awake when I land outside the cabin and she gives me a dirty look. I shapeshift into human form, stick my tongue out at her, and head into the cabin to wake up Mercy.
Once we have had some fun, we head outside to have breakfast with the others. Lizzy is giving me dirty looks the entire time, but she doesn’t say anything just yet. However, I can tell from the looks she is giving me that I am going to hear about it at some point.
Luckily, she manages to hold off until the caravan is moving and then insists that I ride up front. Then for the next hour she lectures me about running off to hunt without her. The answer that she was sleeping when I left is completely ineffective.
However, once she gets it out of her system I am allowed to go back inside the carriage. Mercy and I cuddle as we watch the lands pass and chat about random things. The day ends up being uneventful, but it is still a pleasant trip and we stop early when we reach the city.
Again Amn has rented out two entire hotels for the caravan to use, the rider he sent ahead took care of it. We arrive a few hours before dark and as soon as we are settled in, Mercy and I leave. In the time remaining before sunset we manage to find every furniture store in the city.
I find it fairly exhausting, but Mercy is obviously having a great time so I don’t complain. I don’t even pay attention to how much money we are spending, I just let Mercy get whatever she likes. We probably already have enough to furnish the cabin, but that won’t stop her from shopping in the next city.
When we get back to the hotel she makes me bring out the cabin so that she can decorate. Luckily, the inn has a large enough yard for me to do so, but it takes a lot longer than I was expecting. Mercy places everything that we just bought, but then she immediately starts rearranging everything.
However, she is having fun so I just sit back and let her do whatever she wants. She takes a break when she gets hungry and we head into the hotel to have dinner with the rulers. They have finally stopped talking about the desert and are discussing the kingdom we are now in.

From what I hear, they all like the king we are heading to meet, even Gremshow. Mavel is even planning to make sure her daughters get the chance to meet the king’s son. Apparently he is already married, but she is fine with them being a second wife.
Luckily, she won’t force them, but if they like him and his current wife, it is an option. I don’t even try to get involved in that conversation, I just eat my food and keep my head down. Mercy, however, does make some comments, but she is more knowledgeable about political marriages.
To my relief, that topic doesn’t last long and the talk turns to less serious things. All in all, it is a pleasant evening, but after dinner Mercy wants to stay in the cabin. What she really wants is to spend more time redecorating, but I veto that idea.
There is no way that I want to spend the night watching her do that, not when we have a hotel room to play in. Despite having magic to do it, there is something fun about a room that someone else has to clean. Mercy is a little disappointed, but she doesn’t put up too much resistance.
We have several rounds of fun, making a mess of the entire room, and then she falls asleep. I manage to nap for about an hour, then I open the normal soulscapes. After that, I figure it is too late to get any hunting done and instead spend some time in my soul palace.
I spend the time until morning grooming Maximus and playing around with the palace storage. Images take up more space than text, so I fill the current storage with my favorite books. I am going to have to do some serious expanding of the palace if I want to keep even half of what's in my head.
That means that I need to find time to get back to exploring the hallway, maybe once I level up. For now, that is going to be my priority so that I can summon my angel. The sooner I do that, the more chance she will be ready by the time I need her.
I don’t know the gender the angel will be yet, but I still think of it as a her because of my luck. I am still hoping for a male angel, I have more than enough women in my life as is. Although, it shouldn’t be long now before I get to find out, just another hunt or two and I should level up.
However, once I do, that will be a path to increase my strength that is closed to me. I will have to focus on other things from that point on and my options are somewhat limited. Eventually, I get the feeling that I am going to reach the point where I have no more ways to get stronger.
Well, other than waiting for my age to improve my strength, like dragons do, but I don’t get that option. I will be long dead before I could even be counted as more than a baby dragon. Even if I manage to extend my life, the way I do things is bound to get me killed sooner rather than later.
Thinking that way, I should probably move my soul palace up on the priority list. I have no idea what my next life might be like, but I know there are a lot of things I don’t want to forget. That isn’t just books and stuff from my last life, I have made a lot of memories here that I don’t want to lose.
The problem is that no matter how I improve the palace, there is no way that I can take everything. That means that I need to figure out what is most important to me, knowledge or emotional stuff. Before Lin came into my life, the answer would have been knowledge, but now it’s not so simple.
There are memories of my wives and my kids that I absolutely don’t want to lose, ever. The problem is that memories like that take up the most space, even more than movies. Even if I limit it to one memory of each one, I would need ten times the storage I currently have.
