Dragon says “Four wings? That certainly isn’t a dragon trait!”
“Maybe not, but it does explain why my flight speed increased.”
Dragon says “It probably comes from the celestial part of your bloodline. What race are you now?”
“Hold on, I’ll check. Character Screen!”

“Apparently I am now a Celestial Lightning Dragonling.”

Dragon says “A dragonling?! Hahaha how fitting!”
“So, what is a dragonling then?”
Dragon says “No idea, never heard of one before, but it sounds like a weaker form of a dragon. It has dragon in the name which is good enough for us to continue.”
“I don’t suppose you want to give me two more drops of blood so I can evolve again?”
Dragon says “Not a chance! Go convince some other dragon to give up their blood if you want more.”
“I’m guessing that it wasn’t just normal blood?”
Dragon says “Of course not. Do you think normal blood would have had that kind of effect? It was infused with my power. It will take time for me to replace it, but luckily I have plenty of time right now.”
“Alright, just figured I would ask. So, what’s next?”
Dragon says “Next I need to give you our language and then you will need to swear an oath using it. Without the oath, I can’t teach you anything more.”
“What’s the oath?”
Dragon says “Not to share any secrets of the dragons with anyone who isn’t a dragon. Without the oath, if I teach you our language, I can’t let you leave here alive.”
“Sure, I have no problem with that.”
Dragon says “Alright. Um, this is probably going to hurt.”
Before I can respond, he reaches out and touches my head with the tip of his claw. A rush of information hits my head like a tidal wave causing me to scream before passing out. When I wake up, I feel like there are little rabbits with hammers running around smashing the inside of my head.
“Ow! That really hurt!”
Dragon says “Stop! You are speaking in our tongue. Don’t say anything more until you can be sure what language you are speaking. Our language can cause things to happen even if used casually. There is a lot of information included with our language, go through it first.”
I quickly take a look through my mind and start going through the information. The dragon language is just as complex, if not more so, than the language of the gods. It is not what I would call a pure language of magic, but it is close enough that it makes no difference.
Just speaking a word can move the mana in the area and direct it to do something. I can’t wait to run some tests and see just how much I can do with it, but not right now. The dragon probably wouldn’t be too happy with me experimenting this close to his unborn child.
I also don’t fully understand the language, it is going to take me some time to get used to it. For now, I sort it out in my mind so that I won’t use it without realizing it. I carefully think about the words to use and then speak the oath that the dragon requested.
Dragon says “Very good. Now you need to be aware that the oath will kill you if you break it. That is why I had you use our language, oaths in our language become binding spells. So, be careful what you promise if you are speaking our language.”
“Understood.”
Dragon says “Now I can answer all of your questions. To start with, what makes dragons so different is that we are not divided beings. All other beings, except the gods, have three components to them. The body, the spirit, and the soul.”
“I’m familiar with the body and the soul, but where does the spirit come in?”
Dragon says “The spirit, or life force, is the bridge between the other two. It is what allows the soul to have control over the body. You may have seen people who are permanently paralyzed? That is damage to the spirit.”
“Okay. So which two do the gods have?”
Dragon says “When someone ascends, they shed their body and their soul absorbs their spirit. Then, once the ascension is complete, they form a new body from energy.”
“Alright. What about dragons?”
Dragon says “Dragons are unique, as I said. We are born with all three, but change as we age. By the time a dragon reaches adult age, they only have the body. The soul merges into the spirit and then both merge into the body. It gives us an amazing amount of power and a really long lifespan.”
“So, all the strength gets concentrated into the body? Doesn’t that mean you can’t enter the hallway? Wouldn’t that mean that soul attacks are extra effective against you?”
Dragon says “One question at a time please. Yes, all our strength is in our bodies. No, we can’t just send our souls into the hallway, but we can enter physically. We can also split a small part of ourselves off and send that in instead. Yes, soul attacks are our weakness, which is why learning to defend against them is important.”
“Splitting off a part of yourself? Is that the same as creating an avatar?”
Dragon says “It is basically the same, but we use different methods. The gods use their power to create an avatar and that returns to them if it dies. We use a physical part of ourselves so if it dies we are wounded by it and that part is lost.”
“Does that kind of wound recover? Or is it permanent?”
Dragon says “Thanks to our powerful regeneration, it will heal, but it takes a considerable amount of time. Normally a few years, but that isn’t much to us.”
“Alright. So, how much of this applies to me right now? I am not a full dragon, so I should remain in three parts, right?”
