Ep. 1455 Keeping Busy Part 2

Once I have answered all of the questions, Mercy promises the nobles that she will send them documentation. Once the nobles have left, I ask her to also send the documentation over to Stillwater. He can then spread it to all the other areas that are currently under my control.

I will figure out the merit system and add it to the network once I get back to the capital. That way it can start recording people’s merits, at least in the areas that the network covers. Speaking of, I pull up the map to see how much the network has spread so far.

Sadly, the area with the best coverage is our side of the land bridge, Lizzy has been busy. The rest of the network is spreading much slower and there is only the capital here in the kingdom. Other than that, there is a small line leading from here all the way to Illium.

That should be what Mulan laid down on her way here, we are definitely going to need more coverage. I can raise a large obelisk that will cover the entire city, but we will need more than that. There will need to be coverage of the areas where the nobles have their lands so the system can monitor them.

When Mulan gets back I will ask her if she wants to stay up here and work on spreading the network. If not, then it will have to wait until we have more people who can spread the obelisks. Once Lin has some people enchanting them, it should be easy enough to have some people place them.

For now, I head outside while Mercy is getting things ready for the tour of the city. As much as I would prefer it to be just us, we can’t really get away with that. We are going to have an escort of guards, even though they can’t really protect me.

It is all about perception, but I don’t really see the point, I can protect Mercy from just about anything. It’s not like anyone is likely to attack her in the middle of the city anyway. The nobles may not be happy with her, but her people love her and so does the army.

Still, I will put up with it for now and not make things difficult for Mercy’s people. The fact that they care so much about keeping her safe is reassuring and I don’t plan to discourage them. I am not going to be able to be around all the time so she will need protection the rest of the time.

Although that should be handled by the Queens’ Guard, but they aren’t ready yet. At least, as far as I know they aren’t ready yet, no one has told me otherwise. Brightfire is in charge of them, so I am sure that she will handle getting them ready.

When I check in with her I will see how they are doing and if she needs any help with them. I already plan to upgrade their training room just as soon as I get a chance to. I don’t know if there is really anything beyond that that I can to to help her train them.

Although, now that I think about it, Mercy has a royal guard, I wonder who trains them. I wait until we are just about ready to go and then I ask Mercy about her trainer. Instead of getting a direct answer from her, I just ask her to pass along the information to Brightfire.

Mercy is smart enough to instantly connect the dots and promises to send her trainers to Brightfire. I use the network to send Brightfire a message and suggest that she recruits from Mercy’s guards. Training is all well and good, but real experience trumps it every time.

Now that the idea is planted, I will just trust the two of them and let them figure it out. The guards are ready, along with all the other people that will be going with us. To be honest this looks far less like a tour and more like a full blown parade.

If Mercy thinks that this will help to bring the people firmly on our side, I guess I can put up with it. We are finally ready and leave the palace with our parade of people. Mercy and I walk side by side while the rest of her people surround us.

Touring the city with this many people is nowhere near as fun as it would have been with just me and Mercy. However, fun isn’t the main purpose of this little adventure, so I put up with it. Mercy is obviously enjoying it a lot more than I am and I don’t want to ruin it for her, so I stay quiet.

I don’t really remember what the city looked like before, I was too busy to pay attention at the time. There is still a lot of construction going on, but the shape of the city is easy enough to spot. The streets are in a grid pattern and are nice and wide, enough for two wagons at least.

As we walk through the city, people stop to stare or wave, and there are even a few cheers. I don’t really recognize anyone in particular, but Mercy and I wave at the people. The longer we are walking, the more attention we gather until the streets are lined with people.

It really did end up turning into a parade and it would seem that I am the main attraction. Well, at least this will guarantee that everyone hears about me being here. Those that don’t see me themselves will hear about it from those who did see me.

There are plenty of soldiers, probably off-duty, amongst the crowd and some of them even look familiar. The fight with the rebellion was a long time ago, so I don’t remember any specific people. I mainly just remember the officers that I dealt with directly, but even those are only vague recollections.

However, they probably don’t have the same problem, I am a lot more unique looking. Besides, my actions would have made me pretty memorable, at least they should have. Either way, Mercy’s goal will definitely be accomplished by this little parade through the city.

After doing a full loop through the city we move outside the city to a military camp. There are a lot more familiar faces here, even if I couldn’t name a single one of them. The few I do remember well enough to know their names, I call out greetings to.

I really should have a better memory considering how high my intelligence stat is. I think the problem is the sheer amount of information that I have crammed into my head. Just what I got along with the dragon language is enough to fill a couple of libraries.

I think my brain just prioritizes what to keep in my memory, not that I would choose differently. Some information is just more important and names of people I only met once aren’t as important. We do a round of the military camp and then we finally head back to the palace.
