An Afterword. Just a Quick One.

  That’s how this story ends.

  Broken.

  …

Just kidding. There’s more story to come.

I may be cruel, but I’m not that cruel.

This story has gone through so many revisions that it’s hard to remember how the original draft even looked. If not for the character designs and sketched drafts on my hard drive, I probably wouldn’t know at all what it looked like.

  For example, meet this dude.

He was originally introduced alongside Willow to be a companion character whose own identity would mirror Jinyoung’s own in many ways. In that version, Han was stuck around after the Seorak Outbreak and Willow left the party after the second act.

He was originally scripted to be a close-quarters character who was well dressed, skillful and had all the advantages of a member of the upper class.

  “So what changed?”

  Seunghyo.

Once I realized the part Seunghyo had to play, everything shifted. Willow’s own story arc shifted while the relationship between Jinyoung and Hana took center stage. Everything that we learn about Hana is meant to draw comparisons with her “older” brother. She can easily dispatch groups of monsters while Jinyoung has trouble following basic orders.

This story has been unlawfully obtained without the author's consent. Report any appearances on Amazon.

And Seunghyo needed to be here to remind Hana of her life before Jinyoung’s return, the good and the bad.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was at least a little excited to kill a character. Especially one who I’d “written” so much head cannon for. Everything from him nervously flexing his hands when he lied to Hana to carefully making sure he could have internal justifications for his lies.

Writing the actual scene wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. The beginning was written and joining it to the ending was relatively simple.

No, the hard part was the day after.

I took the subway home from work and… I felt sick to my stomach. I had written and re-written this death earlier that week and I was working on a few sketches to get through the process and it hit me.

It felt a bit overdramatic, but it hit like a gut punch.

I stepped away from the story for a bit, just so I could get some air away from the story for a bit.

  The Ice Queen

Muyeon is a character who was changed at the last minute, literally right before the story was being written. The only aspects of the character which remained were the spear and… well, actually that’s it.

I wanted to introduce a small twist in the litRPG formula by paying homage to a different genre of gaming. Muyeong was written to use mechanical mobile armor that covers her fully from head to toe as well as a melee energy weapon. There’s only one image of her in the story, but yes, she’s designed to be a mech.

On her world, “players” use mechanized suits to fight the invading hordes. If you didn’t get the hints I dropped, her world has progressed much further from their World Break than Jinyoung’s. She’ll be playing an important role in things to come.

Hopefully, you’ve all been enjoying the story. I’m going to take a short breather before starting publication of the next set of episodes. I’ll be back in a week, but until then, I’ll be regularly posting sketches, artwork and other behind the scenes content so stick around.
