Chapter 84: An Ancient Bank Heist

  Saki

I was confused for only a moment before I let go and quickly backed away. The door exploded inward as Tristy hit it point blank range with a fireball. I waited for the smoke to clear before glaring at her. She simply looked at me neutrally before looking away. I sighed and went into the back room.

Inside was a hallway with doors all the way down. I looked at Tristy and she looked at me. “I’ll take the right, you take the left?” I asked. She nodded and we started down the hall. The first door held a desk with some paper on it and an old chair. The next three offices held the same thing. The fourth held something similar, but on the desk looked like a photo.

I picked it up carefully and looked at it. In the picture was a young human man, he had his arm around a young woman and there was a child between them. The little boy in the picture was wearing a blue baseball cap and they were all smiling. It was so realistic, whoever had drawn this must have been a perfect artist, at least SSS Rank!

I gently put the picture back on the desk and turned to leave. To my surprise, Anna was standing behind me. I tensed, but she walked past me and gently picked up the photo. I watched as she stared at the photo for a very long time. She held it to her chest and began to cry quietly. I tried to comfort her but she pushed me away. I turned and left the small room, leaving her with the picture.

The final room was like the first three, after that there was a turn that went left. Following it we entered a larger room with a massive circular metal object. It looked like it weighed thousands of pounds easily.

I pushed on the large metal thing but it didn’t budge. I tried using my earth, but it shattered on impact. Tristy used her strongest fireball and it didn’t even leave a scratch. I sighed as I brought my hand up to use my void energy when Anna appeared. She walked past us in her six year old body and pushed a button on the right side. The red light next to the large circular thing beeped and changed to green. That’s when I realized in shock that it was a door of some kind. It slowly swung towards us, and I had to take a step back.

On the other side of the large door were a lot of small boxes that were locked into the wall. A lot of them needed keys, but the keys were on a chain next to the door inside. We went through and looked through the different boxes and found a lot of strange things. But the most common thing was these rectangular pieces of paper with different numbers on them. Aside form that we found a few gold bars and a few bits of non-enchanted jewelry.

That was it, Anna said nothing, seemingly lost in her own world. Tristy made a point to carry most of the loot herself and I didn’t argue. I had a feeling she was going to try and give it as a gift to Tama.

We made our way back outside of the bank without incident and found Tama standing in front naked. Anna reattached to her and became her gi again. She said nothing, just stood there expectantly. Tristy came out a moment later with most of the stuff we found. She went straight to Tama, fell to her knees and laid out the loot at her feet before bowing.

I rolled my eyes but said nothing. As expected of Tama, she looked uncomfortable and like she wanted to flee. Instead she weakly petted Tristy on the head and said “um… Good slave Tristy!” Tristy practically crooned at the praise from her mistress and I almost gagged.

Tama put everything in her pouch as we watched. Tristy looked very proud of herself and I honestly was just glad nothing went wrong and I wasn’t attacked by her or anyone. We decided to go left and then up. We moved up the street quietly for what felt like an eternity. Normally, I didn’t understand Tama’s impatience, but this whole place was massive and creepy. I wanted to be gone yesterday.

We reached the end of the road and in front of us was a massive looking creature. It looked like Reedril but much smaller. Small however was a misnomer, as it was clearly bigger then most of the buildings here. “One of Reedril’s children” Anna said simply, seemingly lost in thought.

It looked unmoving and dead, so we made our way around it and continued down the road. We walked like that for hours, occasionally running into more spirits. Those car things were all up and down the road. I noticed they seemed to point in a specific direction based on the side of the road they were on.

In the distance we saw a large town surrounded by junk walls. “that must be Surtank, ” I said confidently. I had been trying to remember the name and it had finally occurred to me around twenty minutes ago. I looked over at Tama, but she said nothing. She just nodded and continued walking.

She had barely blinked since we had left the camp. When she had blinked to the roof of the bank earlier, it was the only time I had seen her do it. It really went to show how out of it Tama was. In my opinion, this was a really bad place to have a come to life moment. But life didn’t give you the luxury of choosing. I felt the void inside me practically humming with agreement.

As we got closer, we noticed something odd. There were goblins outside the goblin city walls, and goblins on the walls. The gate was closed. Tama’s ears perked up and she suddenly grinned. She pulled out Serenity and blinked away. I frowned at that, When Tama was in a bad mood, one of the only things that would make her happy…

As we reached closer I finally heard snippets and it was what I had feared. War, The goblins were having a war with each other. We had just walked into a war zone. I turned to Tristy, only to see her also blinking towards the war zone. She said nothing, but kept blinking as far as she could to reach the battle, and thus Tama.

I shook my head and continued walking alone the rest of the way. Let them have their fun, Tama was going to cause havoc today somehow and she had found her muse. I had to walk for another twenty minutes, and by the time I arrived there were a lot of dead goblins on both sides. When I walked up, the goblins raised their weapons at me. They looked terrified, like they had seen a ghost.

I smiled and said “That purple haired cat girl is my friend, if you don’t let me through she will kill you all.” I leaned on my leg and put my hand on my hip. They practically jumped out of the way. It seems Tama had already made an impression in the last twenty minutes. I stepped past the goblins who got out of my way as I walked towards the city. Tama was standing in front of the gate talking to two goblins. They both looked like they had gone to a jewelry store and bought the entire store.

As I reached them I overheard the conversation and knew instantly what had happened. Tama turned to me as I approached and pointed at me, she said something to the goblins and they both looked over at me. One raised an eyebrow and laughed. The other looked at me like he was appraising me, and he didn’t like what he saw. Tristy stood next to Tama, her arms crossed as she glared at the two goblins. There were large explosive craters all around the ground. They looked very clearly like something Tristy would make. That wasn’t counting the dozens of undead goblins.. that were visible. Tama liked to carry her corpses and hide them. Like a dog trying to hide a bone.

I finally reached the small group and before I could say anything the goblin that laughed spoke up. He was wearing twin earrings that dangled like a woman’s earrings would, even though he was clearly a he. “This is the great tactician and warlord you spoke of!” The goblin cackled and pointed at me “This little fox looks like she belongs in one of my special marketplaces!” I noticed Tama visibly wince at that and she glanced that goblin up and down. Still, she said nothing.

I turned to the other goblin, I had assumed also male from a distance, but at closer glance was clearly not. It seemed much like Tama, This goblin had no shame and was shirtless. If the goblin were a male, this wouldn’t be a problem. But her assets weren’t even small, hers were bigger than Tama’s and I could practically feel Tama’s desire to touch before asking why the goblin got to be shirtless but not her… again.

She raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms, further accentuating her.. assets. But said nothing. I grabbed Tama’s arm as it reached for her breasts. “No Tama” was all I said. She slowly retracted her hand and I spoke up “Okay, so, what's the issue here and why are the two of you fighting. Give me details or I give my friend here the go ahead to dismantle your existence.

Both goblins paled at that and glanced at Tama who smiled eagerly. They both turned back to me. The one with earrings said “Perhaps we can come to an agreement after all.” He said weekly. The female goblin just nodded and kept glancing back at Tama nervously.

“Good” I said with a sweet smile as I took a deep breath. Today was going to be a long day. “I would suggest we get out of this area, the weather is horrible today!” I gestured around the war zone with the scattered corpses, blood raining everywhere and the craters.

The earring goblin snapped “You think I would leave my people during a war!” He looked pissed. My smile grew a few inches and I leaned forward. “Yes, I do, ” I said simply.

He visibly paled again and took a step back before nodding. I nodded back and we all walked into the goblin city of Surtank.
