Chapter 78: A Level Above

I sighed and went to ask, but Anna crawled off of Tama, leaving her without clothes. Then she swam over to me and attached herself. Images appeared in my head of Tristy, but from Tama’s perspective, in it, there was this blue screen, and it had Tristy’s title and full name, and under it was like what I had with my royal overlay, but on steroids. I was not even sure what most of these meant, and I just stared in confusion.

I stared at the form for a few seconds before Anna suddenly detached and returned to Tama. The given memory from her went away, but I still had my own copy. What a strange creature Anna was.

Tama was right, Tristy was in fact eighty-four years old. That made her twelve in elf years. But what was a level? Also…

“Tama, if you could see her elements the entire time, why did you ask her?” I asked in frustration.

Tama paused mid-bite, considered my words, then shrugged and said, “Because it is rude to not double-check.”

I stared at the socially inept Nekojin in disbelief. The girl who only yesterday was throwing a twelve-year-old off a twenty-story building and got herself bullied into buying slaves was telling me how rude it was to know someone’s elements without asking.

I felt my head begin to hurt again. “Tama, I just, no, different issue. Tama, what is a level?” I said finally, uncertain how to feel about it all.

Tama paused and thought, and I already knew whatever she was about to say was going to be vague, stupid, or both. So I cut her off. “Tama, just tell me what my level is and yours, if we even have them.”

Tama nodded and said casually, “Well, Tama’s is…”

Before she could finish, Anna spoke up and said, “No. You are definitely reading those wrong, Tama!” Tama paused and looked more perplexed.

After a long moment, she frowned even deeper and asked, “But, Tama is positive, that is a four!”

Anna literally sighed, and for once, I actually felt for the divine water spirit. “No, Tama, that is a forty, not a four!”

Tama nodded and said, “Then Tama is…”

Once again, before she could finish, Anna cut her off. “You are forty-five, Tama, you are level forty-five.” Tama pursed her lips and stared hard into the air, and I wanted to cry. Was fate truly this cruel?

Tama nodded sagely and said, “Tama knew that, she was just testing Anna!” Even as she said this, her tail curled around her leg, and she looked embarrassed. No one, not even Tristy, if she were awake, would believe that for a second. Okay, I take that back. Tristy would probably believe Tama over anything. If Tama told that devout slave girl the moon was purple, she would simply change the color white-blue to mean purple in her mind.

I shuddered at the thought that Tama might actually think the moon was purple. Earth only knows how Tama thought, the enigma that was that girl’s mind. “What about my level, Tama?” I asked curiously, I knew I had to be lower than her, but higher than Tristy, right?

Tama blinked at me, and after a very long moment, she proclaimed, “Level one and five!”

I facepalmed hard before asking, “Do you mean fifteen, Tama?”

Tama looked hard at me, like she was staring into my soul, then Anna spoke, giggling, “No, Tama, that is a fifteen. Saki is right.”

Tama then shrugged and said, “Nya, Saki is level fifteen!”

Suddenly, Anna spoke up, and I felt even more crappy. “Technically, based on Tama’s memories, when she met you, you were level five! During the goblins, you hit seven, and then during Tama’s training, you hit twelve! The war with that lich guy finished it and got you the last three levels.”

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

“Are you telling me, Tama singlehandedly got me more levels than a literal army of undead?” I asked incredulously.

“Yes! Tristy was level two when she started training with Tama!” Anna said excitedly before continuing, “Also, I am level eighty-seven!”

I immediately raised an eyebrow at that. Tama just looked at me and shrugged. “Prove it,” I said simply. For the third time in under an hour, Anna detached herself from Tama, leaving her naked once again, and attached herself to me.

I gaped at the insanity of her titles alone, then I saw her level, and I almost fainted. This creature that I could literally manipulate by treating like a child, that had little to no morals, was the highest by far out of any of us!

The more insane part is that the memory was from Tama, and it showed the time when Tama was swinging at me to get to Anna. Meaning that Tama saw this screen, while she was kicking Anna’s teeth in. I mean, it should not have been shocking, since Tama still cannot read, meaning she probably had no idea what the words said, and probably did not care either.

So basically, either levels were stupid, or, much like everything else in this insane universe, Tama was just immune to them somehow. Worse? I spent two days alone with Anna. Two days in which I let my personality bleed into her due to her being a mirror of those around her. That meant that I was literally making a divine, insanely powerful creature edgy and snarky.

I tried once again to wrap my head around Anna, the creature who literally just obeys a pretty please if I told her. Also being a literal God Killer, a massively higher level than any of us, and currently being Tama’s outfit. I had enough for today.

I watched Saki simply stare into space for what felt like a super long time. “Maybe that’s why it says she is the void’s heir” Anna commented.

I shook my head and said “Tama does not think so, Tama thinks that’s related to the purple stuff she shoots at people that erases them.”

I felt Anna’s agreement. Saki suddenly stood and said “I am going to back to bed.”

I stared in confusion “But Saki, It’s still early!” I felt Anna’s agreement once again.

Saki just stared at me for a long time before saying nothing, turning and going over to her sleeping bag. She collapsed into it looking haunted and lay there with her eyes wide open.

Anna spoke up after a moment “I mean, I didn’t even show her the full character sheet. She would’ve lost if if she saw her own. Based on her memories she has no idea what kind of power she holds. She is even now probably terrified of my level, thinking me or you are the danger here.”

Tama nodded solemnly, Anna was right of course. Tama couldn’t read, but Saki’s sheet had always been one she forced herself to memorize. She couldn’t read the words, and the numbers changed sometimes. But the end result was always the same.

Tama wondered why Saki felt overwhelmed all the time. It was like she was oblivious to it, but at the same time, with a sheet like that, Saki should be happy.. right?

“To be fair” Anna said “You are the biggest danger here, But she is just as terrifying.” I paused as I looked at the divine water spirit.

“Nya, is that why you act so servile to her so much?” I asked with a raised eyebrow. Anna sent a wave of assent to me and I nodded. “So you are a scaredy divine spirit!” I said with a grin.

“Tama, you and Saki are literal titans among most mortals. I picked a fight hoping to see you two fight earlier and she took your side of the argument, refusing to even try to fight you. I know you aimed at me instantly too. I have been around for over six-hundred years, I know fate when I see it.” Anna said as she sighed.

I blinked at her statement “Tama doesn’t understand” I said quietly.

There was a moment of silence then Anna spoke “Tama is super duper powerful and Anna loves her so much!” Anna said in an excited happy tone. I smiled at her and giggle.

“Tama loves you too Anna!” I said happily as my tail wagged behind me.

Anna then asked “Can.. Can I see our profile again?” She seemed nervous to ask, I didn’t know why, I was happy to share!

I pulled up my character sheet, I had it completely memorized! Well, except the numbers which changed.. and some of the words.
