Nexus

A disorienting rush of sensations filled the three girls' senses as they stepped through the Void Gate, their surroundings blurring into a disorienting mix of swirling colors and distorted shapes. The air felt cold, almost...hollow, and an eerie silence hung in the air like fog.

After what felt like an eternity, the world slowly solidified once more. The sudden shift from one place to another left all three girls a little dizzy as they stumbled forward. After catching their bearings, they all took a moment to get a grasp of their new surroundings.

Then? The floor drops. They fall straight through dimensions until they crash-land onto a floor that goes on forever in every direction. And standing right there in front of them? A figure familiar to Chie and Juniper; that ox skull mask on the side of her head. The silken dark brown hair and those gorgeous turquoise eyes. The soft, healthy brown skin. Of course it's Tenzing, blinking down at three very lost girls who just fell outta nowhere.

"Tenzing?!" Chie and Juniper exclaimed simultaneously.

Tenzing tilted her head at the sight of the three girls, her expression unreadable as per the usual.

"Well, well. This is unexpected." Her voice was flat yet smooth as silk, but there was just the slightest hint of surprise mixed in.

Chie and Juniper exchanged glances, still recovering from the dizzying experience of traveling through a Void Gate.

Chie was the first to find her footing, straightening with a frown. "Yeah...you could definitely say that.”

Tenzing nodded slowly, her gaze still fixed on the three girls as she studied them. "...You're not supposed to be here." she stated, the slightest hint of curiosity lacing her voice.

Juniper was the next to recover, shaking off the last of the dizziness. She glanced around, taking in the unfamiliar surroundings before turning back to Tenzing.

"We know...we were chasing someone and ended up here," she answered slowly, choosing her words carefully.

Tenzing raised an eyebrow. "Chasing someone, you say?" She echoed, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Who is this 'someone'?”

  “Elara,” Alice answered.

Tenzing’s expression didn’t change, but the way she tilted her head ever so slightly, just a fraction, betrayed something unreadable flickering behind that calm exterior.

"...Elara," she repeated, voice low and measured. Then, after a beat of silence: "You are aware that jumping into an unknown Void Gate without preparation is not how one travels safely?"

Chie bristled at the scolding tone but held back her retort with visible effort. "Yeah? Well we kinda had no other choice." She gestured sharply to Alice beside them as proof of urgency.

Tenzing exhaled through her nose before finally moving forward slightly in acknowledgment... though whether it was sympathy or resignation wasn't clear yet.

"Very well," Tenzing conceded flatly while eyeing all three critically for injuries from their impromptu arrival here. “But if you seek Elara…” Her gaze sharpened suddenly into something far more intense than before , like steel wrapped in silk.“…then you should know this place will not let any intruder leave easily.”

The warning sent a small ripple of unease through all three girls.

Juniper shifted nervously, her eyes flicking around their surroundings.

Chie crossed her arms, feigning nonchalance despite the nerves building beneath her calm facade.

"We can handle it," she responded, though a slight tremble in her tone betrayed her true feelings.

Alice nodded in agreement, adding, "We have to find Elara no matter the risks.”

Tenzing held their gazes for a moment longer before finally giving a single, short nod.

"That resilience will serve you well," she said briskly before stepping forward. "Follow me."

With that, she began walking, clearly expecting the girls to follow.

Chie, after shooting a questioning glance at Juniper and Alice for confirmation, reluctantly followed.

She and Juniper exchanged worried looks, their earlier confidence tempered. This place was clearly not the place to underestimate.

The trio fell in line behind Tenzing, the only sound being their footsteps against the strange, endless floor.

Chie and Juniper both stole glances at each other, silently communicating their worries with subtle gestures. They had never seen this... place before, and its vastness felt almost oppressive with its emptiness. All the while, Tenzing marched on unflinchingly, completely at ease here.

Eventually, though how long it took was hard to tell in this place, a structure loomed into view.

As the structure grew closer, a strange mix of awe and trepidation settled over the girls. The structure was unlike anything Chie and Juniper had seen before, a towering, almost alien edifice that defied any logic they knew.

Meanwhile, Tenzing walked toward it with a calm familiarity, as though completely unbothered. Her lack of concern seemed both comforting and eerie simultaneously.

Chie broke the silence first, her voice a quiet whisper. "What is that thing?”

Tenzing paused, turning back for the first time since they began walking. "This..." she began, a hint of reverence in her typically emotionless voice.

"This is Nexus." She continued, gazing up at the colossal structure.

Chie and Juniper followed suit, their gazes lifting to take in the full scope of Nexus. A few moments passed in awed silence.

"So…what's Nexus for?" Juniper finally asked, voicing what both of them wanted to know.

Tenzing took a step away, her gaze still fixed on Nexus. "It is…many things," she explained, the tone of her voice almost reverent.

"...But the simplest explanation I can offer is this: Think of Nexus as… a crossroads between all realities, the anchor point, the core from which all realms and possibilities branch out."

"Whoa…" Chie breathed, eyes widening in awe. "So it's like… a central hub connecting everything?”

Tenzing shot Chie a brief, almost approving glance. "Precisely," she nodded. "Nexus stands as the lynchpin connecting all realities, timelines, and possibilities. It is the cosmic nexus point, the very heart of all existence."

Juniper was visibly taken aback, staring at Nexus with a mixture of fascination and intimidation. The sheer scale and importance of the structure suddenly felt overwhelming. "The heart of everything, huh…”

Tenzing seemed to sense the awe and intimidation in both girls' voices. Her expression remained unchanged, but her voice grew slightly softer as she continued.

"Not just metaphorically," she elaborated, her eyes never leaving Nexus. "Nexus is physically the center point where the fabric of reality is the most dense, where the thinnest layers between all realms collide and merge. It is…"

She paused, searching for the right words, then: "Nexus is quite literally the cosmic heart. The very core of all realities.”

Her words sent a chill down both Chie's and Juniper's spines, the weight of the revelation sinking in. Nexus was not just a mere structure or a place; it was an essential cosmic constant, holding the very fabric of reality together.

Chie found her voice first, trying to process the enormity of it all. "So… all timelines, all realities, everything… they all connect through Nexus?"

Tenzing nodded. "Indeed. Nexus is the singular convergence point. The cosmic nexus… the connecting point for all that is.”

Both girls let that information sink in, a wave of awe and wonder mixing with a sense of responsibility. They had always known that portals connected different realms, but the idea that all roads led back here, to Nexus, was an overwhelming thought. Chie, in particular, was unusually silent, a slight furrow in her brow indicating that she was trying to connect some dots mentally.

Tenzing, noticing her expression, gave Chie a sidelong glance but remained quiet, seemingly content to give them a moment to process.

Chie finally snapped out of her thoughts, glancing at Tenzing with sudden realization.

"Wait… if Nexus is the core of all realities…" she began slowly, "then why are we here? If Elara’s missing and using some kind of Void Gate to move around, does that mean she's here?"

Tenzing exhaled, the closest thing to an amused sound she ever made. "No," she replied bluntly. "She was. But not anymore."

The words hit like a gut punch. Juniper stiffened beside Chie while Alice instinctively reached for something, anything, to steady herself against this new twist.

"...What do you mean ‘was’?" Chie demanded.

But then, Nexus pulsed violently behind them like a heartbeat gone wrong; its walls groaning under unseen strain before suddenly fracturing into jagged rifts splitting open across its surface... revealing glimpses beyond reality itself where shadowy figures moved unseen among broken dimensions...

And standing right within one such tear: A familiar silhouette clad entirely in black robes and armor whose face remained obscured beneath their hood...

  Elara.

Or what looked like Elara anyway…
