About half an hour ter, Conrad felt it before he properly saw it.
A shift in the atmosphere.
He did not look directly.
Even in Zetsu, suppressing his presence to the bare minimum, he could sense the conversations grew quieter.
A few applicants stiffened without understanding why.
Hisoka Morow had arrived.
Conrad kept his eyes lowered.
For him, Hisoka meant a lot of things; in a sense, it would not be wrong to say that Hisoka was one of the most important characters in the whole series.
His soundtrack and many of the other things are pretty known, and his characteristics and capabilities were some of the most discussed.
In the ter times, he even went on the Bck Whale to hunt down the Phantom Troupe for real and murder many of them.
He did not search for eye contact.
He did not let curiosity spike.
He maintained Zetsu, carefully reducing his aura leakage to nearly zero.
To most people, he would feel like a normal human.
To someone like Hisoka, that was safer than appearing “interesting.”
From the corner of his vision, Conrad caught a glimpse.
Conrad slowly inhaled and then closed his eyes, pretending to rest.
His posture rexed against the wall, as if he were simply conserving energy before the test began.
Inside, however, his mind was sharp.
“Do not acknowledge.”
After some time, the rge warehouse doors that had allowed applicants to enter slid shut automatically with a heavy metallic echo.
The sound reverberated through the hall, silencing side conversations instantly.
Then
From the left wall, what appeared to be solid concrete split apart.
A massive concealed door opened inward.
A middle-aged man with a goatee stepped forward.
He radiated confidence that was hard to miss.
“Examiner,” Conrad thought.
The man looked at the people in the room.
“Total applicants: 305,” he said.
He smiled.
“I am Erive Lono.”
“You may call me Lono. I am the first examiner of this year’s Hunter Exam.”
A ripple of tension passed through the crowd.
Some applicants swallowed nervously.
Others grinned.
Lono csped his hands behind his back.
“I assume most of you know the general rules.”
“I must say,” he continued with a faint smile, “the air is excellent this year. The tension is… refreshing.”
A few applicants shifted uneasily.
Lono turned.
“Follow me.”
That single command marked the true beginning.
Without hesitation, the 305 applicants began moving.
Footsteps filled the corridor as they passed through the newly opened entrance.
The hallway was narrow at first, forcing them into close proximity.
Conrad positioned himself somewhere in the middle of the crowd.
After roughly ten meters, the corridor opened abruptly into a massive room.
It resembled an underground arena.
Conrad’s eyes sharpened slightly.
Lono walked to the center and turned back toward them.
“All applicants,” he began calmly, “the Hunter Exam is dangerous.”
“You may die.”
The words nded heavily.
“If anyone wishes to withdraw,” Lono continued, scanning the crowd one by one, “you may leave now.”
Silence.
A few applicants smirked.
One cracked his knuckles.
Someone ughed nervously.
No one stepped back.
Lono nodded once.
“Very well.”
"Courage is important for aspiring hunters," he added with a smirk and then pointed out the room.
“First Exam.”
“Falling Floors.”
Lono continued.
“You will all enter this room.”
“You will survive until the Falling Floors end.”
“That is the entirety of the instruction.”
No time limit was announced, nor were there any additional rules.
Conrad analyzed instantly.
"Possibly weight-triggered mechanisms."
Lono stepped aside.
“Begin.”
The massive doors behind them sealed shut with a thunderous cng.
The moment the st applicant stepped fully onto the segmented flooring
A loud mechanical click echoed beneath their feet.
And then
The first panel below their feet dropped.
