Kaizer stood near the centre of the den, breathing slowly, letting his heart rate settle as the System’s notifications faded into the background. His right claw throbbed dully, bone and flesh misaligned beneath torn fur, but the pain was manageable. He turned his attention inward only briefly, confirming he was stronger. Then turned back to the loot. Oh sweet sweet loot.
====================================
Throwing Daggers (Uncommon)
====================================
A matched set of throwing daggers forged with balance and repeat use in mind.
Lightweight, reinforced, and shaped for instinctive release.
Weapon Rank: Initiate
Attributes:
- Agility +1 while equipped (or stored within reach)
- Increased effectiveness when thrown from concealment
- Slight improvement to precision-based attacks
====================================
Kaizer tested the weight of one dagger in his palm, rolling it once before letting it settle naturally against his fingers. The balance was good. Better than anything he had found so far. The edge was clean, not serrated, meant to pierce rather than tear.
Good tools. He set them aside carefully. The next item was armour, lighter than he had expected, formed from layered material that looked part hide, part hardened weave. It would not stop a crushing blow but it would not hinder movement either.
====================================
Quickdraw Utility Belt (Uncommon)
====================================
A reinforced utility belt designed for rapid access to thrown weapons and tools.
Slots are positioned for ease of reach while under pressure.
Item Rank: Initiate
Attributes:
- Agility +1 while equipped
- Drawing thrown weapons requires less conscious focus
- Potions stored externally on a belt will not break, unless the belt breaks first.
====================================
Kaizer exhaled quietly. This item was important, at least for his current level. He could make use of this. He fastened the belt around his waist and tested the motion, drawing and reholstering a dagger without looking. The movement was clean and natural, easy to use.
He looked at the armour piece next.
====================================
Reinforced Hunter’s Vest (Rare)
====================================
A fitted vest designed for mobility-focused combat.
Reinforced along the ribs with arcane protection. Enchanted to heavily resist early F-Ranked impact blows and spread kinetic force
Item Rank: F
Attributes:
- Strength +5 while equipped
- Endurance +3 while equipped
- Upper torso is slightly more resistant to piercing
- Reduced impact from glancing blows
Enchantments:
- Reduce damage from impact blows (moderate) and spread kinetic energy to prevent internal ruptures
====================================
Kaizer ran his fingers along the inside seam, noting how the material flexed rather than resisted. It would sit well against his fur which had been slowly growing across his torso. This was a major upgrade, and the first hint at what came after initiate status. It seemed that initiate basically means tutorial level items and would probably be replaced pretty quickly afterward. Kaizer made note of that and also smiled at the rarity. It was his first item, besides maybe his stupid pink bracelet, that was rare.
There was one more item in the chest. Something Kaizer wasn’t expecting, but based on the belt and knives, should have.
====================================
Concentrated Recovery Salve (Rare)
====================================
A thick alchemical salve infused with stabilised essence.
Consumable Rank: F
Effect:
- Accelerates natural healing for 30 minutes
- Reduces pain and stiffness
- Minor Endurance recovery during effect
- Does not restore limbs or fatal wounds
====================================
This one was interesting. Finally proof that potions and alchemical products were real. Further, the simple line about not restoring limbs means that potions and medicinal effects can actually restore limbs in the future… Can basic regeneration do the same?

Kaizer placed the potion on his belt, sat down and began meditating. It was time to allocate stats and stabilise his growth, and what better place to do that than next to a recently dead essence monster. He let the den fade from his awareness as he settled into meditation, spine straight, spear laid across his knees, breath slow and even. The lingering scent of decaying essence clung to the stone beneath him, sharp and metallic, but it no longer pressed at his senses the way it had during the fight. Instead, it felt thin and hollow.
He reached inward and the System responded, allocating his new free points, he studied the window for a long while.

Kaizer studied the window carefully. The numbers felt right.
Strength and Agility were now sitting at around half of Instinct, whilst they could be higher, Kaizer knew that overall his class favoured Instinct and he should respect that. Endurance and Mind were lagging behind a little bit but Kaizer understood this. He wasn’t a tank, nor was he a mage. He could take a hit and would probably need to learn some mage like abilities to keep an even build but that wasn’t his specialty.
Instinct sitting at fifty felt nice. It was a round number, sitting much higher than the others. An outlier, but a foundational outlier. He felt this resonance deep in his core and noticed the density of essence within it. He knew he had to consolidate his gains but first… Skills. These additions felt like the true proof of Kaizer’s growth. Something that showed the things he was doing were paying off. He looked at each new skill carefully, in turn.
====================================
Skill: Silent Stalker (Uncommon)
====================================
A predatory stealth technique refined through sustained pursuit and lethal ambush. You stalk your prey and strike with lethal force, leaving the opponent confused and dazed upon unleashing a ferocious attack.
Passive Effect:
- Your presence is naturally reduced while tracking or stalking a target
- Movements made with hostile or killing intent generate less detectable disturbance
Active Effect:
- Upon successfully stalking your prey, unleash a single ferocious attack, providing a critical hit and suppressing your presence for a small amount of repositioning time.
Note: If you show hostility or attempt further attack during repositioning, the active effect will fade.
====================================
Kaizer smiled, almost laughing. This felt like it had been long earned, well before the Devourer had died. Days of tracking, waiting and choosing the perfect moment to act.
====================================
Skill: Essence Coating (Common)
====================================
A fundamental technique on the path towards essence control. You can coat your body and other physical elements with condensed essence, allowing numerous beneficial effects.
Effect:
- You find essence manipulation comes slightly easier but will increase the strain and drain of your core during the process.
- Coat specific body parts or weapons with a thin layer of essence.
- Enhances sharpness, impact, and penetration of weapons.
- Coating body parts can provide slightly increased protection.
====================================
This one made sense too. Kaizer had instinctively coated his claws in essence, making them function at longer range. Perhaps he could look into coating his throwing daggers and spear in a similar manner. He continued looking down his list, deciding to save his legendary skill for last, he focused on Triple Thrust.
====================================
Skill: Triple Thrust (Inferior)
====================================
Donning your spear in thick essence, you strike three times in quick succession, each blow more powerful than the previous.
Effect:
- A large increase in speed between each of these thrusts.
- The first thrust has slight penetration increase.
- The second thrust increased blunt force, naturally moving objects in the way of the spear.
- The final thrust has drastically increased force and penetration, digging deep into your enemies.
====================================
This was pretty self-explanatory too, a three-strike combo, providing speed, power and penetration. It was a nice overall skill but quite limiting, only being used with spear. Further, it showed clear synergy with his essence coating skill. Perhaps he could find a way to do this with his claws or throwing daggers in the future? Kaizer made a mental note to ponder on this sooner rather than later as he focused on what he was most excited for… His new legendary skill.
====================================
Skill: Essence Siphon (Legendary)
====================================
A predatory adaptation of siphoning essence from the environment. Tied to bloodline compatibility, this skill allows you to devour the leaking essence from the world around you.
Passive Effect:
- Leaking or unstable essence within your vicinity is slowly drawn towards you
- Cultivation sources can be drained more efficiently
Active Effect:
- Breathe in the essence from a damaged or dissipating source
- Provides a boost to all of your stats and skills while draining your surroundings of essence density
- You are naturally stronger and more durable, the more you drain
This skill does not provide direct level benefits from essence drain, instead providing your body with greatly enhanced physical benefits. Will help provide better insights when cultivating in essence rich environments.
====================================
Kaizer frowned. Wasn’t this like a cheat? It meant that the longer fights went, the more he damaged cores, the more he gained. Further, what was bloodline compatibility? Kaizer hadn’t seen, heard, nor been shown anything about bloodlines, was this a mistake? Either way, Kaizer couldn’t dwell on it. He needed to stabilise his core and secure the growth.
Kaizer guided the flows of energy throughout his body carefully, drawing essence through muscle and bone, letting it wash across damaged tissue before returning inward. The ache in his injured claw dulled slightly. As he felt the essence leave the claw, he felt it slowly retract into his skin, still damaged but forcefully bent back into place.
He continued to cycle essence through his core. As he levelled, he noticed it getting deeper, denser, moving towards a point of change. He knew something was coming soon, a true chance at growth. Just like how his weapons and items seemed to have ranks of initiate or F, so did his core and capacity. Perhaps, he could try and upgrade soon.
He felt that he was moving towards a threshold, so he continued cycling energy through his core. He focused on the previous hunt, on the physical essence around him, there was still dense essence in the area, so he took a deep breath and sucked it in, activating his skill.
Following the flow of the energy, he brought it towards his core, feeding it to each of the Dao Seeds inside, making sure they stayed in balance. Kaizer had long realised that without balance, his seeds would begin to have an effect on his personality. He blamed his Dao Seed of Ferocity for losing control and needed to make sure he kept himself impassive as much as possible, tempered.
Out of nowhere, he received a system chime.
[Profession: Harvester Level Up]
Well, now wasn’t that interesting. It seemed that proper insight and cultivation could help one grow. He continued to pay attention to his core, slowly feeding it more essence, until he felt he could not do so anymore. During the process, his mind had begun to feel distant, like something was tugging at his thoughts.
Kaizer felt his thoughts begin to fade, like his mind was being dragged from his body. He opened his eyes… No… It wasn’t his mind fading, or his body. The world around him seemed to be blurring. With a cry, he muttered “What the fuck…” Kaizer tried to stand and stabilise himself but found that he wasn’t able to.
A small black dot appeared in front of his vision, slowly growing as it seemingly sucked the world around him into it. The dot became a black tennis ball like object, which fell to the now pitch-dark ground, bounced then hit Kaizer in the chest. He found himself being sucked into it. Body dissolving at a rapid pace. First, his chest, then hands and legs, followed by his head. He felt no pain, just an odd sensation.
With a pop and squelching sound, Kaizer found himself reassembled in an unknown domain, seemingly deep within ocean depths. He could feel pressure all around him, pressing on his body, keeping him in place.
“Welcome to my domain,” a giant creature hissed toward him… The pressure surrounding him increasing ten fold as it spoke.
