Chapter 72 Looming

  Le Chateau de Fortier

Leona’s heels clicked briskly on the cobblestones as she matched her pace to Seven’s longer strides. The towering man exuded an air of quiet confidence, his measured steps reflecting the precision he brought to his work. The crisp dawn air carried the rustle of autumn leaves and the faint echoes of Angus’ latest session, still fresh in their minds, as they made their way to the parked helicopter.

“Madam Leona,” Seven began, “your husband’s reactions to today’s treatment are encouraging. His subtle motor responses, such as that slight movement in his hand and turning his head when you spoke, are signs that his brain is receptive to the stimulation.”

Leona’s eyes brightened with cautious optimism. “I noticed that, too. When I called him, I swear I heard him say my name in full this time. I believe he’s improving.”

“Yes,” Seven affirmed, his expression serious. “These responses are small but significant. Electro-acupuncture works by stimulating neural pathways and enhancing brain activity, and he seems to be responding well. I’m confident we’re on the right path. If this continues, I wouldn’t be surprised if he transitions to a conscious state within a few more sessions.”

Leona pressed a hand to her chest, emotions surging. “This is the best news I’ve had in a long time. Thank you, Seven.”

“Madam Leona,” Seven replied gently, “it’s a long road ahead, but every step counts. I’ll be back on Wednesday, and we’ll keep building on this momentum.”

Leona’s smile warmed. “Safe travels back,” she murmured. “See you Wednesday.”

As Seven climbed into the chopper, Leona stood rooted at a safe distance, watching the rotors whir to life. The machine lifted into the sky, carrying with it her fragile hopes, now buoyed by the prospect of a miracle.

  Minutes Later, The Cliffs

The rhythmic thworps of the helicopter blades faded as Seven landed on the expansive front lawn of the estate. Inside, the mansion was still wrapped in the hush of daybreak. Seven made his way to Sana’s room, his footsteps soft. He paused at the threshold, taking in the gentle rise and fall of her chest.

Deciding not to disturb her, he slipped on a pair of compression tights and began his calisthenics workout. Each movement was deliberate, muscles tightening and releasing in a symphony of control and discipline. The sounds of his regulated breaths and the muted thuds of his palms and feet against the hardwood floor gradually roused Sana from sleep.

Adjusting the backrest of the hospital bed, she watched silently, tracing the contours of his frame. The early light streaming through the sheer curtains bathed him in gold, accentuating the sharp lines of his physique. Despite herself, she felt a swell of admiration for his dedication.

“Good morning, Sweets,” she called, her voice still husky. “You’re impressive as ever.”

Seven’s head turned, his features softening as he met her gaze. “Good morning, Princess,” he hummed, crossing to her bedside. “I’m all sweaty from my workout. Do you need the bathroom now?”

Sana’s lips curved into a smirk. “Not yet. You go ahead and shower. I’ll wait here and enjoy the view a little longer.”

  Chuckling softly, Seven quipped, “BRB.”

Freshly showered, he returned, and they fell into their usual rhythm. He helped Sana freshen up before taking her to the kitchen for breakfast. The day unfolded in harmony, banter exchanged over coffee and eggs before Seven excused himself to prepare for work. Leaving Sana in Lara’s care, he departed with Ami for a day packed with responsibilities.

  ……

  Dinner Time, The Cliffs

The grand dining room came alive with the clatter of silverware and the hum of conversation. Platters of roasted meats and vibrant side dishes adorned the long table, their aromas mingling with the warmth of flickering candlelight. As the chatter faded, Seven’s voice, calm but edged with tension, carried across.

“Kasra,” he started, setting down his fork, “I got an email from the military this afternoon. An investigating officer has been assigned to my case. The interview’s on Friday.”

The room stilled. Katherine and Sana’s heads snapped toward him. “I got an email, too!” they exclaimed together.

Sana glanced at Seven, her heart thudding. “My interview’s at nine at the Mark Center,” she said hesitantly. “Not sure where that is.”

Looking at her brother, Katherine added, “Mine’s at ten, same location. What about you, Sev?”

“Eleven,” he answered, his tone clipped.

Kasra leaned forward, his fingers steepled. “Logistically, it makes sense for Sana to attend her interview with Lara, given the gap in times. Seven, yours being the last, means they’ll likely want to question you at length. Sana should head home immediately after. I’ll have TITAN’s security detail escort her.”

Seven gave a sharp nod, his mind already working through contingencies. “Agreed. Lara and at least two additional bodyguards should accompany Sana. Her safety comes first.”

Kimi, ever the seasoned professional, spoke up. “Seven, as your legal counsel, I’ll take the day off to join you for the interview. It’s essential to have representation, given the stakes.”

A faint smile tugged at the corners of Seven’s lips. “Thank you, Kimi. Your support means a lot.”

Though his next question was directed to Kimi, he stared intently at Sana. “Given her involvement, does she need legal counsel present?”

Kimi answered without hesitation, “It’s unlikely she’ll face any repercussions, but I can sit in with her during her interview. Better safe than sorry.”

Seven considered this, then said, “We’ll all go together. Sana and Katherine can leave immediately after their interviews.”

With the logistics settled, Kasra shifted the conversation. “How are the preparations for the ceremony?”

Seven leaned back in his chair, calculating. “Earlier today, we released a statement confirming I’ll be hosting the event. If Cloche takes the bait, he’ll reveal himself.”

Katherine’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “Bruh, you’re right on the money! Wendy ditched Data Dynamics’ cafeteria and went to Tandem Restaurant for lunch. While waiting for her order, she texted C. Moments later, she got a call. Their entire conversation revolved around how the ceremony is the perfect opportunity for C to meet you.”

Seven’s lips curled into a smirk. “Good. Let him come. We’ll be ready.”
