Chapter 26

  Chapter 26

Several days had passed since the calamity over Taranis. The Taranians and Arkanians were busy learning how to fly their new fleet of Lantean warships. Like Hoff, several more worlds had expressed interest in joining the Lantean Commonwealth. Worlds like Manaria, Latira, and Dagan eagerly wanted to join Amos Fyree’s new Alliance. However Amos, fearing rapid expansion in the Pegasus Galaxy, and the premature awakening of the Wraith, called for a general meeting of all the leaders of Commonwealth member worlds on Valhalla where the Asgard now had a permanent colony.

  “Kaswoosh”

“Hello, welcome to Valhalla, my name is Kvasir. The rest of the Commonwealth delegations are this way, please follow me.

As the delegations arrived at the conference room on Valhalla, one could hear the world leaders yelling and screaming at each other over a proposed war with the Wraith.

  “Are you mad?” barked Lycus.

“Are you a coward?” bitched Smeadon, leader of Manaria. “We have a fleet of Ancestral warships, the protection of their ancient allies the Asgard, and the means of deploying our own satellite weapons to defend our worlds from the Wraith! We can finally end the threat of the Wraith once and for all.”

Amos, annoyed by the constant bickering between the various leaders of the Commonwealth silenced all of them and said, “Listen, we need to be wise here. At their prime the Ancients had over 1,000 worlds under their control, and they still lost to the Wraith. I’m in agreement with Lycus, if we attack the Wraith now we would only be dooming ourselves to an untimely end.”

“I am also in agreement with Amos,” said the leader of Dagan. “Our people have been in possession of the Potenta for over 10,000 years. Yet, the Wraith still come to our world and cull our villages. Even with our precious Potenta, the source of the Ancestor’s power, we cannot defend our world against the Wraith”

“That’s a battery you fracking dolt!” screamed the leader of Latiria.

The room exploded into intense fighting once more as the leaders bickered over starting a war with the Wraith now, or wait. Finally, having enough, Amos stood up at his seat, to calm down the delegates once again.

“Listen, I’m going to be honest with you, all of you – giving the leader of Dagan an ominous look – you’re not ready. Yes, with our fleet of Lantean warships we can defend our worlds against Wraith attack, however most of you don’t even know how to operate the ships let alone know what a Potenta is.”

Amos clasped his hands together and opened them revealing a Zero Point Module.

“Potentae! Potentae!” blurted the leader of Dagan.

“Yes, this is a Potenta, where I come from they call it a Zero Point Module or a ZPM. No, it is not magic, it is a battery like the honorable leader from Latiria so eloquently explained. It works by tapping vacuum energy from subspace. The Ancients used these to power their technology because it holds enormous amounts of power. The people of Dagan worship them, yet I was able to print one so effortlessly. That is because I know how they work. They aren’t mystical to me. If you don’t know what or how a ZPM functions then you are in no way, shape, or form, capable of winning a war against the Wraith”

Amos looked at the leader of Dagan and gave him the ZPM. The leader of Dagan clutched the ZPM with an impish grin on his face. “My Potentae…” he whispered.

“What about your world, Amos?” said Jamus the leader of Arkology. “Surely your people have a grasp on these things.”

Amos nodded his head in agreement and placed his hands on his hips and stated, “As some of you know, I’m not from here, I’m from another galaxy separate from both your galaxy as well as the Asgard’s galaxy. In my Galaxy, we have many advanced civilizations who would be willing to fight alongside us in an all out war against the Wraith, my planet included. However, my galaxy is at war.

The delegates swayed in their seats, made uncomfortable by Amos’s words.

“War! With who?” said the leader of Manaria.

“The Goa’uld,” said Penegal, who had largely remained quiet throughout the entire fiasco.

“Penegal is right. My people have waged a war against the Goa'uld for around five years now. They are formidable. As formidable as the Wraith. Instead of feeding on humans, however, they burrow into a person’s brain and take over their bodies as hosts. The Asgard and I came to this galaxy in the hopes of finding weapons and technology that we could use in a war against the Goa’uld. We also came here to make allies. Now, this Commonwealth has grown to include several worlds in the Pegasus galaxy and yes, my world is planning on coming to this galaxy in the future, however, not until the Goa’uld are defeated.”

“How long until your people defeat the Goa’uld?” blurted a delegate.

“In one or two years,” said Amos softly.

“We can’t wait that long!” stated the leader of Latiria.

“Yes, you can. Right now the Wraith are sleeping. They will not wake for another 50 years. In the meantime we will prepare our forces and train our people on how to use Lantean technology. I also advise that we remain quiet and keep the existence of our Commonwealth hidden to a bare minimum. Rapid expansion could tip off the Wraith. However, we won’t let the Wraith attack your worlds. Instead we will focus more on ways to defend our current member worlds against Wraith attack. Luckily, the Asgard have designed planetary shield emitters that use ZPMs. They can prevent the Wraith from attacking your worlds from orbit. They have also sent teachers to Taranis to train the people on how to operate the Lantean Warships in case of emergencies. The Asgard have developed a gene therapy specifically for the Taranians and Arkanians that should give anyone who takes it the ability to use Lantean technology. You all should send your soldiers and security personnel to Taranis to learn how to fly Lantean warships as well as take the gene inoculation in order to use other Lantean technologies in preparation for that war. Until that happens, only the Asgard, Taranians, and Arkanians can actually use the Lantean vessels we currently have at our disposal. You should also know that Reva is busy at work making Lantean beam cannons and drone weapons platforms that will automatically attack Wraith ships when they come out of orbit, but that is several months away. Until then, we can do as Smeadon suggested and place cloaked and shielded Satellite weapons in orbit of all member worlds.”

“It would be wise to prepare and train before we rush out to war,” said Smeadon acknowledging Amos’s wisdom.

  “That is correct,” reaffirmed Amos.

“Also, I must inform you that In the next couple of days, Reva, Freyr and I will be leaving this galaxy for my home galaxy, in order to recruit more worlds into the Lantean Commonwealth.”

  “You’re leaving?” asked Lycus.

“Yes, I’m afraid I am,” replied Amos. “There are many technologically advanced worlds in my galaxy, worlds with vast militaries and technologies we will need if we want to effectively build an army against the Wraith. By the end of the year we will hold another meeting, like this one, this time with the most advanced worlds in my galaxy in attendance. There we will formally draft a charter confirming the Lantean Commonwealth.

The rest of the delegates were in agreement with Amos and applauded his words.

“Lastly, I want to end this meeting by saying this: I know where the Ancestors are,” he said, with caution in his voice. The room fell silent and a look of awe came over the delegate’s faces. Even Penegal looked at him with shock in his eyes.

“10,000 years ago when the ancients abandoned this galaxy they arrived in mine. There are still some around; some in stasis, others on derelict ships. One of the reasons why I’m going back to my galaxy is because the technology I need to save the Ancestors doesn’t exist in this galaxy; but, it does in mine. With that technology, we can not only save the ancestors,”

  Amos took a brief pause:

“We can resurrect their entire civilization.”
