Chapter 74: Scream To The World

Adelyn’s chainsaw whirred through the air, spinning around to inflict cuts against the massive moon golem. It had been far too long since she had properly fought, being cooped up in the library for the duration of the Lune trip. It felt great to get some action in again.

The spinning blade cut at the golem’s legs, attempting to topple it over. WIth a bit of magic, it did manage to partially slice through.

“Teddie! Can you give me a bit more power?” Adelyn asked. Teddie nodded and began singing his song. The notes reinvigorated Adelyn’s energy, allowing her to put it all in her magic to continue cutting through the creature’s legs.

The golem didn’t have time to deal with that though, thanks to the efforts of Ed and Cozy. The boy was striking at its feet, and Cozy was flying around it blasting from afar. This creature was quite resilient, but it didn’t move particularly fast.

Ed’s golden blades carved through the crystals on the body. The golem kicked out quite a bit, but he dodged in response. Cozy was a similarly annoying fly, continuously blasting at the creature’s head. Their dual attack was overwhelming it slowly, though not doing too much in the way of damage.

The creature began to guard itself, the crystals protruding from its body started to glow purple. Adelyn could feel a large amount of energy gathering in its body.

“Ed! Cozy! Watch out!” She called out to both of them, before turning back to Teddie. “Give me some sturdiness, Teddie!”

The boy changed his tune instantly. A reserved, but determined song echoed through the battlefield as the spirit of the Earth, Golus, was summoned. Peeking out from behind, Cozy had landed just behind Ed who created a glowing forcefield around them. Though, she very quickly dived behind Golus soon after.

Glowing, purple crystals expanded throughout the entire battlefield from the statue’s body. They stretched far, wide, and sharp. Golus took a heavy strike straight through his shoulder, but Teddie’s resilience song managed to allow the spirit to punch through the other crystals that came towards it.

The earth spirit ran forwards, punching through the crystals that came towards it. Adelyn and Teddie came out mostly unscathed as a result. She looked towards Cozy and Ed out of concern, and it seemed like they made it out alright too. Ed’s golden shield had been pierced through by the crystals, but the two of them managed to barely avoid getting grazed themselves.

“Moon crystals…” Cozy said, as Ed dropped his shield to give the both of them more mobility. “That’s great for me!” The girl spread her wings and began to take off. Adelyn knew she had to move as well.

The crystals protruding from the golem began to break apart, allowing for the statue to move again. Adelyn called her chainsaw back towards her hands and began running behind Golus. Teddie provided a song of speed, accelerating both of their movements. Adelyn had one idea in mind, forcing the statue off of its feet, and then an opportunity to deliver a finishing blow would be in order.

With a running start, Golus slammed his fist into the statue’s leg, causing both it and the ground to rumble. Cozy flew up and behind Adelyn, with dozens of sharp crystals following up behind her. The creature began to raise its foot in an attempt to step on the both of them, however Ed ran right next to them and created a massive pillar of light.

Golus also put his hands into the air, and the two of them together managed to leverage their strength to suspend the giant foot in the air. The two kids slid under it and prepared to enact a plan.

Cozy’s dozens of moon crystals struck the bottom of the foot with various pint-sized needles. These looked to weaken the structural integrity of the statue, allowing it to be more vulnerable to damage.

“Now would be a good time to strike!” Cozy said. Adelyn and Ed nodded. With a raising of their weapons, they both struck the foot of the statue with as much force as they could. With Ed’s blades and Adelyn’s chainsaw, the statue’s entire foot fragmented into pieces! The force of their combined attack blew the massive creature off of balance, causing it to tip over.

The sheer force of movement caused a wind that would blow all three kids back and away, landing right next to Teddie. They saw the statue use the moon around it to push itself back onto balance, retaining its stance despite its missing foot.

“Shoot!” Ed said. “It’s still standing?”

“It’s weaker now though,” Cozy responded. “If we can get something big and powerful, then maybe that’ll knock it off balance!”

The creature’s face began to glow, as if another powerful attack was charging up. Large amounts of energy began to flow around the entire area, concentrating into the statue’s head.

“That attack is gonna be massive too!” Teddie said. “Can we dodge?”

“I got this,” Adelyn walked forwards. Opening her book, she flipped to a glowing page. A special one that was highlighted by Governor Knox. A powerful, regenerating, and humongous arcane golem. This creature was similar to the hydra, in that it’d require a lot of energy to maintain. It was a bit weaker, but far more resilient.

Her magic extended to her book, and then her mind. With the energy pushing out of the ground, a large rumbling shook the moon that they stood on.

Out of the face of the statue, a massive blast fired. One that would be far too big for any of them to dodge individually, and was packing immense destructive magical potential. The colorful beam charged towards all four of them at a high speed, before a great wall erected in front of the kids.

The massive, purple, crystalline arcane golem raised its fist and punched through the beam, splitting it completely in half. It walked forward, powering through it with both regeneration and resistance, with each step shaking the entire ground.

Everyone looked in awe at the creature, but despite this, Adelyn noticed that it was beginning to crumble, only being held together by its regenerative abilities. It was worrying, if the statue was just a bit stronger, then her defense might not hold.

Teddie’s song rang out behind the golem. It glowed with power, allowing it to push through the beam even faster. It made up for lost time from its own crumbling structure, and allowed the summon to stand even stronger. With a raise from its fist, it struck through the beam and punched the statue in the face, knocking it down onto the ground.

Adelyn took a deep breath, calling back and stabbing her chainsaw into the ground to keep herself standing, her own golem dissipating. But Cozy and Ed leaped forward to take advantage of the statue being down. With the movement of her hands, the crystals on the statue’s body were torn off before redirected back through it. Ed followed this up by making a massive hammer, slamming into its chest. The final blow was what was needed, and the statue crumbled into dust.

They had done it. The first divine test was complete. Everyone took a deep sigh of relief as they all recovered. The sound of clapping could be heard from Midnas, walking over to approach them.

“Congratulations. Your will is just as strong as I’d hope, especially considering all of your grand ambitions,” Midnas said, with a smile. Adelyn got up to her feet and looked at him.

“We did it,” Adelyn told him. “What more until we can get our divinity?”

“With the strength in your will, I’d say you’re more than qualified. There is simply one more thing I ask of you.” Midnas pointed to their chests. “The strength of your heart.”

“The strength of our heart?” Ed asked. “What does that mean?”

Midnas clapped his hands and summoned a small fountain behind him. Glowing water flowed from the top, back into the moon itself. The same fountain that Governor Luan was standing in front of back in Lune.

“Stand in front of it, and make your resolution. Your words will be the ones that grant you divine power. Who are you, and why?” Midnas instructed. The four of them all looked towards it. “Only one of you is already divinely blessed, so you do not have to do it, if you wish.”

He was referring to Cozy, of course. The girl looked at Adelyn and her friends and then took a step aside. It was their turn to reach her level.

Teddie, Ed, and Adelyn looked upon the fountain. The first to move forwards was Edward. He put his hand on his chest and began to speak out loud.

“My name is Edward. I’m going to the capital to be the strongest warrior in the land. There are schools, people, and places in there that I know can strengthen my magic. I’m going to become the best host… host of true power that Lunasa has ever seen, and everyone will remember my name!”

Ed took a step back, and Teddie soon followed him after. Him and his bear both looked at the fountain, before speaking.

“My name is Teddie. I’m on this journey to help my friends and make a mark in their lives. A happy memory is all I want and need to be, and to make that happy memory last is proof that my place in the world and nature meant something. If every day I can wake up and see their smiles again, then we’ll both have a happy story to bring home when it’s all over.”

Teddie stepped back as well, leaving just Adelyn to make her statement. The girl walked forward, took a deep breath, and spoke.

“My name is Adelyn! My goal is that one day, Rumia and I will see the sun again. I’ll go through any harsh barrier, problem, and obstacle that’s in my way so that we can go back home and live our lives in peace. I will not stop, and will not slow down until she’s standing alongside me as the sun rises once again. That is why, even on the moon, I’ll still think of tomorrow and what comes next!”

Adelyn took her step back, and the fountain’s glow became even brighter. Light began to rise from the water and into the air, starting to cover the ground and form an astonishing sight. However, as that light rose, footsteps approached the fountain towards the light.

Cozy stood in front of the fountain, put her hand on her chest, and spoke.

“My name is Cozy! The moon already knows who I am, so I’m going to scream it to the world instead! I’m going to become the smartest merchant that this country has ever known. Fame, riches, and status will all be in my grasp, and if anyone tries to deny my capabilities… then I’ll show them who I really am! In the capital, I’m going to make my own life, with my own hands, and rise to the top, and nothing is going to stop me!”

Cozy’s voice echoed across the moon. The rising light began to expand outward, reaching them all and covering them in a warm glow. Adelyn’s vision began to turn pure white, as her friends all got engulfed in the divine essence. Soon, she was covered too, and the only thing she could hear was Midnas’ voice.

“Your journey shall not end here, as it is just the beginning. I wish you luck in your purposes, for your story is something that even I look forward to reading the ending of.”
