The Caravan(4)

“ The caravan is going to arrive at the city 233 of the mesopotamian sector by tonight so we should be on our way.” Amir said as he tried to carry the bags of Ellaya which exceeded the normal limit of the compression box.

“ Yeah, let’s be our way.” Zayn affirmed in synchronicity. These two always made it out with each other. They were both Depraves so I did not think of that before but it was a fault of mine that I should not have overlooked at that time.

“ Yes, let’s go.” Ellaya was in a joyful way. She was always like that, always enjoying the trips no matter the way where we were going. It always reminded me of the one thing that she was just a child not much older than a hundred years or so. She was like a young sparrow just about to understand how to open her wings and how to flap her wings in order to understand how to meet the air and fly away in a calming condition. Such a spectacle was not very seen in the collapsed world where it was all about getting the best kill or the most kills. People used all kinds of banned trades like the smuggling of human bodies and whatnot. The Depraves were the main backbone of the collapsed world but that does not mean that the rest of the human world were devoid of sins and acts that even made the humans want to kill such vile beasts like making the humans into turned Depraves and then using them for their quota. It was true that the condition of the turned Depraves was pretty bad in the collapsed world and they appeared ugly and repugnant. This issue had been raised multiple times in the council of humanity but such a main issue had been absolved of any crimes and the result is that although, the treatment of the Depraves had been softened but the turned Depraves are still suffering under the hood. I did not care much about politics and suddenly, the mark of depravity on my back tangled for a second and I was made to touch on the mark as if something had happened. I stopped and checked the mark to be sure but it was fine as always.

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

“ What is the problem? Why are you stopping?” Ellaya inquired about my health or was it because she just wanted to reach the settlement as quickly as possible.

“ Nothing. I was thinking a little. It is no problem. Let’s go.” I jumped at the opportunity and did not let anyone else get the sign that I was troubled.

“ Oh! However, it did not appear that way to me. It was like you were checking your back for something.” Zayn answered with the details of my transition.

I looked back with Zayn and Tuz coming behind with simple clothing but Amir engulfed himself with the extra bags that the decompressing unit could not hold and there were a lot of them in there. It looked pitiful but he was a turned Deprave with a tenacity that was much higher than the normal people so I thought that he would be fine but on second thoughts, I should give him a helping hand. I tried to help him out by taking some of the dangling bags but he countered by trying to implement that he was fine and that I should get back to what I was doing.

“ Yes, why were you touching your back? It is the place where the Depraved mark is, isn’t it? Tell me what is happening to you and are you OK?” Tuz bombarded me with a ton of questions that I didn't think would be spouted at me so quickly.

“ Nothing. It was just a tingling sensation.” As I said, the mark of depravity started to itch and I was forced to move my hand to the back again.

“ Let me check.” Tuz said while sliding my shirt up without my approval and looked at the mark of depravity.

“ The design and length of the mark remains the same.” Said Zayn, the butler.

I did not know how he could tell that with just one glance but I really wanted to know how he was sure. It was not like that he had seen many turned Depraves and could tell one Deprave sign from the other. I tried it but it was too difficult.

“ It is alright. There is no problem. Let’s get to the region altogether.” I said while trying to circumvent what we should be doing.

“ He is right, let’s go.” Amir said while hurrying us toward our goal which was in sight.

“ OK.” Tuz agreed and we forgot this topic.
