At this moment, Lun thought of death, and also his mother and younger brother.
What would they think if they heard about his strange experience?
But soon enough, he removed this ridiculous thought out of his mind.
It was my birthday, man...
However, the last call from Lun's mother was to ask for money for his brother's training fees.
Not a word was mentioned about the birthday.
In fact, she probably didn't even know what day was Lun's birthday at all.
He should have thought of this much earlier.
"Such a fool, huh..."
He couldn't help mocking himself.
He felt ashamed of how cowardly and foolish he himself was.
Even at this very moment which was infinitely close to death, such a ridiculous thought could still pop up in his mind.
Thinking of this, Lun's eyes got watery and his vision became blurry once again.
A strange sense of sadness welled up in his heart.
The past of his life kept rewinding like a movie in Lun's mind.
This must be what people usually call "flashing before their eyes".
Lun realized that his time had come.
But at this very last moment, he stayed exceptionally calm, completely free of the tense feeling he had just a few seconds ago.
Even Lun himself didn't expect that he could accept death so calmly.
Perhaps death could be another way of breaking free, which would allow Lun to be completely liberated from this lonely and gloomy life.
In that case, he will never be held back by anyone or anything again.
Not even his family...
When Lun woke up again, he felt like he was lying on a soft and comfortable king size bed.
He rolled over, closing his eyes drowsily and didn't want to get up right away.
He felt as if he had never slept on such a comfortable bed in his life.
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
It reminded him of his long forgotten childhood. When Lun's parents had not divorced yet, he seemed to have slept and played on such a comfortable bed too.
But just as he closed his eyes , a woman's cold voice broke the peaceful moment and drew his attention back to reality:
"Since you're awake, don't intend to sleep anyway. We don't have much time and there are still many questions that we need to figure out. You'd better get up and answer."
Before Lun could open his eyes to see what was going on, the comfortable bed beneath him suddenly began to fold automatically at a stable and low pace.
With the sound of some sort of mechanics running, part of the bed where Lun's upper body rested was slowly folding up.
Feeling his upper body being lifted gradually, Lun came to his senses and finally opened his eyes.
Meanwhile, lights in the room happened to be turned on at the same time which caused him instinctively to close his eyes again.
As the head of the bed kept rising, when it reached a certain angle and then stopped, Lun came to a sitting position and when he realized it, he opened his eyes carefully.
He even raised his hand to defend his eyes in case the lights were too brilliant, and that was when he found the hand he used was the left hand with the golden bangle on his wrist.
Lun was stunned. For an instant, many things flashed in his mind: a gray room, dark liquid, and his left arm that was severed...
He came to his senses and stared at his left hand, which was supposed to be gone in his memory. But instead, it just seemed perfectly fine at this moment.
The crystal part of the bangle no longer emitted any light, as if it had never done, just some sort of ordinary material, nothing special.
Lun felt so strange and so confused. His memory and his vision seemed to disagree with each other.
Because of this, he was staring at his left hand, lost in thought for too long until the woman's cold voice rang out again:
"Well, obviously you have a lot of questions. But that's okay. We do too. So I think we need to talk."
Following the sound, Lun looked up.
There sat a young and beautiful woman on a chair by the wall.
She had a long brown haircut which was tied up in a high ponytail, leaving a bang of fringe with both sides longer hanging in the front naturally.
She was in a cobalt blue peacoat, not dressed but covering her shoulders and her arms crossed over her chest. Her legs were also crossed and covered by a pair of dark opaque pantyhose.
She sat there with her back leaning against the wall and with her eyes full of suspicion, focusing on him.
Lun didn't know what to say. He just opened his mouth several times, trying to pick up some words.
"This is..."
But instead, the woman interrupted him and said:
"We detected an unusual pulse of energy occurring in the multiverse, precisely, from the universe identified as code [605]. Then we tracked it and found where you were.
But unfortunately, the place where we found you seemed to have been totally messed up by the energy pulse. All the electricity and power supply around the block had been either damaged or shut down. In that case, we have not yet been able to extract any valid video footage that could tell us what exactly happened at that time.
That's why we brought you here.
Now, we need your cooperation. Please tell us exactly what happened before you lost consciousness.
If you're curious about where we are, well for the time being the only thing I can assure you is that you're very safe.
Just assume that we're in a hospital now."
The woman finished her words and stayed, waiting for Lun to respond.
Lun was thinking, as his eyes moved around and suddenly stopped at a window which was not far from where the woman sat.
Out of the window, there was a borderless space of dark sky as if it were night.
But soon enough Lun noticed that there was an unknown blue planet surrounded by rings like a glowed halo that was just hanging up in the dark space.
Lun was totally confused with his eyes wide open.
Could this be real or some ridiculous birthday joke?
