Chapter 16.5 — BiOnyx Internal Communications (Unredacted)

  Team,

We have an emergency image-perception anomaly.

Several field reports indicate that members of the general public are referring to the BT4 units as “bunnies.”

Specifically, community observers describe the units as having:

  “big ol’ robot rabbit ears”

This appears to be a misinterpretation of the dual high-mounted, multi-function sensor towers, which were placed there (as we all know) for:

  •   unobstructed LIDAR sweep

  •

  •   IR illumination clearance

  •

  •   isolating acoustic triangulation layers

  •

  •   safety beacon line-of-sight

  •

  •   vibration damping

  •

None of which resemble ears in any way.

Please be advised that PR has flagged this as a brand identity drift hazard.

  Further analysis pending.

  Hi everyone!

Just circling back with some very important brand alignment insights!

We ran the silhouette past a small focus group in Albuquerque (ages 5–11), and 100% of participants independently said:

  “Robot bunny!”

  Some additional comments included:

  •   “Are they supposed to be cute?”

  •

  •   “Can I pet one?”

  •

  •   “Why does this one look grumpy?”

  •

  •   “Can they hop?”

  •

  •   “Do they lay metal eggs?” (???)

Why did no one do this when we were still in mock-up?

We recommend FAST ACTION before this becomes a viral meme.

Subject: RE: RE: Unexpected Perception Issue — Are We Sure??From: Dr. Rosen ? Time: 07:02 MST

To clarify: BT4 units are industrial debris-handling platforms, not mascots.

The masts are sensor towers. They are not ears. They have never been ears. They will never be ears.

Please advise PR to stop calling them ears in internal documentation.

  Rosen,

I respect you. I respect engineering. I respect our multidisciplinary synergy.

But you need to see what the algorithm sees.

Attached Image: BT4 silhouette in front of sunriseGoogle Vision result: “Bunny. Bunny. Rabbit. Animal. Cute.”

  This is a disaster.

  Subject: PUBLIC MISINTERPRETATION RISK

From: H. Kettering (Compliance Legal) ? Time: 07:16 MST

  PR,Engineering,

  We have three simultaneous risks:

  1.   Anthropomorphic attribution — Public may assume behavioral traits not listed in warranty.

  2.

  3.   Emotional attachment — Increases liability during recalls, resets, or decommissioning.

  4.

  5.   Mascotization — Courts have ruled that the more “character-like” a device becomes, the more public backlash occurs when it malfunctions or is removed.

  6.

  We STRONGLY recommend:

  •   No further “cute” behavior

  •

  •   No “acknowledgement beeps”

  •

  •   No “lifting the sensor masts” when addressed

  •

  •   No “interacting with children through fences”

  •

(Why do I even need to list these? Why would a trash-handling robot even DO any of this?)

Subject: Update from Coyote Vale SiteFrom: Field Tech Flores ? Time: 07:40 MST

  Just arrived on scene.

  Local children already chanting:

  “MR. TRASHY! MR. TRASHY!”

Units appear calm but are… oriented toward the fence.

The sensor masts move in unison when addressed by name.

Whatever is happening here, I am NOT paid enough for it.

  Subject: RE: Everything

From: Executive Ops ? Time: 07:52 MST

  Effective immediately:

  •   Do NOT correct the public on the nickname. (Streisand Effect risk: HIGH)

  •

  •   Do NOT acknowledge the nickname. (Brand instability risk: EXTREME)

  •

  •   Do NOT attempt to rebrand. (Cost overruns: catastrophic)

  •

  Monitor and report.

Whatever you do…Do not let this become viral.

  It will be too late.
