Episode 34

A man walked along the main street with an ordinary stride. He was grinning and laughing, apparently enjoying something. People looked at the man strangely but soon saw his earphones and dismissed it as nothing unusual.

It was a normal reaction to assume he was listening to something entertaining. They quickly lost interest, thinking it was a possibility since there was so much entertaining stuff on the internet.

However, no sound was coming from the earphones. He had simply worn them to avoid being disturbed by the surrounding noise.

Jihyeon was enjoying the way things were proceeding according to plan. No one would have seriously thought of attempting such a crazy thing.

  And finally, everything was over.

Jihyeon finished the work and let go of the hand holding the smartphone in his pocket. At the same time, he stretched vigorously.

Now, everything was done. Both organizations must have had quite an interesting experience with his gift.

Feeling thoroughly satisfied, Jihyeon walked slowly. It was an incident so significant that, if the truth were known, national agencies would come investigating.

But no one would know. No data was left behind. He had finished the work by overhauling all the logs. Tracking would be absolutely impossible.

  It was exhilarating.

What lunatic would attempt to hack and manipulate data in every financial institution in the country? Even while manipulating the data of all related transit points.

This kind of thing would be impossible for an ordinary person. But Jihyeon could now use his ability to that extent.

When he first obtained this power, he was so tormented that he even suffered nosebleeds from his inability to control it, but now, there were no major side effects other than extreme fatigue.

  It was fun.

Neither organization would have expected to be attacked in this manner. But they needed to learn that their opponent was a lunatic.

  But that was all.

Now, their accounts would be able to process deposits and withdrawals normally. Since the data was erased as if by magic, there would be no evidence itself unless they had taken screenshots.

They would be able to do nothing but say that a ghost had played a trick on them.

However, he had clearly sent a warning. It would force them to choose one of two things:

  Stop, or proceed toward ruin.

Of course, Jihyeon also knew that the Master and the Boss were likely to take this as a provocation rather than a warning. But this wasn't aimed only at the two people at the top.

  What about the subordinates?

It is often said that the world of gangsters is one of loyalty, but that is merely a romanticized image.

Selfish individuals who operate purely for their own gain would never want to incur a loss.

If obeying the Master's or the Boss's orders was profitable, they would move. But if not?

They would flee with a plausible excuse. It's best to avoid someone you know is a lunatic.

In any case, Jihyeon didn't care what the opponent chose. He simply planned to respond based on their actions.

If they backed off as per his warning, he wouldn't interfere anymore either. But if they crossed the line, he would really destroy them.

He was even considering permanently crippling them if necessary. Of course, that would be a crime, but his hands were already dirty. Jihyeon knew well that nothing would change even if they got dirtier.

  Only one thing was important.

The fact that he would do anything as long as he could protect the safety of himself and his family.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

Hoping they would make a wise decision, Jihyeon, dragging his tired body, returned home.

Leaning back in his office chair with vacant eyes, the Master contemplated.

The ceiling he always looked at seemed unusually unfamiliar today. Why was that?

It was probably because of what happened earlier today.

It had been a while since the Master ordered his subordinates to target Jihyeon and his family. But all the subordinates were annihilated.

No one died, but all of them were found unconscious. When he heard that news, the Master felt a chill.

That was the skill of an assassin that no one could match. Even though he had chosen only the fiercest and sharpest of his subordinates, all of them were wiped out.

They said they couldn't even counterattack. They only said that when they regained consciousness, they felt fear seeing an unfamiliar ceiling.

When he heard that, the Master concluded that the best course of action was to no longer get involved in this matter.

If the guy could even freeze bank accounts, the story was completely different now. He was already non-human.

Moreover, what could they do against an enemy who had the combat power to monitor their every move and wipe out all the separately moving subordinates?

If the enemy couldn't be fought at all, avoiding them was the best option. All other members would agree with this thought of his.

Everyone had already tasted his wrath once.

The guy had said that if they didn't bother him anymore, he wouldn't do anything further. He didn't know if he could trust that, but for now, he had no choice but to believe it.

If there was no way to win, tucking his tail between his legs was the best option.

  Perhaps it was even fortunate.

The other side had clearly demonstrated their power, but nevertheless, the matter was settled surprisingly quietly.

If he pretended not to know, his pride wouldn't be damaged. It would just be a minor happening. It was better to think that way.

"Damn it... I've lived long enough to see all sorts of nasty things happen to me."

The Master thought that and sighed. But if he really did nothing, that would be the end of it. Accepting the damage as an inevitable loss wounded his pride, but viewing it as a natural disaster was the best he could do.

Thinking that, the Master made up his mind. He wanted to avoid suffering a greater loss by getting involved in useless matters anymore.

What kind of weapon should he choose?

The Boss thought. To tolerate such an insult was something that should never happen to him. He could absolutely, absolutely not forgive it.

Of course, the lawyer and all the organization's executives tried to stop him.

  He knew.

That was the most rational choice. The other Master had already made his choice. That choice was the act of a coward.

He might have felt differently if the other Master had suggested they team up and kill the guy together, but now the Boss despised the other Master. What good was leading a larger organization if he did that?

Even if something was damaged, the person who needed to be killed had to be killed. No one had to say anything about it.

He would start with the people around him and kill everyone.

He thought of nothing else. No, he couldn't. Once blinded by rage, the Boss saw nothing else.

No, did he need to see anything else?

Once he was killed, everything would end. At least crippling him thoroughly would be enough.

Of course, his subordinates wouldn't like this decision of his. Who would like it when it was clear that they would be ruined too if he failed?

However, the subordinates must know well who their master was. What awaited those who didn't listen was obvious.

  Death.

No matter how they died, the death would be the same. Naturally, insubordination could not be forgiven.

  "Then prepare it."

The Boss said that to the lawyer. The lawyer simply replied, "Understood," without any questions.

The lawyer was not a foolish man. He did not engage in the stupid act of being exposed to violence unnecessarily. What could he say after seeing the executive who spoke on his behalf crumble under unilateral rage?

"Ah, just in case, thoroughly mess up that bastard's family too."

The Boss said that to the lawyer. The murderous intent in his voice was chilling, even though it was not directed at him now.

"Understood. But we don't have many guys available for immediate deployment."

The lawyer spoke in a voice devoid of emotion. However, he couldn't hide a slight tremor. It was the fear that he might be exposed to violence for the first time.

  "Why?"

The Boss asked the lawyer with eyes that didn't hide his killing intent. The lawyer then replied.

"A significant number of them collapsed due to someone's attack. We will deploy them immediately upon recovery, but it's impossible for now."

  "Damn it..."

The Boss was furious at the lawyer's words. But he didn't attack the lawyer for delivering bad news.

  Instead, the Boss said.

"Make sure to clean up the mess after we kill that bastard."

The Boss spoke as always. He had already taken Jihyeon's death as a given.

  "Understood."

Even though he knew there was no chance of success, the lawyer simply replied as if it were natural. He had no choice.

"Let's go. Get that idiot out of the way."

The Boss spat as he looked at the unconscious executive under his hand. And then he walked out, leading the way more than anyone else.

And the terrified subordinates followed behind him, wearing forced expressions of anger as they trailed the Boss.

  Watching that, the lawyer sighed.

He felt that their organization was finished now. It would be difficult for all the people who were dragged out to return safely.

Moreover, although he hadn't reported it to the Boss, the guys in charge of the drugs had already been arrested. It seemed another incident had occurred while they were distracted by the account problems.

With this, the organization would completely collapse. But there was nothing he could do.

All that remained was the preparatory work to reduce their sentences. The lawyer quietly entered his office to do what he had to do. Perhaps that would be the last loyalty he could show the Boss.

However, there was one thing he hadn't expected.

Outside was noisy. Especially the siren sounds were ear-splitting. By the time the lawyer opened the window to find the source of the commotion, everything was already over.

"Hah... Is this how it ends?"

The lawyer muttered with a relieved voice. And then, he quietly called his family and prepared himself mentally.
