Chapter 90: The Greatness of the Ancestor

Seeing that her teammates still seemed unconvinced, Natalia let out a soft sigh and said: "He is a very strange person. His actions are dictated entirely by his whims. Just like last time—he clearly had us at his mercy, yet he let us go in the end."

"And this time..." Onigo began hesitantly, unsure of what to say.

Natalia forced a bitter smile. "It was the same this time. His questions were nonsensical, with no apparent connection. However, we did reach a cooperation. He said that when we stage the kidnapping of the Duke’s son, he could provide us with a little 'assistance' from the sidelines."

Hearing that a cooperation had been reached, the three finally breathed a sigh of relief. In their minds, if the man had truly used force to dishonor Natalia, there was no way they could have reached an agreement.

Feeling that she had finally hoodwinked them, Natalia let out a long breath. Fortunately, she had cleaned all the "traces" off her body on the way back.

Meanwhile, Eros was walking back to the academy, feeling refreshed and relaxed. He lifted his left hand to look at the ring on his finger and marveled: "I didn't expect this thing to be able to absorb the life force of that thing." "Good thing she was there. Otherwise, I might have been exposed the first time. Such a massive amount of life force is quite easy to recognize."

Barbara didn't respond to his exclamation, which Eros found increasingly strange. Barbara was rarely this silent. What’s wrong?

Eros thought back. It seemed that ever since Natalia mentioned the Temple of the Silver Moon and he brought up the Silver Moon Goddess, Barbara had fallen into this silence. Usually, when Barbara saw him getting intimate with women, she would be embarrassed and annoyed in his soul space, calling him a "pervert" or a "erotomaniac."

Today, she was exceptionally quiet. Eros split a sliver of his consciousness and returned to his soul space. There, he saw Barbara sitting on a small stool, her elbows on her knees and her chin resting in her hands. Her expression was a mix of bewilderment and sorrow.

This was the first time Eros had seen her like this. After a few seconds of hesitation, he held his breath and asked softly: "What’s wrong?"

Hearing his voice, Barbara glanced at him and said in a desolate tone: "Did you know? The authority over the Silver Moon used to be held by my Master."

Unauthorized reproduction: this story has been taken without approval. Report sightings.

Eros was stunned. What? My ancestor used to hold the Silver Moon authority?

"Let’s talk outside." With that, Barbara vanished from his soul space and reappeared by his side, sitting on his shoulder.

Eros’s gaze was involuntarily drawn to Barbara’s long legs clad in delicate white silk. However, since he was currently in a "desire-free" state, he only paused for a second before asking: "You said the Silver Moon authority was once controlled by the Ancestor?"

Barbara looked up at the bright moon in the night sky and gave a soft "Mhm." Her voice was crisp yet gentle. "The authority over the Silver Moon indeed belonged to the Master." "In addition, there were the authorities of the Stars, Death, Secrecy, Night, and Shadows. There were also other scattered fragments of authority that hadn't reached the level of a Divine Throne."

Eros gasped. "So many? Then why do the family records only mention Secrecy, Night, and Shadows?" At this thought, Eros’s heart jumped. The authority of Death used to belong to the Ancestor? Does that mean the current God of Death and Reincarnation gained his power from that betrayal?

Barbara’s voice was light and ethereal. "The betrayers must have joined forces to rewrite the history of the world!" "That’s why the records vanished. If the entire world forgets the Master, then the Master will truly be lost."

Rewriting the history of the entire world... can a human really do that? Oh, right. They are Gods.

It took Eros a long time to digest this explosive news. Then, he noticed an inconsistency. "If they rewrote it, why didn't they wipe the Ancestor out of history completely? Why do we still remember the authorities of Shadows, Night, and Secrecy?"

Barbara smiled, her soft lips curling up. "Sometimes, that 'Stupid Book' is actually useful."

Eros had a moment of realization. "The power of Secrecy."

"Exactly. Unlike me and Sylvia, that Stupid Book is the incarnation of the Authority of Secrecy—the complete authority itself. She must have hidden both me and Sylvia. Since the betrayers couldn't find our history, they couldn't rewrite it. That is why the family records still mention those three authorities."

"Wait, if you all remember, why didn't you mention it and have the family correct the texts?" Eros asked. Given the status of the three artifacts, the family would have complied instantly.

Barbara shook her head, her eyes clouded. "I don't remember either. The power of 'History' must have affected us as well. It was only after hearing the name 'Silver Moon Goddess' in your soul space that those memories suddenly flooded back. That’s why I came out to perform a test."

She turned to Eros with a complex look. "Now that I'm in the outside world, those memories are slowly fading. I’ll likely forget them again soon. This is the power of History. But your soul seems to be able to isolate that power. In your soul space, I’m not affected. As long as I receive a reminder, I can remember again."

Eros’s lip twitched. He was becoming numb to his own specialness. After a soft sigh, Barbara vanished, returning to his soul space. Eros knew she was in a bad mood and didn't disturb her. After all, finding out that the things that once belonged to your Master are now in the hands of others—while your Master’s status is unknown—is a heavy blow.
