And so, my journey began.
Walking forward.
A simple, yet very effective strategy: traveling in a straight line, searching for… something.
What was I searching for exactly?
Literally anything!
That forest was beautiful, truly!
Under the sun, the redwoods were breathtaking with their endless stretching; with their peace and quiet.
For a moment, I imagined building a home there. A house in the tallest tree, then a larger one in another, and maybe smaller ones hanging nearby—connected by reinforced vine-rope bridges.
Four cabins.
No… five would last me a long time.
A peaceful life.
A safe life.
But daylight revealed an uncomfortable truth.
It wasn’t a lush forest!
It was a desert wearing trees as a disguise.
No undergrowth.
No berries.
No bushes.
Even plants were scarce—and by scarce, I meant nonexistent. Just earth and dirt and scattered patches of moss I didn’t even bother inspecting.
So a journey was inevitable!
"FORWARD IT IS!"

After what felt like miles of redwood desert, I finally reached~
A new destination!
...
SIKE!
It was just another desert...
Of oak trees.
“Awesomeee—NOT!”
Back to walking.

Which eventually led me to—
Drumrolls, please—
Another.
Freaking.
Redwood forest.
That one stung a little, but I wasn’t about to give up.

And the thing about not giving up?
It usually gets rewarded.
That reward came in the form of familiar horns poking through a bush.
Demonic rabbits.
Perfect, time to test their stolen abilities.
I could toggle that morph skill with my very intuition. Think of the 8th grade syndrome, but it actually works in this world.
The rabbit ears gave away enemy positioning while the legs gave me crazy mobility!
It did destroy my shoes though...

With my biology changed and footwear ruined, I was ready for combat.
I revealed the kunai from within my sleeves, bent my knees, and leapt toward a nearby tree. My enhanced jump carried me higher than expected. The rabbit feet were equipped with claws that easily pierced the wood and stabilized me sideways with a strong grip—but not for long.
CRACK!
A chunk of bark exploded outward as I kicked off, turning momentum into a dash.
Mid-air, I adjusted my angle.
I gripped the stone weapons.
Aimed for the creature's neck.
SLASH!
Clean.
Precise.
Instant!
It worked. And as soon as I got the hang of it, it kept on working.
What followed was pretty much just an effortless leveling up montage.
Four demonic rabbits encounters over the hour spent in there.
Also, four clean one-shots.
I was growing.
Through swift executions.
And naturally, my level caught up as well.

A Level 2 Demonic Rabbit was worth 4 XP.
And my XP requirement doubled each level.
1 → 2 → 4 → 8 → 16…
That sucked... big time.
I'll need 256XP for Level 10, then 512XP for Level 11, and eventually over 1000XP for Levels 12 and above... A thousand and twenty-four to be specific.
"...Please tell me double XP weekends are a thing!"

At least I gained two more Pyramid Dice Throws for the time being.
I’d save them for later.
Because something else had caught my attention.
During the fourth fight, I’d heard it.
A noise.
Soft.
Distant.
A shy, continuous melody.
At first, I ignored it—I was in the middle of combat after all—but after I've claimed my reward in succulent meats, my mind was drawn to that sound.
Something existed out here besides endless trees and lonely silence.
A direction.
My sleeves swallowed the weapons, my bag ate the broken shoes, and my legs started moving—more like jumping, actually. Like an actual bunny.
Leap after leap, the hum grew clearer, blending with the rustling wind until realization slowly dawned on me.
Water?
Moving water!
My pace quickened.
And then, at last—
The forest opened.
Before me stretched a river, sunlight shining across its surface like glass in motion.
I stopped at the edge, staring.
