Chapter 1:. Kevin The Gamer (KTG)

Chapter 1: Kevin The Gamer (KTG)

The school bus cruised steadily along the smooth asphalt road, its large tires humming beneath a rising sun. Inside, it was packed with students—chatting, laughing, sharing music, and throwing playful insults as they made their way to another ordinary day of school.

Toward the middle row of seats, a quiet figure sat near the window, clutching his bag tightly on his lap. He looked like he was trying to blend into the seat, his shoulders hunched and his eyes downcast.

A more confident student crossed the aisle and slid into the seat beside him. "Hey," he said with a friendly tone. "You the new kid?"

The quiet boy nodded slightly. "Y-Yeah," he mumbled. "My name's Kevlar."

"Kevlar?" the other boy grinned. "Dude, that name reminds me of KTG."

Kevlar tilted his head. "KTG? Who’s that?"

A couple of students nearby overheard and turned around with curious smirks.

"You don’t know KTG?" one of them said. "He’s, like, a legend."

The bus rumbled on as the scene transitioned...

  ---

[Elsewhere – 7:15 AM, Suburban House]

An alarm blared like a siren of doom.

A hand shot out from beneath the covers and slapped the clock off the nightstand.

In one swift motion, a teenage boy sat up, his dreadlocks sticking out in wild directions. “Dang it!” he shouted, leaping out of bed. “I'm gonna be late for the bus!”

Kevin Rukky—better known to most as KTG: Kevin the Gamer—raced into the bathroom. In less than ten minutes, he had showered, combed his hair with impressive speed, yanked on his uniform, and charged down the stairs like a storm.

  "Mom! I’m going!"

"At least eat something first!" his mother called from the kitchen, still in her nightgown.

Kevin grabbed a sandwich off the table and took a massive bite. "Thanks, love you!"

Bag slung over one shoulder, he dashed out the door just as the school bus pulled up outside.

  ---

  [Back on the Bus]

The students barely noticed the bus door opening until Kevin stepped inside.

A few heads turned. Whispers started.

"There he is... the legend himself."

  "KTG in the flesh."

Kevlar looked up in surprise as someone nudged him. "That’s KTG," the student whispered. "Kevin the Gamer. The VR king of our school."

Kevin had a dark complexion that gleamed in the morning light, deep brown eyes that scanned the bus with relaxed confidence, and neat dreadlocks that brushed his shoulders. He was dressed in a neatly pressed school uniform and carried himself like someone who had already beaten the game of life—twice.

“Hey KTG!” a student in the back called. “Want to run a match of Final Combat tonight?”

Kevin raised an eyebrow. “You mean that VR shooter? Wanna see me make it 25-0 again?”

  The bus erupted with laughter.

A girl leaned over from the seat in front of Kevlar. “KTG! Can you help me beat this level on Cursed Galaxy? I’ve been stuck for days.”

Kevin smirked. “Not my genre, but sure. Let’s see.”

He took her handheld console, tapped a few buttons with lightning speed, and within seconds, the screen lit up: YOU WIN.

  Gasps rang out.

“No way! That was, like, under a minute!” the girl said, eyes wide.

  “Thanks, KTG!”

Kevin handed the console back with a nonchalant smile. “Anytime.”

Suddenly, the entire bus began to chant. “KTG! KTG! KTG!”

Kevlar looked around, clearly overwhelmed. He hadn’t expected this kind of celebrity treatment on his first day.

One of the students leaned over to Kevin. “Hey, have you played Kakze yet?”

  Kevin blinked. “What’s Kakze?”

“You don’t know? It came out two days ago. It’s insane! Everyone’s talking about it.”

Another added, “Yeah, but good luck getting it. It's already sold out in all the stores.”

  “Seriously?” Kevin asked, now intrigued.

“Yup. My cousin stood in line for three hours and still didn’t get a copy. It's that popular.”

Kevin leaned back, crossing his arms. “If it’s that good… I need to get my hands on it.”

Before anyone could reply, the driver shouted, “Alright, everyone! We’re here. Off to class!”

  ---

  [At School – Classroom 3B]

The students took their seats. The atmosphere buzzed with leftover energy from the bus ride.

At the front of the class stood Mr. Benson, their young but strict teacher. He held a clipboard and wore a mischievous smile that instantly made the room nervous.

  “Alright, everyone. Surprise quiz today!”

  The room erupted in groans.

“But,” Mr. Benson raised a finger, “the top five students with the highest scores will each receive a full VR headset and a console copy of Kakze—the new limited-edition game.”

  Dead silence.

  Then—cheers.

  “WHAT?!”

  “You’re kidding!”

  “No way!”

“YES!” Kevin pumped his fist under the desk. Perfect timing…

“You’ve got 90 minutes,” Mr. Benson said. “Make them count.”

  ---

[1 Hour 30 Minutes Later – Quiz Results Time]

Mr. Benson stood in front of the class again, flipping through the test papers with exaggerated drama.

“We’ll start from the top,” he said. “First place… Emily Elite.”

All eyes turned to the front row, where a girl sat calmly, arms folded, expression unreadable.

Emily had long black hair, midnight-dark eyes, and a perfectly ironed uniform. She was famous in the school—not just for being one of the smartest students—but also for being the heiress of Elite Corporation, one of the leading tech companies in the world. Her wealth, brains, and beauty made her untouchable in the eyes of many… and also wildly misunderstood.

Some students whispered behind their hands.

  “She’s so arrogant.”

“She probably paid to get first place.”

  “She’s too perfect—it’s annoying.”

Kevin rolled his eyes and whispered, “Maybe she just rejected you, and you still haven’t recovered.”

The boy beside him blushed. “Wh-what?! I never even asked her!”

Mr. Benson continued, “Second place… Jerry Thompson!”

Jerry, the class clown and surprisingly decent student, raised both fists like a champion. “Let’s go!”

Kevin tensed in his seat. Three more slots left… Come on…

“Third place…” Mr. Benson paused, then smiled. “Kevin Rukky.”

  The class erupted in cheers.

  “Let’s go KTG!”

  “Kakze is yours, baby!”

Kevin stood up and walked to the front, a huge grin on his face. Mr. Benson handed him the prize—a high-spec VR headset with a sleek black box bearing the glowing word: KAKZE.

Kevin stared at it, heart pounding.

  This was it.

  The next level.

He clutched the game tightly and said, loud enough for everyone to hear, “I’m going to be the best at Kakze too.”

Some students laughed. Others nodded knowingly.

Emily, still seated, looked at him quietly, her eyes narrowing slightly—but not unkindly.

Kevlar, watching from the back, whispered to himself. “He really is KTG…”
