Chapter 17: Three different paths

  (Kiriwatari Chiyoe’s POV)

Ever since Yasutaira Waka joined my academy, he has gone on to do a lot of incredible things, especially for someone his age. He still has a long journey to go, but with good mentoring, he’ll one day stand proudly among the greats.

As for me, there’s also a long journey waiting for me to be there at the finishing line: The truth behind Yasutaira Waka’s parents.

After the incident at the Miller Mega Center, [Holy Church] and [Knights of Tomorrow] has regained partnership, alongside with the shocking truth I just mentioned. Normally, finding someone’s death parents shouldn’t be that hard, but in this case, it’s the exact opposite.

Known as the [Deadly Duo], Yasutaira Hiro and Yuuki Chisato are among the strongest and most notorious figures in the underworld. No one actually knew their real names except for a selected few, and even then, it’s not like they would spill the bean under any circumstances.

They didn’t work for a specific organization but instead opted for a freence route. Some of the clients described them as “unpredictable wildcards that could trigger an entire downfall of multiple generations if not handle carefully”. Not only that, their presence alone once brought fear to a lot of, if not most of the powerful individuals, so no one would even dare to challenge them.

What makes them stand out even more than is how mysterious they were. You can’t contact them using regur methods, and whenever they showed up, it's like you’re talking to phantoms.

In addition, they always concealed their identities with eye masks, made it even harder to trace their steps. Combine that with the ability to bypass basically every types of security known to man with ease, you simply can’t hide from them. If they wanted to come at you, they don’t try, they just do it.

With that much reputation on them, it’s no surprise that when they announced their retirement, the underworld felt like they have lost a big piece of themselves, even if it was just for a short while before it returned to its chaotic nature.

Since then, what the duo was up to or where they were was yet another mystery to be solved. For years, they had done a great job keeping their identities hidden and thus, they had managed to have a normal, peaceful life, which is quite impressive.

But then, disaster struck, as the underworld was once again shaken, this time by their unfortunate deaths. At first, everyone thought it must be one of the enemies they had made in the past, but soon…they quickly realized no one was responsible for their passing.

“That time period…it sure was crazy to say the least…” I thought to myself.

That whole fiasco alone is enough material for a multi-season documentary series, provided that you can find someone with the knowledge and daring enough to make it, but like I mentioned, not everyone have them to even begin with.

“Huh, I think this is the right address…”

What I do have in hand however is the where the Yuuki family’s mansion is. Located in Isumi, a city on the west coast of southern Chiba, the family was once a powerhouse not to this area but the entire nation as well.

Their history first dated back to the early 1800s, years before Chiba was established. From humble fishermen, they had built themselves an empire sted for hundred of years.

Not only that, many great fighters in history also came from this family as well. You can say that they’re blessed by the gods, and they have history to back up that cim.

Unfortunately, ever since that “incident”, things just aren’t the same anymore.

Around May 1992, the mansion was burnt down, leading to the allegedly “death” of Yasutaira Hiro and Yuuki Chisato alongside dozens of housekeepers and , Chisato-san’s fiancee at the time.

It was a devastated time to say the least: An empire built for years was on the verge of falling down. Luckily, they still remain strong up until now, but those glory days...since that fated day, they never once returned to it.

As the result, the newer mansion is now isoted from the rest of the area, which only one small road leading to it.

The locals were kind enough to give me a ride, although they did question my appearance and intention. Even then, I still have to climb up some stairs just to make it to the main gate, not to mention the suitcase I’m bringing with me.

From what I’ve known, they haven’t met their daughter since that “incident”, but they at least are still one of the few people knowing their true identity.

Of course, that’s not the entire truth. For years, the Yuuki family has kept the fact that the first two survived well hidden, and those who knew at the time vowed to never speak about it ever again. That factor alone makes it ten times harder for me to look into it, but I didn’t earn the nickname [Phantom Mist] for no reason.

Their hearts must have broken into pieces hearing the news. After all, it’s their daughter, and losing someone close to you is something I can totally rete. This meeting…is not just me looking for answers, it’s them also.

“Greetings. So you must be Kiriwatari-sama, is that correct?”

“Oh yes, that is correct, but “Chiyoe” is fine. No need to be too formal.”

After a few minutes of waiting, the main gate is finally opened. Behind it, a woman with purple one-eyed bangs appears alongside two housemaids right behind her and welcomes me. I greet her back in exchange then confirm a little bit more information per the mansion’s procedure.

She’s wearing a typical bck suit with a sword round her waist, suggesting that she’s some kind of bodyguard. From what I’m sensing from her...she’s quite strong, and if she’s serious enough, she might give even the school council duo a hard time. Regardless, I’m not here to test her strength, nor I want a war with this family.

“Well then…right this way, Chiyoe-sama. Master is waiting for you inside. By the way, my name is, but you can call me “Yuuka”.”

The woman then guides me to the reception room with the housemaids escorting me as well. There’s also a lot of housekeepers taking care of this pce as well, and they all stop to greet me as I’m walking through them.

As expected from one of the oldest family in this area, the mansion is quite traditional, although according to the woman, they just recently had a little renovation.

“Yeah sure it's not like we’re having guests all the time, but there's still people living here, so at the very least, we should treat ourselves right.” she said.

  “I see...”

We then stop in front of a white sliding door. The woman knocks on it twice and announces my appearance. After a rather deep voice of approval, she then opens the door and step to the same side as the door as well. As the housemaids and I step into the room, I’m met with, well, a pleasant surprise.

“Ah greetings, you must be the woman on the phone. Kirwatari Chioye I assume?”

“Yea...Yes, that was me, I’m here for the meeting we arranged yesterday. I believe you’re Asami-sama?”

The reception room itself is what you normally see, with a transom, alcove and a built-in desk below a window as well. The room also has flooring tatami with a low table, and that’s where the problem stems.

In front of me, an old man in a navy blue yukata is sitting there waiting for me. Behind him, another woman in bck suit is guarding him, and her look…is somewhat simir with Yuuka-san. They might be reted to each other, but let’s find it out ter shall we?

Right now, let’s focus on Asami-sama here for a bit. Despite being covered by the bck hoari, his ripped arms can still be seen with multiple scars on it alongside a big one running down his left cheek.

Normally, I wouldn’t be too surprised, that is until you realize he’s in his 80s. I know science has come a long way, but his physique…it just comes straight out from those anime the kids love to watch.

Am I in that kind of anime, and making a “fourth-wall break” joke is the only way to notice that?

“Very well then…please, have a seat. We’ll discuss that matter here. Hina, can please be a joy and prepare our guest here some tea?”

One of the housemaids behind me nods her head and leaves the room. The other one asks to take off my jacket, and I kindly agree, only if she lets me keep the cigarette pack inside the left pocket.

“That’ll be no problem, Chiyoe-sama.” she softly replied.

I take off my jacket and give it to her. I then get into my prepared seat and put my suitcase right next to me. Meanwhile, Yuuka-san joins with her allegedly “sister” and stands behind Asami-sama.

“Mind if I smoke, Asami-sama? I really need to let one out right now.” I asked.

“Haha, of course you can. Make yourself feels like home.”

I reach to my cigarette pack on the table and light one up. There’s an ashtray already sitting on the table as well, and since the owner here doesn’t mind it at all, I take my time to enjoy it.

“We didn’t expect such a meeting would happen this soon, so I apologize for this teness. I hope you could overlook it.” Asami-sama said as he’s bowing down.

“Oh no, that’s OK, you don’t need to apologize. I’m not a squeamish type of person, so we can always wait if we wanted. Although, that’s not why I’m here…”

I quickly discard the cigarette on my hand. I then open my suitcase and hand Asami-sama some document files. I’m not pnning to stay the night, so all I have on me is the information regarding Yasutaira Waka, which is exactly what I just gave to him.

As he’s taking a look at the files, I can see the shocking reaction on his and the bodyguards’ faces, but it only sted for a split second. They already knew about the death of their loving kids, so this reveal to them is more than just a pleasant surprise.

“I see, so this is the “interesting information” you were talking about…” Asami-sama mumbled. “To think that I can still have a grandson even in this age…Does he know any of this?”

“I’m afraid not, Asami-sama. I only began this little “investigation” not too long ago, and I only intend to tell him when all the curtains are pulled down. I’m sure he’ll still figure it out somehow.”

“Hmm…Chioye-sama, it said here that his nickname is [The Heretic] due to him never, you know, did “it”. Yet here he possesses two abilities, and one of them could potentially give him the power to rival [Elite Ten]. How is that even possible?”

“Huh, now that you mentioned it onee-san…his mana…is beled as “Extreme”. Just what is this guy’s deal anyway?”

All of sudden, Yuuka-san and her sister start asking questions about Yasutaira-kun, which is something I anticipated. His situation…it’s not like any we’ve seen before, so it definitely raises a lot of eyebrows. Luckily, I have prepared for this scenario.

“Well, he’s the son of one of the strongest couples we’ve seen in the past 30 years, and he works hard his entire life for not just his death parents, but those who choose to believe in him. I assume you’ve heard of the incident at the Miller Mega Center. That is him and his friends’ doing, and thanks to that, my old friends can live to see another day.”

It seems like I, or should I say Yasutaira-kun, has made a great impression on them. After hearing what I said, besides a surprising reaction, the three of them are very happy, so much so that Asami-sama almost cries in tears.

“You know Chiyoe-san…my wife used to tell me to keep training this body not just for health but rather…to wait for something I truly deserve after everything I’ve done and been through. I never understand her words, and unfortunately, I’ll never have a chance to ask her the meaning…”

He then briefly goes through the tragic death of his beloved wife eight years ago. He told me that his family is blessed with longevity generations after generations, but the one after him…it was a rough time.

“And now, maybe, just maybe…he’s what all my wife was talking about. I won’t know it until I met him, but for now…I have faith.” Asami-sama lowered his voice as he said.

"I can assure you Asami-sama, that he’ll continue to achieve great things. After all, he inherited not just the power, but the spirit of a great man.”

I take out my phone and show him a projection of the sword belongs to Yasutaira-kun, and that caught his attention. He strokes his beard pensively for a while before calling the other housemaids to tell her something.

“Yes Master, I’ll go get it.”

The housemaid then leaves the room, just in time for the first one to comeback with the tea. As they’re gently served to us, Asami-sama gives back the files to me and I put them back into the suitcase.

“I know you’re here to unveil the mystery, and I wanted to help really, but just like you, we don’t have the answer. Trust me, we tried. However, I think I know someone who have what you need. In the mean time, let’s enjoy ourselves a little bit shall we?”

We take a little sip. The taste…it’s quite unique I must say. I’ve had many teas in my life, and this one really knows how to stand out.

“Haha, I’m gd you enjoy it, but just so you know, we’re not telling you where we got this from.” Asami-sama said jokingly.

“Oh please Asami-sama, this is [Phantom Mist] you’re talking about. Nothing goes under my radar, and even if it did, I’ll still dig it up regardless.” I replied with the same spirit.

The second housemaid returns the same time I put down the cup. She’s holding a picture in a frame, and after giving it to Asami-sama, he hands it to me right away.

“That sword...let’s just say it had a long history, and it started with what you’re seeing right there.”

A younger version of Asami-sama can be seen in the picture alongside a short old man with thick beard. It seems like he was in his 30s or 40s in this shot, and they’re standing in front of an anvil while holding Yasutaira-kun’s sword.

"So this shop...is where it was made I believe?” I asked.

Asami-sama nods his head. He then takes another sip before continuing the conversation.

"That man you’re seeing right there, he’s a legend in the swordsmith world. It’s an unfortunate that he also passed away a long time ago, but his legacy still continues until this day. If you want to witness that legacy on your own, turn that picture around.”

I do what he said a small piece of paper appears in front of my eyes. In there lies what I assume to be an address of some kind, and in addition, a name is also written below it.

"That shop is very strict on who is and isn’t allowed to enter, so when you get there, just say “I’m looking for [The Maker]” and show them the picture. As far as I concern, everything you need to know about the sword is all there, and I believe it could be an important clue.”

I look at the picture for quite a while. I’ve heard rumors about this shop, and even after those years and connections, I still treated it as some sort of myths, but not anymore. This right here might py a major role in this investigation, and I shall put it into good use.

“Thank you very much Asami-sama. This favor...I will never forget. Is there anything I could do to repay it?” I said with my head bowing down.

“Oh no Chiyoe-san, I should be the one thanking you. You've brought hope to this old man in these dark days, so if anything, I owe you.”

I raise my head up. I then carefully put the picture into the suitcase. After that, I stand up and thank Asami-sama for the meeting. However, before I can leave the room, he asks me to stick around for a little bit longer.

“Ah I almost forgot...Here, take this.”

I turn around to see that Asami-sama is handling me an USB. I ask him what’s inside, and the answer I get is “It’s a secret, but you’ll love it” with a smile on his face. I didn’t sense any bad intentions behind those actions, so I gdly receive it.

After that, I say goodbye to Asami-sama. There’s a tournament coming up at my own academy, so I’ll need to be there not just to see how far my students go, but to confirm something else that might ruin its reputation if not handle carefully.

I then being escorted to the main gate by the bodyguard sisters, ending the meeting that will eventually lead me to the answer I’m looking for in a distant future.

  (Yasutaira Waka’s POV)

Fifteen minutes have passed since I lost my conscious.

In that time, I was carefully taken down from the arena so the recovery can begin. Lucky for me, time works different here than the outside world, so I can just take as much time as I wanted.

As I’m slowly opening my eyes, I’m met with a lot of familiar faces, and I can clearly see the relief on those faces.

  “Yasutaira-kun, you’re finally awaked!”

I get up and immediately, Takenada-san gives me a tight hug. I haven’t got back to my fullest strength, so besides the emotion, I can also feel my bones on the verge of breaking. Regardless, I still take it.

“Huh, so these girls were right. You really love doing this aren’t you?”

  “Haha…”

From behind, Athena joins in the conversation with a joke. At first, I was surprised there isn’t any battle damage on her, but she expined that she already healed up from [Lynx Judgement], and I should be honored to be the first mortal to ever damage her.

“But honestly boy, you should pick up another hobby than what you showcased to me. After all, you can only rest when things are all said and done, am I right?” Athena said.

“Well, I’ll try my best in the future. For now, I can really use a shirt. I’ve already lost two, and I’m not getting back to the mansion half-naked.

As I said that, I take a look around and notice that Tiamat is no longer here. She was right in front of me when I woke up, but for some reason, she just mysteriously disappeared.

  “Here Master, put this on.”

  “Ah thanks Tiamat.”

Fortunately, I don’t need to wait too long for the answer, as she reappears not too far from me and throws me a jacket. This is the one I wore back when I first arrived at the mansion, and I quickly put it on after catching it.

“Say my jacket is here, so does that mean…” I asked.

“Yeah Master, I teleported back to the mansion and got it. Was it necessary? Not really, but hey, we’ve done our job, so those minor details aren’t that matter at all. And speaking of “minor details”…”

Tiamat then shifts her attention to [Apocalypse Warlord], who’s sitting silently at the chairs. Her face is a mixed of frustration, worried and somewhat uncomfortable as she’s staring at us.

“What did you do Tiamat?” I asked.

“Well, I gave her a deal she couldn’t refuse, like literally. In short, we’ll let her go in exchange of altering this event when she returns and writes her report. Oh and all the evidences…she has no choice but to let them be destroyed.”

I then approach [Apocalypse Warlord] to ask her, and unsurprisingly, I get the same answer. However, Tiamat did mention “minor details”, which is what I’m more curious about.

“Ah that. When I said “altering”, it also applies to me too. Well…let’s say that I’ve impnted a fake memory into that woman’s head.” she expined. “Ah but don’t worry Master, it can only be triggered through special conditions, so it’s basically harmless.”

  “And those “special conditions” are?”

Tiamat then contacts me through [Telepathic Line] and reveals it to me. The idea of pying with someone’s head and psychic isn’t something I’m a fan of, but since she has her consent, there’s nothing much I can do.

“So for the soldiers, it’s not an “impnt” but rather…a “repcement”, right?”

“Yes Master, unfortunately. That woman I can have some faith on, but them? No thank you. A person is smart, but people are dumb and also talkative. The best way to keep their mouth shut is to erase whatever topic it is from their heads permanently.” Tiamat said.

  “I see…then I guess we should head back and finish what’s left…”

“Hold it right there you two!”

All of sudden, a voice interrupts us. Both of us turn back and quickly realize that the voice belongs to Athena, who somehow can also communicate with us using [Telepathic Line] as well.

“I have a bad feeling about this Master...” Tiamat said worriedly.

  “Yeah, me too...”

“Sheesh, like master, like servant. It’s only been months yet you two already established such a bond. I'm quite jealous.” Athena said. “Which is why I’ve decided to be your servant boy! Be grateful for I have taken a liking on you!”

You definitely can’t see this, but Tiamat and I are straight up facepalming in despondency. In Tiamat’s case, it’s a force majeure. Both parties did not know or expect it to happen at all. However, this is the exact opposite.

“I can’t really say no, can I? I mean, having another powerful ally by my side is nice and all but...It’s a bit forced you know?”

“Haha, maybe you’re right boy, maybe I’m asking for too much.” Athena repsonded. “But hey, protecting this pnet is our job anyways, so helping a kid becoming a great boss is quite an interesting way of doing it don’t you think?”

I don’t know whether I’m paranoing or not, but I feel like not getting a read of gods might be a reocurring theme in the future.

Despite being interested in someone like me, I can't just see why she has to go that far. Maybe there’s another reason behind it, or maybe...the surface is all there is to it. Regardless, the decision is mine to make.

"So Tiamat, what do you think?” I asked.

“Well frankly, I’m half excited and half concerned. Yeah sure you’ll become even stronger with her in the equation, but it might also risk my chance of being the one and only favorite servant of yours. Then again, having a competition isn’t a bad option...”

The more she says, the less serious she becomes. Fortunately, at least she’s still somewhat on the same boat with me, and if she doesn’t mind it...

“Well then Athena...welcome to this family. Now, shall we begin the process?”

I might as well just go along with it, starting with a welcoming handshake. Of course, she receives it with a bright smile on her face. After that, we both head to the arena with Tiamat, and it quickly got the attention of the rest.

“Uhm Yasutaira-kun...what are you doing?” Takenada-san asked.

I stop and turn around. The remaining three are quite surprised to see what we’re doing, and my best friend is the one showing the most concern about. After all, none of them has ever seen what’s about to happen.

  “Ah uhm...you see...how do I say this...I’m forming a contract with Athena.”

  “Eh?”

  “Wait a minute, again?”

  “Tsk...”

All three of them show a shocking reaction, with [Apocalypse Warlord] turning her head to the left in anger. I then expin to them what happened, and surprisingly, they all get excited.

“Woah, so now two goddesses are going to train you...man I have to level up my training game. I can’t let myself be left behind!”

“Haha Naomi-chan, sign me up too. How am I supposed to recover from this? Besides, you need more sparing partners right?”

As my friends are joking, the three of us continue from where we left. Since [Summoning Magic] eats up a lot of mana, Tiamat puts her hand on my shoulder and recharges me in case I pass out again. Shortly after, Athena and I get into the same position we originally started out our fight.

“Alright, you two can start now! Make it quick and snappy!”

Both of us nod our heads. I then close my eyes and starting powering up. Immediately, a magic circle appears below me and soon after, a giant blue pilr starts covering me with wind whirling around me like a small typhoon.

  “[Summoning Magic]!”

I open my eyes and raise my right hand, casting the ability. Immediately, I can feel my mana being drained drastically, and as the result, I kneel down on my knee.

  “Hghh!! What the…my head…why is it so…”

To make matter worse, my brain starts being filled with tons of information, to the point of almost overloading. The feeling…it’s like a part of my soul is leaving my body, and I can only hold my head and try my best to endure the excruciating pain.

  “Hgh…Argh!!!”

After battling for quite a while, I let out a loud scream. As my teeth is grinding, I can feel the veins on my head popping aggressively, and they show no sign of stopping at all.

  “ARGH!!!”

In my desperate effort, I clench my right fist and punch down the ground. Surprisingly, I somehow activate a rger magic circle than the one presenting, and immediately after that, both of them disappear simultaneously alongside the giant pilr surrounding me.

  “*puff puff*…So that’s how it feels huh…”

My body starts sweating all over me, and my muscles feel like they've been working out nonstop for 10 yeasr straight. I try my best to get up, only to kneel down on my left knee puffing and gasping for air.

  "Yasutaira-kun! Are you alright?”

“Hang it right there, we’re coming!”

Takenada-san and Kariuda-san quickly run on stage, with Tiamat on the other side heading towards me as well. As they’re helping me standing up, we both look at the while pilr with questions all over our heads.

  “Wait, it hasn’t gone yet…”

“Yeah, that’s pretty weird…it should have faded out by...Ah nevermind, it’s happening.”

The moment Tiamat answers my question, the white pilr starts losing its color. After another while, it bursts out windbst that almost knocks us back before gradually disappears in front of our eyes, revealing a brand new Athena.

  “Woah, amazing…” Kariuda-san awed.

“Man what a show-off…” Tiamat whispered.

Saying she’s “brand new” is a bit of a stretch if we’re only counting her looks: It doesn’t change much besides a golden urel wreath wrapped around her head and the return of her signature [Spear of Infinity].

However, the aura around her…it’s even beyond what she showcased me during our fight.

It’s like…the ritual gave her even more strength, which is crazy consider she’s a literal goddess. Tiamat never once confirmed this, and even if it’s true, it’s definitely not something she would hide from me.

“So boy, or should I say “Master”, what do you think?”

Swinging her spear, Athena asked me with a proud smirk. It seems like she’s breaking her character a little bit just for the first impression, but that’s not all. The power, the incredible mana I’m sensing…it’s all too much.

Honestly, I can’t even think straight anymore. After everything I’ve been through tonight, I guess it’s time to let my brain rest a bit and not digging too deep into it at least until I get my rest.

“Uhm…well…it’s a bit overwhelming to say the least…might take some time to get used to it, but I must say…that’s quite the introduction.”

“And speaking of introduction…I guess we should do it properly this time: I’m Athena, [Goddess of War]. I’ve come from the [Realm of Beyond] to serve as your loyal servant. Please, use me however you please.”

She said it to me with her spear on the right shoulder while also kneeling on her left knee. She even goes so far as to bow down as well. What’s she doing doesn’t need to be this formal, yet she still commits to it.

“Ah uhm…My name is Yasutaira Waka, a fifteen-years-old kid fighting for a promise with my childhood friend. For simplicity, you can just call me “Master”. I’m gd that you’ve answered my call, and I hope we can help each other out from now on till forever.”

And if she’s serious about this, so am I, which is why I said those words in return. In addition, I also reach my hand out to her as an intimate gesture. She’s a part of this weird “family” now, so if anything, I should definitely make her feel like home.

“Yes Master, it is my pleasure. I promise I won’t disappoint you at all.”

“Yeah, looking forward to see what you can do…”

Athena then takes my hand with a bright smile on her face. I also smile back in return, and using the handholding, I pull her up as well.

“Man, it’s been a long crazy day, and I’m gd we make it” I thought to myself. “Still, I have a whole path ahead of me to go. There’re someone out there stronger than me, waiting to have a taste of my blood and flesh. I cannot allow myself to tread water at any giving point. If they wanted a war, then I’ll be there to put a stop to it once and for all.”

My one-sided fight against [Apocalypse Warlord] really opened my eyes on how far back I am. I’ve grown a lot stronger over the past few months, but so have my opponents.

However, devoting my whole life to seeking only strength isn’t exactly an ideal decision. A warrior with no soul is just a heartless beast, and that’s not what they want at all. My goal has already set in motion since the beginning, and it shall remain unchanged.

“So Yasutaira-kun…I’d say this is a victory for us right? Then I think it’s about time head back to the real world. I really need a sleep right now.” Kariuda-san said.

“Yeah me too *yawn*, too bad we won’t get to see the morning sunshine for at least another day. It’s the best thing to do here you know!” Takenada-san said as she’s stretching her hands.

As I let go of Athena’s hand, I can feel the tiredness in my friend’s voice. After all, it has to be at least one in the morning right now, and even with the time nature of [The Void], it still doesn’t change the fact that we’re staying up quite te.

“Well Master, you heard them. We should probably return and finish what’s left quick. I really want to see how advanced human beds have become.”

We then walk down the arena and head to the chairs. After that, Tiamat opens the portal back to the cave, and with that, our time in [The Void] tonight comes to an end.

As we returned back, Kira was the first to greet us. Thanks to Tiamat, to us it was an hour, but to him, it was less than five minutes. I then quickly recapped to him what had happened, and what our next move would be.

At first, Kira and the rest were quite shocked and surprised, but soon after, they immediately got back to the game and helped us. Even with the appearance of another goddess by their side, they still remained quite calm and delivered the job jusr right.

“You know Yasutaira...what I’m about to say should come out of Kariuda-san’s mouth...but what we’re doing here would probably give sensei a headache don’t you think?” Kira whispered.

“Yeah you’re right Kira...after all, we’re here for a vacation, not some impossible missions. I wonder what should we write in the ineviable report...”

Finishing his work, Kira pulled me to a private pce and began questioning me. All the time spending with Kariuda-san really made him pick up one or two hobbies, and it’s a good thing.

I don’t know much about ws, even after watching half of that one show about suits, but once he showcases “good behaviors” during the trial, the punishments might reduce greatly.

“Alrght gentlemen, just put it right there...and we’re done! Thanks everyone for the help. Now, would you mind standing back a little?”

We turn around and focus on the temple where John just put down all the monitors. He and his team then leave the small isnd and immediately take cover as Athena ordered.

Those monitors the st piece of evidences we need to destroy alongside the cameras and others. This pce was almost in shamble thanks to the fights, so we need to burn them all down without causing any other casualties, and luckily, we have just the method.

“Tiamat, you’re done with those pesky little bugs? I need you to come here quick!” Athena shouted.

“Just a minute, I’ll be right on!”

Back on nd, Tiamat, who just put all the soldiers into a temporary coma after changing their memories; responded. It’s just a contingency in case [Rising Phoenix] raises questions at our made-up story.

Regardless, shortly after that, she teleports right beside Athena. As she’s there waiting for the signal, she’s handed the wooden statue and quickly enough, she understands the assignment and puts it in a safe pce, at least that’s what she told me via [Telepathic Line].

“So, this is all there is right, no evidence left behind?”

“Well Tiamat, you can double-check if you wanted, but I’m sure you don’t to go that extra mile at all.” Athena responded.

“Alright then, stand back and peep the light show. Remember kids, do not try this at home.”

As Kira and I are also taking cover, the goddess duo begins the final part of the pn, starting with a portal connected to [The Void] that’s also just not too far in behind from the temple.

Then, by using [Telekinesis], Tiamat lifts up all the evidences alongside the temple, and during that time, Athena charges up an attack in her right palm.

  “Whoosh!”

  “Boom!”

With just a flick of her fingers, Tiamat pushes them through the portal, followed by a lily-white beam. The moment they disappears from our eyes, the portal closes as well.

“Heh, nice teamwork Athena, we really should do this more often.”

“Yeah, looking forward to that too. It’s been ages, and I really want to see what you else you can do.”

The two then stops for a bit to have a small conversation. Shortly after that, they gather up with the rest while also picking us up during that time. We’re all quite exhausted, so all we can think of right now is the soft bed back at the mansion.

“Well everyone, that’s about wrap things up. It’s quite te now, so I think we should head back to wherever we came from, and yes, that’s including you woman.”

  “...”

Tiamat turns to [Apocalypse Warlord] as she said it. The rest of us do the same, causing her to look to the side with her head down. Just from the agony look on her eyes, she definitely doesn’t want to see us ever again, at least not until she can find a way to stomp us.

“*sigh* Fine, you want something out of my mouth? Then listen carefully: You may have won tonight, but you will never win this war. It doesn’t matter how many gods you have on your side, Master will still crush you all. Soon, you’ll kneel down and beg for the mercy that never comes as we skin each one of you alive. You’ll watch the horror of trying to stop us in nothing but pain and regret. Mark my words!”

[Apocalypse Warlord] pulls out the small teleportation device after the ranting. With just a simple click, she disappears alongside her soldiers. Since we already got what we came here for, we just let her do it with no interruption whatsoever.

“Well that’s just rude.” Tiamat said jokingly. “For someone her age, she really doesn’t know any better huh. Master, you don’t mind if I personally teach her the pecking order the next time we met him?”

“I…*sigh* I don’t encourage or recommend that at all, Tiamat.” I replied.

With our enemy finally gone, we return to the mansion and spend the rest of the night sleeping. When I finally wake up, it’s already midday, and that also marks the end of our csh with another member of [Rising Phoenix].

It’s around 6:30 p.m.; meaning dinner is just around the corner.

Normally, Takenada-san’s personal chef will be the one preparing it alongside his team, but tonight, I decide to step in and give them a helping hand. After all, kitchen feels just like home to me, and after what happened to us, spending my time there isn’t a bad option at all.

“Alright everyone, you heard the kid, time to pte them all up!”

  “Yes sir!”

Followed my signal, we start bringing foods to the dining room and quickly enough, the table is fully loaded up. At the same time, John is also there supervising, making sure everything doesn’t go sideways.

  “Woah, those look delicious!”

As I’m helping everyone with the preparation, Takenada-san is standing at the front door, amazed by the feast in front of her eyes. Her outfit compares to the rest of the room is quite stood out: A crop tee top with front V neck and ruched drawstring. To accompany it, she’s also wearing short jeans, a couple of gold bracelets and a sungss as well.

Seeing that, I quickly put down the utensils and head to her. We’re almost done, and there isn’t any pressure at all, so I can leave the rest to John and his team. Besides, I have a few questions.

“Heh, you’re back already? Dinner isn’t ready until around 7 p.m. you know? Why so soon?” I asked.

“Ah uhm…well…I think you should hear it for yourself…”

Immediately, a growling sound comes out of her stomach. It’s not too loud so only I notice it, but either way, it’s quite embarrassing, and she knows it too.

“Haha, well…let’s just say I went a bit overboard back at the beach, and now…my body is calling for nutritious help…”

  “Yeah, I can see that…”

Unlike me, despite also staying up te, Takenada-san didn’t went through two one-sided matches, a hole in her body and an entire summoning process. Thus, when she’s finally recharged, she’s the most active out of the four.

As the result, the faster you burned your energy, the more you yearn to regain all of them, which expin the early return.

Of course, Kira and Kariuda-san are also quite starving according her, but they still stick around for a bit longer to pack their things. After that, I tell her dinner is on the way, and she thanks me then quickly calls the rest.

“*beep* Well they said they would be back in just a minute...So, is there anything left I can help you guys with?” she asked.

“Let’s see…ah we’re almost done now, so can just sit back and wait. Now might also be a very good time for a quick change you know?” I responded.

Takenada-san happily nods her head and quickly goes upstairs. I then decide to sit on the couch in the living room for a quick recess. A few minutes ter, Kira and Kariuda-san returns, and I’m also the one greeting them.

“Woah, what’s that smell? Man it’s making me starving!” Kira excimed.

“Well…I don’t want to spoil the fun, so you’ll have to see it for yourself ter. Here, let me help you guys.”

“Ah, no need for that, master Yasutaira. Let us take care of that matter.”

As Kariuda-san is about to hand me the cooler, some of the maids notice us and among them, Maria was the one who offered assistance. Since my friends are quite tired and hungry, they quickly agree. However, I still insist of carrying the cooler all by myself, and they don’t stop me.

“Alright, you guys know the rules, and so do I: No eating until we follow the dress code. Now it’s the perfect time to do just that.”

The three of us then head upstairs. Since I’m the only one still carrying something, the st one to step to the first floor is, well, also me. By the time I make it, the maids are almost done putting all the stuffs away.

“Ah Master Yasutaira, let me help you.”

One of the maids notices me and once again, she asks to help. This time, I agree and hand the cooler to her. As she’s heading to the storage room on the second floor, I go back to my room for a quick fash washing and changing as well.

*knock knock* “Mind if I come in?”

“Yes Master, just open the door!”

I then open the door and the first thing I see is Tiamat and Athena meditating on the beds. There’s also the sound of Takenada-san changing in the bathroom, but that’s not what I’m concerning about.

"You two are still going? It's been hours you know?”

When they told me they were meditating, they were actually just “settling the score” in [The Void]. The worst part is? They’ve been doing it way before I even woke up, and I do not see any signs of stopping anytime soon.

“Ah don’t worry Master, we’re almost done. Just need to charge up this deadly beam and she’ll go down in no time!” Tiamat said via [Telepathic Line].

“Oh no you don’t! You’re the one going down, not me!”

It seems like fists aren’t the only thing they’re exchanging. The two goddesses even go back and forth inside my mind, giving me a small but annoying headache. I really want to interrput, but they insist me of not even think of it, so the best I can do is scratch my head in frustration.

“Oh my, what will it take to stop them?”

From the bathroom, Takenada-san emerges. I turn my head and quickly notice quite a pleasing fragrance coming from her. Not to mention, her clothes also change as well: This time it’s a simple oversized pink T-shirt with a slightly longer ripped short jeans.

“Well, I think it’s best to just let them do their things. I’m sure they know exactly what they’re doing.” I responded.

  “Yeah, you’re right...”

She then tells me she just had a quick shower, which expins the scent, and since the goddess duo hasn’t quitted just yet, she had no choice but to use the hairdryer and change inside the bathroom too.

“Honestly, it might sound crazy...but I really want to see just a fraction of their ongoing battle. I might learn one or two things you know.” Takenada-san said with a bit of excitement.

"To be frank with you, I’m, well, with you on this.” I said. “Too bad I have a hungry stomach to satisfied, and I’m sure you’re on board with me on this too.”

“Haha, yeah, can’t argue with that…”

After that, I grab my clothes head to the bathroom while Takenada-san gathers up with the rest at the dining room. Unlike her, I don’t normally shower this early, so all I do is change and wash my face.

  “[Eternal Darkness]!”

All of sudden, Tiamat’s voice echoes through my mind, almost makes me drown to death in the sink. Luckily, I manage to get my head out of it, but in return, I have to agressively gasp for air.

“*pant pant* Where is it...I need...I need to...”

As my face is still soaking wet, I quickly grab the towel and wipe my face clean. It’s fortunate that my current clothes aren’t being affected regardless of them being changed ter on, but that was still a close call.

“What was that? Just what are you two even doing in there?”

“Eh Master, you heard that?” Tiamat responded.

Turns out, [Telepathic Line] is still on even after they talked to me, results in the near-death experience I just went through.

“YOU TWO FORGOT TO TURN IT OFF? I almost got killed by a sink you know?” I shouted angrily. “Do you really want “Former master being drowned to death in a bathroom somewhere in Greece” written in your resumes or something?”

Facing my raging vent, all I get is a “Teehee!” and a sorry from both. Athena’s voice is significantly lower and weaker due to being hit with a lethal attack, but she told me she would be fine.

“Look, I know how much you guys love to run those hands on each other, but us mortal can’t keep up with this level of power, so the st thing we want is being involved in this type of csh 24/7.” I said. “So please…just be a bit more careful next time alright?”

The two agrees and shuts off the communication line. After that, I wipe my face one more time before putting the towel away. I then take off my current clothes to put on a simple white tee with a brown shorts.

  "Huh, looks quite nice...”

I give myself a good look in the mirror before putting the old clothes to the nearby undry basket. Since I don't bath long after dinner, I quickly get out of the bathroom.

As I open the door, I can still see Tiamat and Athena sitting on the beds. The big difference is that they are no longer in [The Void], and one of them seems way happier than the other.

“Ah Master, you’re done?” asked Tiamat.

I respond to her while also ask about what happened back there. Turns out, [Eternal Darkness] was the final blow, defeating Athena entirely. Tiamat is now leading, but according to them, the table will turn at any given time.

“You may have won this time Tiamat, but there’s always tomorrow! You and me, after dinner! Let’s see who’s the one coming out on top now!” Athena yelled.

“But isn’t that just...I don’t know, today?” Tiamat and I asked unanimously.

Ignoring Athena’s comedic rage, we open the door and head downstairs. Kira and Kariuda-san also join us as we walk past their room. The four of us then are greeted by Takenada-san who’s waiting for us in the living room.

“So Tiamat beat her, and she’s now throwing a tantrum about it? That’s…out of character…”

I briefly expin the situation, and as expected, they’re all quite surprised to hear it. Compare what they’ve seen back at the cave to what I just told them, it’s like two completely different person.

“I won’t call that a “tantrum”, but still, it’s quite weird to see her do that. Then again, she loves a good fight with a good challenger, and we just so happen to have someone like that.” I said.

“Yeah Master, let’s just hope that “person” won’t accept the challenge and satisfy her endless thirst for battle. That would be very, very bad to say the least.” Tiamat jokingly continued.

Stopping for a short while, we then head to the dining room where everything is set and ready to be eaten. Of course, we first need to all sit down at the table, and the maids are there to help us with that.

“Ah you’re finally here, took you long enough.”

As the drinks are being served to us, Athena shows up. She seems less grumpy than a few minutes ago, not to mention she also changes her appearance to be a bit more casual. We didn’t have enough time to buy her new clothes, so instead we let her borrow Takenada-san’s oversized white tee, alongside a tucked-in loose baggy jeans.

It’s a good thing they all fit her, so when we come back home, I know exactly what to get for her.

“Come on now, I’m a part of this family. Don’t you guys have like, an entire franchise dedicated to that? If they can have a meal after finishing their jobs, so can me.” Athena jokingly responded.

She then happily goes to her seat, which is to Kira’s left. I guess not even the mightiest goddesses can resist a feast presented in front of her.

Speaking of feast, since we’re in Greece, the table features some of its dishes such as shrimp saganaki, dolmades, octopus, souvki with pita breads and tzatziki on the side and bakaliaros skordalia just to name a few.

Besides them, there’re also dishes more familiar to us like sashimi, takoyaki, curry and a lot more that aren’t being served just yet. Of course, the rest can only be loaded up once we finish what’s on the table, but before that…

“Ah I almost forgot…Yasutaira-kun, usually my father would pray before a meal. Will you do the honors?”

All eyes are then on me as she said it. I’m one of the few people on this table who knows about her house’s table manners, and to add things up, I just so happen to sit in the center of my table side. I can’t really say no, can I?

“Ah well, if you said so, let’s see…”

I quickly grab my cup and gently stand up. The rest of the table hold their hands and close their eyes in preparation. Of course, not everyone does it right away, but they all respond quite fast.

I’ve heard her father say it a couple times by now, and even though I’ve never done this before, I think I know what to say in this scenario.

“Well, the st couple of months were…quite a journey to say the least. To be here with you guys is an honor I couldn’t ask for more. No matter what we are, where we came from, we’ve all come a long way, and I believe this is just the beginning of something greater. Let’s just hope the future will be kind to us so we can all keep sharing this moment together more. Cheers.”

I then raise my cup for a toast. Everyone at the table opens their eyes and quickly does the same. Immediately, we all drink up at the same time. Most of us are still students, so of course there’s no alcohol, just soft drinks.

The moment we put our cups down is also when the dinner begins. We first all say grace then start eating. The sound of chewing and food grabbing echoes through the room, accompanied by the dishes coming on and off the tables.

“Here Takenada-san, have some more octopus. You seem to enjoy it a lot huh.”

“Well yeah, anything you cook for me, I’ll eat…Oh my god we sound like a couple. Do we sound like a couple Yasutaira-kun?”

“Oh dear, I hope not.” I responded. “Imagine what other students will think if it’s true…that would be very terrible.”

  “Yeah, you’re right…”

I still get her the octopus, regardless of what just happened. Meanwhile, everyone overheard our conversation and quickly enough, they start jumping on the trolling train.

“But wouldn’t it be so cool if you two are, you know, really in a retionship? An unstoppable duo that, against all odds, will go down as one of the greatest to ever do it. Just imagine that for a sec.” Kira was the first to provoke.

“Yeah, just think about all the fame, fortune and legacy you two can have, not to mention those sponsorship deals, franchise and merchandise. You can just buy our academy for those private dates and still have enough money to throw how many parties you want for years.” Kariuda-san followed.

“…You guys know that we don’t need more of them right? Besides, isn’t it just recklessly stupid to just blow money like that?” I responded.

“Well Master, “recklessly stupid” is kind of your thing. I won’t be surprised if something like that happens in the near future.” Tiamat jumped in as well.

Being cornered, Takenada-san and I can only awkwardly ugh it off. Of course, they didn’t mean it that way, so it’s not like we’re offended or anything. Regardless, it still makes Takenada-san blushes for quite a while, but she quickly brushes it off and continues enjoying the dinner.

Little did we know, our little vacation in Greece won’t be the craziest thing we go through this summer. The world still has a lot to offer, and it will soon throw us more challenges once we head back home.

  ([Apocalypse Warlord]’s POV)

After returning to the nearest base in Sitia, Greece, my entire squad was quickly hospitalized. After a few days, we all recovered, well at least that’s on the surface.

During the recovery, everyone in my team was questioned about the mission, and as expected, the answer is all the same: Tiamat and Takenada-san knocked them out, and as they were being tied up, the summoning ritual happened, and that’s where their memories ended.

“So you took down that Yasutaira kid, successfully did the ritual and Athena showed up from the temple as well. Unfortunately, she didn’t buy any of your words and you two got into a fight.”

“Yeah, that’s how it happened. The rest was, well...quite tragic.”

  “Huh, that’s interesting...” said [Mastermind].

He was the one doing the interrogation, and the moment he hit the dead end, he opened a new path and switched to me for more information. After all, I survived longer than all of them, and since I didn’t need much time to heal, he could just head to my office and ask.

“There was nothing I can do to her, not a single scratch…All that effort just to prove how far off we are to the realm of gods, it’s just…” I lowered my voice.

The gap between us was just too big, and a defeat was inevitable. By the time I got back up, Athena had already been gone alongside the temple, leaving both parties severly injured behind. Since the remaining enemy still had the edge over me, I had no other choice but to retreat.

At least, that’s the story I “wanted” to tell them.

"Honestly Warlord-san, I don’t bme you. The realm of gods is still way above our league, so if anything, I'm quite impressed that you managed to put on a fight and survive to tell the tale.” he said calmly. “Don’t worry, this isn’t a failure. You've proven the probability of such rituals, and trust me, the Science Division would love to hear that. For now, let’s just rest for a bit more. In the meantime, you should probably decide what to write in your report.”

  “Yeah, you’re right...Thanks.”

“Don’t mention it. As long as the world is shaped to Master’s liking, such misteps are nothing in the bigger picture.”

That conversation is the st time I talked to [Mastermind]. In the following week, I quickly make a comeback and soon enough, the sound of the battlefields have once again returned.

What has also returned and stuck in my mind however is that faithful night. I won the battle, but the war…it’s a hard-to-swallow lose and an absolute disaster.

“*sigh* It’s going to be one hell of a rough time…I don’t want to think of the worst, so I’ll have to do everything in my power to ensure Master’s vision. I don’t care if it’s an annoying kid or a god, if they dare to stop us, I’ll chop off their heads and hang them on the wall.” I thought to myself.

Years ago, I was lost in blood and darkness. Back then, all I knew was killing and spreading fear uncontrolbly. I was a wild beast, a walking terror and a killing machine. That is until Master showed up.

“I see greatness in you, and I also see it being wasted.” he said. “Join me, we’ll reshape this world, make it bow down to us. You’ll serve me and you shall be served.”

He showed me a new path, he gave me a new mission, but most importantly: I was given a new purpose in life. I became his loyal servant, and in exchange, I’ll stand alongside Master in the new paradise we’re making. It’s a blessing beyond anything you could dream of.

Yasutaira Waka…you’re just a na?ve kid, a rotten child thinking he’s the chosen one. Soon, you’ll realize just how wrong you are, that you’re nothing but an ignorant, pathetic weakling. You’ll bow down begging for the mercy that never comes, and then…you’ll have my permission to die in the most horrific way possible for your mistakes.

You got my word kid. I’ll be the one taking you to hell once and for all.

“Hmm, it’s quite nice huh…” I said silently.

With that said, right now, I’m inside a small bar in Sapporo. Surround me is the death bodies of virtually everyone in this bar. They’re the one leaking information regarding the organization, and I personally came all the way here to give them a one-way ticket to hell.

The cleaning team is on the way, so in the meantime, I decided to spend some times tasting the finest wines in here. As I’m enjoying all the booze this pce has to offer at the counter, the doorbell suddenly rings.

“Ah, I see what you did there, cleaning out all the trashes. How does it feel when your bde cuts through their necks like butter? Does their blood make you feel some type of way?”

“Jeez, since when did you learn how to talk like that? It’s making me uncomfortable you know?”

“Haha, but that’s the point. With this pce being dead silence for quite a while now, stirring up a bit won’t harm nobody right?”

[Mastermind] approaches me from behind with an unusual joy and a bright smile. I can even hear the sound of him slowly walking towards me, although in his defense, that’s on me.

“Alright, you got my attention. What do you want?” I asked.

“Now now, why rush? We have all the wines to drink and get drunk here; you know I have to at least taste some of it. Your tab?”

“*hah* Fine, make yourself feels like home. Whisky?”

“I’ll have some Bourbon, on the rocks please.”

I then get behind the counter and serve him what he asked for. He swirls the cup for a short while before giving it a taste. Even though I have some experience in this field, I’m not exactly in the mood of whipping it out, so there’s a chance that my rustiness might ruin the drink.

“Huh, it definitely tastes a bit off…” he whispered. “But hey, it’s still quite good. I can work with this.”

I turn to the side and let out a small sigh. Despite knowing and working with him for years now, I still can’t exactly have a read on that guy. He’s wearing two different type of masks, so even when he takes one off, you can never really see his entire face.

The worst part is, it’s never his concern, and he makes sure that it’s the case for everyone.

“You know what’ll pair very well with this?” He asked. “A good old talk with a friend. Better yet, let’s make it a meeting with all members of [Chaotic Seven].”

As I’m taking a sip from my drink, [Mastermind] hands me an envelope. I put down the cup and open it. A small piece of invitation letter can be seen inside, and after a quick look at it, I let out yet another small sigh.

“You do know there’re better ways to announce this right?” I asked.

“Well yeah, but where’s the fun in that? We don’t really have a good history with meetings, so I thought spicing things up might help.”

“If we were still in high school or college, then yeah it might. But this? This is just way too extra you know?”

“Well, for something, or should I say someone like him, special treatment is the way to go, am I right?”

“*sigh” You got me there. Can’t argue with that…”

That “someone” he referred to is none other than Yasutaira Waka, the kid who defeated me just more than a week ago. Once a small fry target, in just a few months, he has proven himself to be an annoying roadblock.

From Kira’s side switching to the Miller Mega Mall incident and most recently, our csh in Greece. If not taken him seriously enough, you’ll pay the full price. The fact that this kid is now a major problem really gets into our skins.

The upcoming meeting will discuss what to do with him alongside our move in the future. Like [Mastermind] once said, we can’t let such misstep take down the entire operation built for years. If that kid thinks he has what it takes to stop us, we’ll make him regret it.

“But seriously though...What’s with this kid anyways? He was supposed to be just a powerless weakling, yet he overcomes everything, again and again. Whoever gave birth to him must have been some of the most impressive individuals known to mankind.” he said.

“Are you suggesting that this kid’s parents is an even bigger threat than him? I thought they’re dead already.” I asked jokingly.

“Well they are, don’t get me wrong.” he responded. “But their past...it’s about as vague as how we operate things. It’s like...they just popped out of nowhere and no one would even bat an eye about it.”

  "Huh, that’s quite...interesting...”

Just when I thought it could’t get any worse, this man just casually dropped one big of a bomb, and I couldn't even get the chance to dodge it. The good news is, it’s not really something that would affect us in any harmful way, but still...I really need to keep that in mind somehow.

  “*knock knock” Pest control!”

Suddenly, I hear someone outside calling for us. As he’s knocking the door, I leave [Mastetmind] behind and hurriedly open it.

"Coming!” I answered. “How can I help you gentlemen?”

"Ah, we got a call earlier, said that they need an “Inspection”.”

“Well come on in. Makes sure that you “Take care of the pests” for us.”

“You got it maam. Boys, let’s go!”

The captain then heads into the bar with his team right behind him. They’re not pest control obviously: They’re the cleaning team I called to clean out the pce and bodies. We don’t just have eyes and ears everywhere, we also have backups as well. These guys are the best in the game, so naturally, I can trust them with cleaning all the mess.

"Ah excuse me guys, coming through. You don’t want to clean up the wrong body, do you?”

Opposed to the cleaning team, [Mastermind] gets out of his seat and heads to me. Of course, he tries his best to not disturb the scene, and he does with style and fwlessness. After that, the team finally gets their stuff out and starts doing their job.

“Well, good thing I finished up that drink.” he said. “Say, what do you think if we just take all that boozes back to the headquarters and enjoy them ourselves? That could be a great moral boost for everyone you know?”

“I mean…if you want it, you can just do it. Who’s going to stop us, the owner? He’s rotting in hell anyways, so what can he possibly do?”

“Definitely not dragging us with him, that’s for sure” he replied. “Anyways, want some cigarette? Again, it’s not like they can stop us, am I right?”

“Well, it’s rude to reject it so…yeah, I’ll take one.”

Lighting up and smoking cigarettes outside of the bar is the st thing we do. After that, we both get inside the van and slowly disappear from the country, heading to the new missions waiting ahead of us.
