Chapter 90: Superior Firepower (unfinished chapter)

Chapter 90: Superior Firepower (Unfinished Chapter)

Astral’s ship soared through space. On her ship were twelve fins or feather-like designs, six of which were emitting bright red particles while the others emit blue ones. With each fin turning to red, Astral’s ship became faster, and more powerful. More lasers came out of its pores and her main gun’s damage was even more devastating. In a busy and chaotic battlefield, the Phoenix shot out a very accurate red laser beam that looked like it could have been fired from a main battleship. The laser travelled at such high speeds towards a certain black and red box-shaped ship. This laser hit a red curtain of sorts that surrounded this ship, refracting into multiple pieces, effectively making the shot ineffective.

Clicking her tongue, Astral decided to launch another beam towards the destroyer. Again, the attack was deflected by the shields. Seeing the ineffectiveness of her armaments, she decided to get closer to the ship in order to launch a shield penetrating torpedo. Unfortunately, before Astral could get too near, a dark swirling vortex appeared and Sensenmann was swallowed by the fluctuations of energy.

"Urghh, this is never ending!" Astral complained in anger as she flew back into a safe position near the joint fleet.

"She attacks us to no avail and we attack her to no avail, a never ending battle. What a waste of ammunition and energy, such is the litany of life fighting against the inevitable essense of death," Jinko replied, as she was writing something down on a piece of paper using a brush.

"The Litany of Death, by Jinko," Abyssal said.

"I like that, good naming sense Blue Abyssal."

"Right? I thought it was pretty cool as well," Abyssal replied.

Despite the chaos that is happening on the outside where hundreds and hundreds of missiles were exploding all around them, Abyssal and Jinko were busy talking to each other, sharing in the revelries that is idle talk. As Astral predicted, the two somehow got along with each other. Their personalities matched so well with each other. It was hard to believe that the two were enemies merely a few weeks ago.

"Stop fooling around you two! Focus!" Astral reprimanded Jinko and Abyssal.

"You say that… but it's not like I could do anything about the situation…" Abyssal replied. "She just disappears every time we are on to her… isn't there anything you can do about it?

"Indeed. We will need to find a way to temporarily disable her D-drives before we could act. But to disable it, we would need to first find a way to reveal them. And if we have such a device we would have already disabled it don’t you think, little bird?” Jinko said mockingly towards Astral.

"I got a few trump cards that I could use but to reveal them now is a bit of a waste… Wait? D-drives? You never said anything about this before?" Astral asked, having heard of a word that she never heard before.

"It is what she's using to appear and disappear at will. I've heard several reports of such a device capable of transporting entire ships via a new form of F.T.L. travel, a different dimension of sorts. Though they are never used to the extent that that murderer is using them."

"Wait, another dimension?" Abyssal raised her eyebrows while Astral yelled out in anger.

"Oi, you never said anything about that in our previous meetings?!"

"Oh? Did I not? I could have sworn I did, what a blunder," Jinko sneered towards Astral.

  "Why you…"

"Jinko-senpai, it is rude to hide important information like that, you know," Hikari voiced out.

"Yeah, stuff like this could have helped us ya dunce!" Astral yelled another time.

"While I admit that doing this is a little bad of a taste from me. Still, what does knowing the name of the device change anything? We are still stuck in this eternal tug of war with no clear victor on either side?"

"..." Astral looked away, biting her lips in response. Jinko was right, just knowing isn't really enough to do something about it.

"Well, you said something about a different dimension? Is she actually traveling through another plane of existence?" Abyssal asked.

"Yes, or at least that's what I knew of the technology. The D in D-drives stands for dimensional drives. It is why I assume that she can seemingly phase through us without ramming into us. It is also why she is able to travel without triggering any of the mines in the minefield," Jinko explained.

"Hmm I see. I didn't think that blue vortex was a portal to another whole dimension though. What a damn cheat, but it's also so cool. That's so vexing!"
