162. The More the Merrier (Book Two)

By the time I got back to the conference room, I had received a lot of information.

Scalera delivered her report on the interrogation and answered a few questions for, while the members of the Ash Guard and the boys helped me confirm some of those questions.

First of all, the alert that popped up from the System.

That was significant. The sacrifice of Earth’s Core? That wasn’t a simple matter at all, and it was something I definitely need more information on.

Scalera was of course quick to provide it.

She mentioned it’s something she has never experienced firsthand, but it isn’t completely uncommon in the Multiverse for someone or a faction to do something like this.

And the reasoning behind it can be a multitude of things. In fact there were so many potential reasons why this could be done that it didn’t even make sense for Scalera to list even one of them.

All that matters is the fact that it is likely the Vamps that initiated this whole thing, and if I wanted to not only stay alive, but also win this war, then stopping them from sacrificing the Core is the best bet.

Scalera also informed me that she did not get the same alert from the System I did. Neither Frian nor Lirian received the alert either. But all members of the Ash Guard did.

It was interesting. If only members of Earth received the alert, then did that mean that people like Scalera and Greja would be fine if the Core was successfully sacrificed? Would be just teleported off Planet?

Scalera didn’t have a concrete answer for me regarding that but she mentioned that it seemed unlikely that they would be unaffected from a Planet’s Core being sacrificed. Which makes a lot of sense.

  Anyway, the interrogation.

Instead of speaking the report aloud, she gave me the details mentally. Something I almost forgot Nascent Soul Cultivators can do.

To summarize, I was right to think the attacks we faced thus far could be counted as part of the real war. We have no idea how many Vamps actually made landfall on the Planet but it wasn’t a small amount, it’s just that what we faced were the fringes of that force.

The man attack party went straight to the location in which they would conduct the sacrifice. Everyone else, as in the Vamps we faced here in Black Cove City and in the New Earth Union, were just sent to kill as many as they could.

The more sentient blood spilled, the better their sacrifice would be, or so said the Vamp that got interrogated.

If its words were to be trusted, then killing all the Vamps we came across might actually be benefiting the Vamps in their Core Sacrifice.

This text was taken from Royal Road. Help the author by reading the original version there.

It was a lot to consider all at once, but at least the System alert was concrete proof that the Vamps had gathered to do something, and it would now be out job to go find that location and ensure we stopped it in time, and Vamps paid an equivalent price in blood.

  Very simple stuff.

Yet simple in practice doesn’t obviously mean it would be simple in reality.

And it would be far from it.

We didn’t know where the base of the Vamps were located and considered we likely would only have a litter over 10,000 total fighters, while the Vamps would probably have millions more guarding their base, the odds were not in our favor by any means, yet we had no choice but to make it happen.

Now I was currently in the conference room and miss Seiha was seated across from me. She did not look very happy. Though I can’t say that I blame her.

“You knew didn’t you. I spotted more than a few thousand Infernals in your City. You knew that a war was coming, you knew that we’d be attacked and yet you did not tell us. Why is that City Lord Raizen. Why did you keep this information to yourself?”

Hm, I understand her point, and I suppose I should’ve seen something like this coming. Well, I’ve never been one for beating around the bush so I’ll tell it like it is.

“Yes I did know. And the answer is simple, we couldn’t risk an information leak.”

“An information leak? Who do you think we are?”

“How did the factions of this Planet find out I was here?”

Her eyes narrowed at me dangerously after that but she said nothing.

I would’ve been find with silence usually but the circumstances are different.

“We don’t have time to argue. The Vhampryls are trying to sacrifice the Core of the Planet. And as you can see by the veil placed above us, it is unlikely that any of us can leave. Though I never planned on leaving in the first place.

“The fact is, we’re going to find them and we will stop them and then remove them. Will you help or not?”

She just maintained eye contact with me for a few minutes before finally opening her mouth to speak.

“It is not as if I have a choice. We will provide assistance. Now if you’ll excuse me.”

And with that she calmly walked through the conference room doors. Scalera was waiting outside and by the look that she gave Seiha and the brief pause in Seiha’s steps that followed, I’m quite positive that Scalera said something to her mentally.

  Interesting.

After that meeting, I then met with Jrino who promptly agreed to follow us on our journey to wherever the location of the Vamps base was. Greja would remain with the people at the Frost Dungeon.

Which wasn’t a bad thing, we would be leaving with most of our forces, but that didn’t mean leaving these locations entirely undefended.

Next came a meeting with City Lord Johnson.

“We lost quite a few people to that attack. Even though Mr. Richard gave us ample warning, and we did our very best to prepare as much as possible, we still couldn’t handle it. I still don’t the final death toll, but it’s at least in the thousands.

“Without your help I’m not sure how many more would have died or if we’d have even be able to survive at all.

  “So, thank you once again.”

“Don’t worry about it. I’m sorry we couldn’t get there sooner. We’re allies City Lord Johnson, so it’s only right that we help each other out in times of need. Especially when this is an attack on all of Earth. We’ll defend it.”

“It’s good to hear you say that…Now I’m told that you will be traveling to find the reason behind that alert we all received?”

  “Yes, that is the case.”

“Then some of us will be coming.”

“City Lord Johnson. The chance of death on this mission will be very high. You do not have to come.”

“With all due respect young man. I’ve been fighting wars far longer than you have. The details might have changed a bit, but war is war. This is my Planet too, and I will be fighting in her defense.”

Well there wasn’t much I could say to that argument, the more the merrier I guess.
