Chapter 19, "Recognition"

“I guess? It's kinda inching towards the more… safer side.”

“Like, what's wrong with five? Why four?”

  Benny's expression was perplexed.

“Did you forget that we applied for the rank-up because we wanted to rank up?”

  Amabel poked Benny's chest roughly.

“Like I said, I want to one-up the other two teams!”

  Benny argued.

“What do you mean… you think the other teams would pick a Stannum quest that's five natum maws?”

She inhaled deeply, her hand on the bridge of her nose.

“The point—of today—is to get a HIGHER rank!”

“You can have your glory after this mission!”

“Plus, we are wasting not only our time—but Sir Pax's time!”

  Amabel was irritated.

  Her tone was heavy.

  …

  “… I guess so…”

  Benny exhaled lightly, calming down.

“Sorry, let's just go on with it.”

We walked to Ellis and placed the quest on the counter.

“Alright! Miss Receptionist! We take this one!”

Benny grinned lightly, his eyes full of determination.

“You both had a really long argument. The other teams already confirmed their quests~”

She clicked her tongue cheekily before eyeing me.

She probably thought I was annoyed at the waste of time.

  …

  Maybe I was—just a tiny bit.

  —

  Our quest was confirmed.

Four Natum Maws, east of the city.

  Reward: four silver coins.

  And of course, Stannum Rank.

  …

“Sorry about earlier. I guess I just got a little impatient…”

“I just wanna be someone, you know?”

Benny stated, his tone mellow and low.

  “Benny, are you that desperate?”

I told him as we continued walking to the location.

“I mean, yeah? Who wouldn't be? Having your name in the books and all.”

Benny told me as he pulled out a small piece of bread from his food pouch and began taking a small bite.

“So, you don't hunt Maws for the sake of it?”

  I asked him.

  “That too, of course!”

“I want to get rid of Maws, and I feel like it would be nice for a little recognition as well.”

  …

  I suppose that's fine.
