Gun had tears in his eyes as Moon walked behind him, pushing him in a wheelchair.
He had his hands clenched under the bnket, squeezing through the pain as they neared the morgue.
Moon stopped outside as they approached the morgue. The officer working on Gun’s case was staring at them, surprised, and it only upset Gun further.
He rolled the wheelchair over and made eye contact with Troy and saw that he was holding himself together with his everything.
Gun looked at the officer investigating his case and smiled. “It’s good to see you again.”
“Mr Laedeke, what are you doing here?” He asked.
Gun sighed, he looked at Troy asking, “Didn’t you tell him?”
He shook his head. “I never got the chance to.”
Gun nodded his head. He knew better than to speak in this case. He knew many secrets, and who knows what the story was this time?
Troy looked at the man saying, “Mr Laedeke is well, was in a retionship with my boss.”
The officer was surprised, but then frowned. “Then could it be that Mr Laedeke was targeted by a rival?”
Troy shrugged. “We’ll leave that up to the police to investigate.”
He looked at Gun and asked, “Are you sure you’re ready?”
Gun shook his head. “I need to see him for myself. I just can’t believe it.”
Troy sighed and nodded. He looked at Moon, saying, “I’ll take it from here.”
Moon moved away and opened the door. Troy pushed him into the morgue and looked back at Moon, who closed the door.
Troy looked at the coroner inside and asked, “Can you please show us Kai Diloknawarit’s body?”
He nodded his head and walked up to the fourth door and opened it, pulling out the bed with a body on it. He took the sheet off, then walked away back to his desk.
Gun looked back at Troy with tears in his eyes. From where he was sitting, he could tell that it was Kai’s side profile. A scene he was familiar with so much because he often stared at him for hours while he worked or after sex.
He looked back and slowly stood up, holding his stomach. That was in excruciating pain.
He walked up to the body, and his heart shuddered. He covered his mouth as he stared at the body that was lifeless and pale.
Troy stopped beside him, saying, “It took them so long to find his body under the helicopter. Most of the bones in his body his crushed. He died on impact, according to the coroner.”
Gun let his cry escape and shook his head in disbelief. Suddenly, all the pain he was experiencing moved to his heart that broke. Moving his trembling hands over to Kai’s face, he cupped it. His body was cold, the warmth that he remembered was long gone.
Why does it have to be like this?
I’ve forgiven you for lying to me, King. Why did you die?
“Is this my punishment?” Gun asked as he id his head on his chest.
Troy looked at him, then looked over at the coroner, asking, “Can you give us some time alone with the body?”
He nodded and left.
Looking at Gun, he said, “King was on his way to M-Town. We got a lead on guys who shot you. He wanted to go there himself. I told him to wait the storm out, but he wasn’t willing to. He couldn’t accept what happened to you because of him.”
“But I never told him to go after them,” Gun whispered as he stared at King.
Troy nodded his head sadly. “I told him to come visit you.”
Gun chuckled. “But his ego went and got him killed. What am I going to do without him, Troy? The only reason why I broke up with him was because things were getting too much for me. I needed a break and I know he needed it too, but then I told myself that I just needed to keep on going because I love him and then? I find out he has a whole family. Not even the internet knows about this.”
He turned to him, asking, “And his family? Do they know about this?”
He nodded his head, “They do, but King has moved them out of the country. We knew that something was happening in the shadows and didn’t expect that it would end up affecting you.”
“So he knew?” Gun asked, surprised.
Troy nodded his head. “You two had gone public. Everyone knew about you that needed to know. King wasn’t single anymore, and you became a target. Now with him dead, a shift will happen underground. A war might even break out.”
“A war?” Gun asked.
Troy nodded, staring at him intently as a tear fell from his eyes. He said, “With King dead, there’s no more a ruler of the night. SOG kept things at bay, but we’ve got leaders coming in as we speak ready to take over SOG. Gun, there’s only so much that I can do and if someone starts a coup, they’ll know about his children and who knows what could happen?”
Gun picked up on the panic in his voice, then looked back down at the body and shook his head, “I didn’t come here for that.”
After Troy left him alone with the body, Gun raised his hand and spped Kai across the face. “You motherfucker. Everything has to go your way, doesn’t it? It’s always something with you!”
Wiping his tears away, he looked at him asking, “How can you do this to me, Kai? You die and leave me with all of this to deal with. Do I look like I can handle all of this? Who am I going to have sex with now? Who am I going to talk to? Who’s going to tell me to stop spending your money? Who’s going to smile at me and look at me the way you do? Who am I going to love?”
The pain in his stomach throbbed, making him lean over. Giving in, he pced his head on King’s chest asking, “Are you happy now? You made me love you miserably and take a bullet for you, but you’re gone. How am I going to sleep tonight?”
The room went silent, but not for long. Gun let his tears roll out as he cried.
Troy opened the door after fifteen minutes and found Gun sitting back in the wheelchair, staring at the body. His eyes were bloodshot and he should be sad, but he could tell that Gun was angry. “Are you ready to go?”
Gun nodded his head. “Can you get me pictures of his children? I’d like to meet them properly and his sister, too.”
“The doctor hasn’t cleared you to leave the hospital yet,” he said.
Gun rubbed his stomach. The pain was in both his chest and stomach. His doctor also changed after the second surgery. Sighing, he nodded his head. “I know. I didn’t ask to leave.”
