They Attack at Night: Chapter 1

Message between Dogma and Calvary recovered.

  Dialogue restored…

  Dogma:

Report Sent - An unidentified creature is spotted in the Midwest, Western Australia, Australia. Numerous dismembered found, local missing reports correlate with the deaths of suspected monster attacks.

  Calvary:

Report Received - State the nature of these attacks.

  Dogma:

Acknowledged - Victims are all human, no other flora or fauna are harmed by the creature. Attacks are often near bodies of water, though still unclear if the creature is amphibious, territorial, or a spirit. Autopsies confirmed the creature to have claws that are 25cm in length and 20cm in width. Confirmed that the creature has venom, though tests are inconclusive on its potency and side effects. Venom is believed to be derived from claws, though unclear if it has venom in fangs. Venom’s effectiveness has “decayed” after hours of being exposed to air, being replaced with the chemical compound found in citrus fruit. The current theory of venom decay is that venom is magical by nature, the supporting theory is that the creature is a spirit instead of a physical entity. The creature is believed to be large, no bigger than a standard car.

  Calvary:

Understood - Are attacks becoming more frequent?

  Dogma:

Confirmed - Attacks have increased by 120% from December 2016 to February 2017. No evidence suggests that there is more than one monster in the area.

  Calvary:

Understood - Is there any more data relating to the creature?

  Dogma:

Negative - Data is incomplete, though I have a theory on what the creature may be. Permission to share to justify the authorisation of Butterfly Legion.

  Calvary:

Permission Granted - State your theory.

  Dogma:

Theory - Attack patterns closely resemble that of a bunyip. It will also explain venom decay as the creature has this unusual trait. Theory can be supported by attacks being close to bodies of water.

  Calvary:

Enjoying the story? Show your support by reading it on the official site.

Acknowledged - Theory is sound, though highly implausible. Bunyip’s were only located in the south-eastern regions of Australia. The possibility of it moving to an arid location shouldn’t be feasible given the physiology of the creature, even less likely as the creature is deemed extinct on the 8th of Sep, 1859.

  Calvary:

Authorisation Denied - Due to inadequate data, Butterfly Legion will not be authorised to take part in operations in the area.

  Dogma:

Understood - Will still require teams to take on the threat.

  Calvary:

Acknowledged - Resources are stretched thin containing the damages caused by The Cascade. Report indicates that attacks happened in isolated areas outside of populated centres. Threat is determined to not be significant enough to justify further resources at this time.

  Dogma:

Negative - While the threat has been identified attacking outside of populated centres. It won’t be like that forever. Current information indicates that it is located in the abandoned settlement of Day Dawn. There is a high likelihood that the town of Cue will be attacked soon due to its proximity.

  Calvary:

Understood - Have you taken any actions to evacuate the town?

  Dogma:

Affirmative - Provided cover-up stories, resources, rewards, and benefits to justify the temporary departure from town. Majority have left, though some do remain. Current expected population is 20+ civilians.

  Calvary:

Understood - Situation has called for a necessary response.

  Calvary:

Authorisation Granted - Disposal Unit (Unit 511) will commence investigation on the 5th of Mar.

  Dogma:

Understood - Will keep the situation updated about the threat once identified.

  Calvary:

Acknowledged - Butterfly Legion (Unit 247) will be on standby if the threat has been identified and has not been terminated.

  Calvary:

Closing Log - Signing off, Keepers of the Dark.
