Chapter 4.5 – Earth

The house in front of us housed an evil that needed to be purged from this world. A being that could not be trusted. A being with a kid that was just as evil. They didn’t look the part but their words and magic twisted the mind. Making one believe what they wanted you to believe. In an effort to be kind, we had let the two live. At least until one or the other slipped up. But no more.

They were twisting my Christian’s mind. Taking him from me. Pitting him against us. This left us no choice but to do the job that we were tasked with. The job that our family line was always tasked with. He would see us kill them. He would hate us, resent us, maybe even attack us. We could handle him. After we got him away from them we could start to teach him about the reason the family existed. The reason that we practiced archaic forms of combat. Teach him the family magic. Only then could he understand what it meant to be a Pendragon.

I walked up the steps of the house with my husband. The pce housed an evil. An evil that we rang the doorbell for. Bringing it to us. “I got it,” a voice called through the house as someone approached the door. It opened to reveal Marcy. “Hi, Mr and Mrs Pendragon. What can I do for you this night?”

Only as I lifted my sword to stab her did she notice that we were armed. My sword bzed to life as I pushed holy mana into it. Fmes of pure white burst forth as I stabbed at her heart. Her body twisted as she flung a wave of pure mana at us. The mana picked us up, flinging us off the porch and across the wn. My sword, however, did not stop. It cut through the mana and impacted the things left breast.

The wound was too high and to the left to be immediately fatal, but no one would be able to pull that sword out. The holy fmes would slowly burn away at her body until she died. We both stood up. Starting to head back toward the house to finish the job when the creature screamed.

From where I was standing I could see the scales of her true form peaking out as she y on the ground. Before we could get any closer, we were once again tossed back as a wave of mana rolled out of our target. The air became frozen as the mana seemed to solidify around the house, blocking us from seeing what was going on inside.

With a sharp, solid cracking sound, the space around the house warped. The sight of which had me on my hands and knees as I tried to not toss the contents of my stomach. When I was finally able to look up again, the house was gone. Repced by a copse of trees the likes of which this world had never seen. Likely trees that were from wherever the thing had retreated to.

“We need to call the rest of the family,” Nichos said as he sheathed his sword. “They need to know that the dragons have our son.”

“They will want to know why we let them get so close,” I responded as he helped me stand.

“They will understand why. It isn’t often that you have a chance to empower your child with the blood of two powerful dragons.” He looked me over as he asked, “Where did your sword go?”

“It's still in the creature. She will die soon. Just wish it didn’t cost me that sword. I liked that one.”

“Wasn’t that the sword your great grandfather’s first sword?”

“Unfortunately. I just haven’t had the time to go get a new one made after the st one broke. Anyway, you want to call the European heads while I handle the Asian ones?”

“And who will call the rest?”

“I was hoping that you could convince your brother to do that.”

“He would ugh if he heard you saying that. Didn’t you once say that you would never ask that crazy idiot for help?” Nichos and I started to walk back toward our house. He started to pull out his phone and text someone, likely his brother, as we walked.

“That’s why I wanted you to ask. You do know we will have to ask for one of the dimensional bdes as well. Those trees were not from our world. Likely not from our dimension.”

“Well, that’s going to piss someone off. You do know the family only has two of those left. I heard that they had pns for both. Something about a raid into the heart of the dragon homeworld.”

“They think that a raid on Avalon is a good idea? Maybe if all the families were at their strongest. As it is none of the families can hold a candle to the power of previous generations. There just isn’t enough mana to empower any of our kids, let alone dragon blood.”

“I didn’t say it was smart or that I agreed. Just saying what the council was talking about.” He lifted his phone to his ear as he made a call. "Bonjour, puis-je parler à M. Jacques. C'est une affaire urgente."

I ignored the rest of his conversation as I pulled my phone out to call the first Asian family. It was going to be a long night. If we were lucky and everything went our way, we would be able to chase after Christian in a month. I just hoped that time wasn’t speeding ahead for him or that one month could end up with him too twisted to be saved. If that became the case it was up to both of us to either kill him or turn him over to the council for judgment.
