Chapter 5

Barely ten minutes had passed since the last time the servant came and demanded they stop for the lord to walk in the sunlight. T’Potsa could already hear the footsteps of the servant, come to convey words of the lord’s foul mood once again. This would be the fourth time in the last hour that the lord sent word that they should stop, so he could stretch his legs. Which T’Potsa thought was ridiculous as the Lord’s personal section of the transport had 3 rooms, one being a private bath with enough space to swim leisurely. He was sure that the Lord simply was getting motion sick, he certainly seemed the type with a weak constitution. The man was rather thin in the arms and legs, but very round in the mid-section.

T’Potsa had driven for many nobles, most often the third or fourth sons who spend the money on the expensive things but have not an ounce of ability in themselves. The Lord was probably still in his low teens as far as levels go, even though he obviously was well into his thirties. Inwardly he groaned as the footsteps neared the driver’s box.

The door to the box opened and the servant entered, with a false sense of superiority that only those with power borrowed from someone else’s name. The man stomped his way into the room, the indignation and anger rolling off of him as if he was the one personally being offended by the act.

“Mister T’Potsa, his Lordship demands that we stop this transport immediately.” The servant said in a reproaching voice. Even before T’Potsa could respond, the servant continued, “We are well aware of the boundaries of the dungeon, and we should have passed through long ago. You are to stop this transport immediately!” His voice cracked slightly toward the end of his demand.

Having bought as much time as he knew he could manage, and not wanting to further anger his client any more T’Potsa let out a sigh and said, “I will find a spot for us to stop so the lord can stretch his legs. Please allow me time to find a good spot.” Worry flickered across T’Potsa’s face, he knew that his stronger core enhancement abilities only affected them while they were moving, which is why he did not want to stop in the dungeon field, once they stopped there was a much stronger possibility that the dungeon and its monsters would be able to sense the core's location.

Hearing this, the servant’s face reddened, and he began to yell, “No you will not, you will stop here, and we will prepare the area for the young lords outing, I trust that you are capable of actually stopping this transport? Or is it too difficult for one of your advanced age to understand that concept?”

T’Potsa was blindsided by the man's outrage, but then finally understood the situation. The lord was such an idiot that he believed that he was actually safe outside the city wall with such a small escort. The man in front of him right now, was either a complete imbecile as well, or has his head so far up the lord’s back side that he honestly believed whatever he was told. That uneasy feeling that had started to build in his stomach ballooned and he felt as if he was dunked into the freezing waters of the Rord itself. The hairs on his arms stood on end, this would not go well.

As if realizing that T’Potsa was caught off guard and not prepared to respond yet, the servant pointed to an area on the side of the road ahead, "There, that location will make for a splendid spot to let the lord out and about.”

T’Potsa grimaced as he looked at where the man was pointing ahead, he had chosen a poor area. With only slightly more open space than the transport itself would occupy. It would be difficult to spot anything trying to sneak up on them.

Holding the frown on his face, T’Potsa turned to ask the servant to let him choose a better location but the obstinate fellow just nodded to himself and confidently said, “Yes that will do nicely. The trees should help us hide quite nicely so the monsters won’t notice us. I shall tell the young master that we will be stopping shortly.” And with that he turned and walked out of the room, door slamming behind him as he left.

He pulled out the sending stone again, urgent notice sent to Narus, they would need to plan for the lord’s and the servants' foolish behavior. He began to slow the transport; it would only be a few minutes before they reached what might become their graves.

Narus entered the driver’s box right as the transport began to move into the spot pointed out by the lord’s servant. “Did you find a good location?”, the escort captain asked, hope evident in his voice.

T’Potsa could only shake his head before motioning to the location they were putting into. “No, I was told that this would be our location for the lord to stretch his legs.” He tried to hide the worry that had begun to sharply take hold of him. “I have the feeling that things will end badly my friend.” T’potsa said, his face stonelike as he took his hand off of the transport’s control orb. The large Ekritan man just nodded, a grimace pulling at his face.
